Font: * * * * LAS VEGAS (CP) - A UFC card planned for April in Montreal has been called off, according to UFC president Dana White.

White had told reporters earlier this month in San Diego that the mixed martial arts circuit would make its Canadian debut at the Bell Center on April 7 with Montreal native and newly crowned welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre taking on former title-holder Matt Hughes in a 170-pound rubber match.

On Thursday, White said the Montreal card was off.

"Fell apart, unfortunately," White said. "There were a lot of different things that made that fight fall apart.

I enjoyed last nights UFC event, the Liddell victory wasn't surprising but it was good, Tito looked scared after round 1. Forrest needs to pick up his game a little bit, he got caught with a good punch then got pounded on his back like a turtle, hes got too much heart not to be back. Looking foward to the debuts of rampage and cro cop, gonna be a good year for UFC.

Don't see anybody ever really crushing Chuck. There was no way Tito or anyone else for that matter can beat Chuck without taking him to the ground. That's your only chance. The punch that cut Tito looked like it didn't even have anything on it yet it cut him. His power if very deceiving and it's hard to defend against it. A glancing blow from Chuck is like taking power shots from some of the other fighters.

Well Rampage dominated Chuck on both standing up and the ground in their first fight. Most of the 1st round was on the feet and by the 2nd Chuck gassed and his corner through the towel. I wish thats the Rampage shows up during the rematch.

Rampage is a very technically sound boxer, and he is one of the quickest and hardest strikers in LHW. That matchup would probably favor Rampage. Rampage has few weaknesses, one being that he tires easily. Sakuraba withstood the storm of the first 8 minutes and put him in an armbar. Rampage can be compared to Mike Tyson. They both come out with incredible fury, but their game dwindles if you let them gas.

Rampage likes to pick people up and slam them repeatedly when he's in full guard. This would win him any street fight on pavement, but it certainly has to tire him out to do a full set of what are essentially clean & jerks during a fight. I'm definitley looking forward to Liddell vs. Rampage II.

Chuck is a different fighter and much improved and will win the rematch..

I just wish they would make Rampage have a tougher fight before they throw him in thier with Chuck.. Why not give 1 of the contenders a shot at Rampage for the right to fight Chuck it seems like they don't wanna take no chances so they can hype the hell outta the rematch..

I was fortunate enough to watch the fights live. Not a bad card, not a great card. Aside from the Forrest/Jardine fight, no major upsets. AA looked great, as well as Chuck of course. Felt bad for Leben, but let's be honest, he's simply a guy with a hell of a chin and a nice punch. Actually saw him at the Hard Rock Casino the following night. Didn't seem like anyone gave a crap who he was. He even WALKED UP TO my brother and a friend and started saying how he wasn't feeling too bad and that he'd be back.

They didn't really announce Cro Cop. It was weird. The only thing that happened was a message over the jumbotrons saying that he would be fighting in the UFC. No real talking, pictures, music, etc. Just an announcement that he'd be coming. Pretty lame.

HBO is finally officially on board.

http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=6501

HBO will televise three Ultimate Fighting Championship cards in 2007 and holds an option for three more broadcasts, respected boxing scribe Thomas Hauser reported Monday. According to the report on SecondsOut.com, HBO's UFC cards will air at midnight on to-be-determined dates.

MMA on MSNBC tonight

Urijah Faber, World Extreme Cagefighting Featherweight Champion, and fighter Enoch Wilson are featured in a new documentary series on MSNBC tonight. “Warrior Nation,” which airs the first of four original episodes tonight at 10 p.m. Eastern Time, takes viewers inside the world of mixed martial arts by presenting an in depth look at the lives of various fighters in the sport.

The episode airing tonight provides a stark contrast in the lives of professional fighters. Faber, who defends his WEC title on January 20th in Las Vegas, is a college graduate and entrepreneur that has never really had a 9 to 5 job and makes his primary living from fighting. On the flip side, Wilson is a high school dropout (although he did attain his GED later that same year) and single father who works a full-time job, in addition to his training and struggles to make a career out of mixed martial arts.

“Warrior Nation” does a good job of presenting the fighters and the sport without the usual narrative spin that most mainstream outlets tend to put on mixed martial arts. Following a brief introduction, the primary content of the show is the fighters being viewed in various aspects of their lives, from family to fighting to everyday living, with the fighters’ own narrative leading the way".... click for rest

Props. I just put a remind me on my box for that.

And I thought Thiago Alves was going to good up and comer. Only for him to test positive for banned substance.

Me too. Alves showed a lot of promise. He is really young and can bounce back though. Especialy if his suspension is only in Nevada. UFC will be running more and more shows outside of Nevada, so he can still fight for them.

True, the UFC will be having more fights outside of Vegas, but they are trying to gain legitimacy among the average sports/boxing fan. In order to do that, they can't slap wrists over "banned substances".

Apparently Couture is coming out of retirement to fight Big Tim (RUMOR). I have a sneaking suspicion this could be another Sylvia victory by snoozefest.

http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=3251&zoneid=2

I could see that happening too, but I think Coutre will win this one. I think he is too smart a fighter to do this if he doesn't really think he can dominate him. He knows who he can beat, and who he can't.

I just can't wait for Cro Cop to knock Sylvia's block off.

Ultimate Fight Night!

The Hermes fight was pretty darn good, but this Herring fight is just pathetic. He should not get another shot in the UFC. He's just pathetic! I've never seen anyone with NO takedown defense, and is mounted at will. I cannot stress the word enough; P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C!!!!!!!!!!

Herring was ass. O'Brien wasn't that much better. He did nothing when he got in a dominant position. No GnP, no submission attempts. Herring gave up his back so many times and he did nothing with it.

O'Brien is a perfect example of why UFC should steal Pride's yellow card rule.

Franca rules. i think he'll beat Sherk.

How about Evans Cro-Copping Salmon? That was sick.

Here is a good article on UFC going mainstream:

http://sports.bostonherald.com/ufc/view.bg?articleid=179549

Best part of article:

“Over the next couple of months, you’re going to see us starting to grab up everybody,” White said. “We’re aggressive anyway. But as this thing becomes more successful, we want the power and leverage to take over different parts of the world.”

Imagine getting Shogun, Big Nog, Arona, and/or others in the UFC? It would suck for Pride, but what matches do those guys have left over there? Besides, Pride is really dropping the ball lately with their match-making. What does Barnett have to do to get a shot at Fedor?

Not that the UFC is always great. Hughes-Lytle is a complete joke with all the welter weights they have.
