White had told reporters earlier this month in San Diego that the mixed martial arts circuit would make its Canadian debut at the Bell Center on April 7 with Montreal native and newly crowned welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre taking on former title-holder Matt Hughes in a 170-pound rubber match. SkinsOrlando Posted December 31, 2006 Share Posted December 31, 2006 I enjoyed last nights UFC event, the Liddell victory wasn't surprising but it was good, Tito looked scared after round 1. Forrest needs to pick up his game a little bit, he got caught with a good punch then got pounded on his back like a turtle, hes got too much heart not to be back. There was no way Tito or anyone else for that matter can beat Chuck without taking him to the ground. That's your only chance. The punch that cut Tito looked like it didn't even have anything on it yet it cut him. His power if very deceiving and it's hard to defend against it. Rampage is a very technically sound boxer, and he is one of the quickest and hardest strikers in LHW. That matchup would probably favor Rampage. Rampage has few weaknesses, one being that he tires easily. Sakuraba withstood the storm of the first 8 minutes and put him in an armbar. Rampage can be compared to Mike Tyson. They both come out with incredible fury, but their game dwindles if you let them gas. Rampage likes to pick people up and slam them repeatedly when he's in full guard. This would win him any street fight on pavement, but it certainly has to tire him out to do a full set of what are essentially clean & jerks during a fight. I just wish they would make Rampage have a tougher fight before they throw him in thier with Chuck.. Why not give 1 of the contenders a shot at Rampage for the right to fight Chuck it seems like they don't wanna take no chances so they can hype the hell outta the rematch.. herrmag Posted January 4, 2007 Share Posted January 4, 2007 I was fortunate enough to watch the fights live. Not a bad card, not a great card. Aside from the Forrest/Jardine fight, no major upsets. AA looked great, as well as Chuck of course. Felt bad for Leben, but let's be honest, he's simply a guy with a hell of a chin and a nice punch. Actually saw him at the Hard Rock Casino the following night. Didn't seem like anyone gave a crap who he was. He even WALKED UP TO my brother and a friend and started saying how he wasn't feeling too bad and that he'd be back. They didn't really announce Cro Cop. It was weird. The only thing that happened was a message over the jumbotrons saying that he would be fighting in the UFC. No real talking, pictures, music, etc. Just an announcement that he'd be coming. Only for him to test positive for banned substance. Me too. Alves showed a lot of promise. He is really young and can bounce back though. Especialy if his suspension is only in Nevada. True, the UFC will be having more fights outside of Vegas, but they are trying to gain legitimacy among the average sports/boxing fan. Not being able to kick a downed opponent benefits wrestlers. Even Herring had a chance to throw knees @ O'Brain and maybe end the fight. Barnett could have fought Fedor on NYE but he turned it down.
