skins4eva
You are EXACTLY right. The controversy is between Campbell and Brunell. In the seven or 8 seasons Todd played a total of 12 games for the Chiefs. That's right, out of a possible 128 games, he played in 12. So obviously we did not get him to really get any real pt. Just to be a teacher. Gibbs must be looking at playing Campbell sometime this season. Brunell is good, be wore out by the end of the season. This might be our most important pick up to date in some ways. Now we have a QB on the roster who can discuss the details of Saunders system with Campbell and Brunell. I think this is a great move, and I cannot wait to see our offense in 2006. My only hope is that we don't try to do too much too soon.

hitmandm
I wonder what took so long to get Collins in? Maybe we will see the Ramsey trade happening soon, sometime today. Bargaining power. If we had Collins, it reduces our barganing power with the Jets.

Rypien11
Well this guy will be a good teacher for Campbell, that's about it. What is he going to teach? How to hold the clipboard. How to keep a bench seat warm? Its all about how you style the headset? I can almost remotely see a case since he has been in the system but watching from the sidelines and running it is two different things. To further that note if he was "smart" with the offense why was he the backup. Right now Cambell is a much better QB the Collins will ever hope to be. Campbell should be the starter, not broke back Brunnell but that is for another thread.

Blade
www.redskins.com PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release March 14, 2006 WASHINGTON REDSKINS SIGN QB TODD COLLINS ASHBURN, VA – The Washington Redskins announced today they have signed quarterback Todd Collins. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Collins is an experienced and skilled veteran that will provide depth to the Redskins quarterback position. He has also worked with Associate Head Coach Al Saunders extensively in Kansas City. Collins, 6-4, 228 lbs., originally entered the League as a second round draft choice (45th overall) of the Buffalo Bills in the 1995 NFL Draft. He spent three seasons with the Bills before joining the Chiefs in 1998. During his career, he has appeared in 40 games with 17 starts and completed 302 of 546 passes for 3,447 yards, 17 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. A former Michigan Wolverine, Collins finished his college career with the best career (64.3%) and single-season (65.3% in 1993) completion percentage in school history. He completed 457 passes on 711 attempts good for 5,858 yards, 34 touchdowns and 17 interceptions.
Rypien11
Well, you proved you know nothing about football. It is called sarcasm most likely a concept that you cannot grasp my apologies. Let me rephrase it so that you might understand. The guy has done nothing over his career in the NFL but hold a clip board. When he has gotten to play it has been a bit of a non event. Just because he stands on the sidelines holding a clipboard does not mean that he is going to be a good teacher for Mark (Sure Mark knows a little more about playing Qb that Collins does) and for Campbell with the weapons we have all he needs to do is not play dumb. From what we hear about how polished he is that should not be an issue. Gibbs has faith in his so that is good enough for me. Yes Todd has knowledge of the system the Skins are going to run under Saunders that is true. But to say that he is going to be a great teach for Mark and Jason I think not. If Collins was that impressive he would have been a starter by now, which he is not. Hopefully that makes it a little more clear for you. Its ok take your can take your time and read slow just to make sure. Just my :2cents:

Dude, are you serious??!! No one is saying he is a better quarterback than Ramsey, we are simply saying that he will make the learning curve much easier for the eventual starter, Campbell. Saunders offense is not going to be easy to learn for a young guy, so the veteran is brought in to teach, not challenge for a number 1 spot. On another note, Saunders is my cousins next door neighbor, and left on Wednesday afternoon to meet with Collins...It did take a while to finally bring him in, but I guess it was a bargaining chip to get Ramsey out of here. jbooma
I think that Collins will start as the backup. Gibbs does not like playing young QB's he has always been a fan of the veterans. I think with Collins aboard it gives Jason more time to develop, since he does now have to learn a new offense all over again, and Todd knows it. This is insurance if Mark can not stay healthy. Live4Skins
He has been the number 2 in KC behind Green. Anyone think he will fight for the number 2 spot here as well? You know how Gibbs loves his Vets. :whoknows:http://www.kcchiefs.com/player/todd_collins/ I want to know why this guy hasnt completed more starting time on K.C.? His numbers seem to favor talent..and his quarterback rating in the pre-season is friggin rediculous! I'm thinking why have Brunell start in there if we have a QB who knows the system now? Why waste time with a veteran QB like Brunell to learn Saunders system? If anything I would have Collins start, Cambell learning Saunders playbook and Brunell relaying out plays to the starting QB. Not that I think Brunell is a bad QB but his body is not what it was and it showed pretty obviously at the end of the 2005 season. I know its important to have veteran back-up if someone goes down, but I still think the coaches are up to something we yet do not know about the QB line-up. Any opinions to my suggestion? I think with Collins aboard it gives Jason more time to develop, since he does now have to learn a new offense all over again, and Todd knows it. This is insurance if Mark can not stay healthy. But it's not a new offense. It's perhaps a more intricate offense but the principles are the same. I see this as a 3rd QB option only to faciliate the learning curve with JC as the #2. With Coach Gibbs pretty much saying that he would need to step up this year, even with the Saunders signing I don't think this changes anything. Jason will still have time to develop but it will be as the #2 not #3.
