Passizle
Im not sure if this deserves its own thread, but I found the thought interesting. Seeing that Davis was great when he was with us and he was released by The Panthers. Do you think it would be a good idea to bring him back here for short yardage/goal line situations? I know our RB core is very talented, but I do not think any RB we have has the size or power that Davis did. He has not been the same since his injury in 04. You see his stats drop off dramatically after the injury, but look at the year we first released him. He was a monster of a back for Carolina rushing for 1444 and he helped them get to the SB in 03. I personally love the guy. He is a "Gibbs guy" and I would love to see him retire as a Redskin. Personally I dont know why we ever let him go. (DAMn SPURRIER!!!) What do you guys think? dreamingwolf
no I think he should probably retire, he is too injury prone and his age isnt helping that.

But he is now old, and injury prone, plus we don't have a need for any back ups. I think LB and the other young backups will do just fine. Thanks but no thanks. artmonkforHOF
I love the guy, but there is no room on thsi team for another running back. there isnt even enough room now with Portis, Betts, Rock, Nemo, and Lumsden back there.
bccdc
Huge fan of SD as well, but I personally don't think he would be worth a roster spot just for short yardage situations...and at what cost? Certainly not at the cost Betts, or of special team player like Rock Cartwright, Broughton or hopefully Manuel White.
Coooleeey
We are already stacked. I was a big fan when he was with us and I actually rooted for him his first year in Carolina cause I was pissed Squirtier let him go.
BURGUNDYnGOLD123
And besides portis wouldnt like to have a short yardage / goal line specialist. He wants the tds.
Chachie
I am aware that Stephen is getting on in years and is injury prone, but if he'd take the league minimum I'd cut Lumsden for him in a second. He could be GREAT insurance against a Portis injury and I truly don't see Ladell as a playoff RB. Our window of opportunity for greatness under Gibbs is not a big one. I don't think it'll happen, mind you- but I'd pick up Stephen Davis. Remember- Gerald Riggs was brought in toward the end of his career. We ended up needing him and he ended up enjoying a "2nd career" here. Won't happen, but I'd do it for the right price.
Larry
Y'know, I seem to remember reading, once or twice, that Rock Cartwright, for his career, is: 5 of 5 on fourth and short 13 of 16 on third and short (two yards or less) Something like 1 of 4 on x and goal (any yardage). Passizle
Well, I was not thinking that he would replace any player we have. It was more of a nostalgic thing. One more year with the Skins before retirement (If he even wants to retire that is. I am just speculating) IMHO, if Portis were to go down from an injury (God forbid), I am not sold on Betts or Rock. I have seen to many dropped passes/fumbles and blocking mistakes from them in the past few years. Again, IMO I think the only time they have showed flashes of talent was late last season. If Davis did not have that bum knee, then I think this would be a no brainer. Well... that is dependant on what he was asking. Again, dont take the thought too seriously. This is just football fantasy and something I would consider if I were in a position of authority.
bigyim
...If he were willing to do special teams, maybe. With the bad knee, though, he probably wouldn't cut it. Nice nostalgic idea, but I don't think Davis plays for any significant amount of time in the NFL again.

True, but remember both Betts and Rock are fumble queens. I cringe (spelling) every time they touch the ball.
ConcordNCSkinsFan
I've had my eye on Davis living down here in Carolina the last few years. He just doesn't have any burst at all anymore because his knees are absolutely finished as far as Football goes. I loved him when he was a Skin also but the Redskins would be making the same mistake they made with Michael Barrow to get rid of a promising young player to grab a vet who's NFL days are over. red zone
Stephen Davis is not at all a "Gibbs Guy." He fumbles too much and is injury proned. He just withers the brighter the lights get and the higher the stakes. :2cents:
ChiefPowhatan17
Davis is done, his knees would not hold up for another season. He should be retired and it's sad to say, but probable for his own health walk away from the game. Plus we have so many good young runners as it is.:helmet:
tizzod
Well, I was not thinking that he would replace any player we have. It was more of a nostalgic thing. Sadly, I think he's pretty much done. If you want nostalgia, sign him on the day he retires so he can retire a Skin. That's about as far as I would take it.

carlsbadd
True, but remember both Betts and Rock are fumble queens. I cringe (spelling) every time they touch the ball. So is Davis. Davis was great when he was here and helped Carolina get to the big dance but his best football is behind him. We are loaded with talent and him coming here makes no sense at this point.
