Morgan hurts shoulder in Cowboys' practice

By Clarence E. Hill Jr.

Star-Telegram Staff Writer

IRVING - Cowboys receiver Quincy Morgan injured his left shoulder during practice last week and is in the midst of a vigorous rehab program in hopes of being ready in time for training camp.

Eric Armstead, director of player development for EO Sports Management, the Houston-based agency owned by Morgan's agent, Brian Overstreet, wouldn't go into details about the injury. But he said surgery was not necessary for what he termed "a strain."

"He is doing fine," Armstead said. "He will be ready."

The situation is acute for the Cowboys because they passed on taking a receiver in April's NFL Draft and hope several returning players improve their performances behind starters Keyshawn Johnson and Terry Glenn.

Morgan, who struggled with consistency last season after coming over from Cleveland in a trade for Antonio Bryant, is chief among the players from whom the Cowboys want improvement. The former Kansas State star seemed to be making strides with an impressive off-season; he caught the attention of coach Bill Parcells during the June minicamp.

"He really did a good job of getting into our off-season program here," Parcells said. "He did a good job of improving his strength and his body type a little bit, and I think it is showing up on the field here."

Morgan played nine games with the Cowboys in 2004, catching 22 passes for 260 yards and no touchdowns. He underwent surgery in January to remove a bone growth in his left knee.

The Cowboys report for training camp July 28 in Oxnard, Calif.

I could understand a hamstring, knee twist or sprained ankle, but what was he doing that caused a shoulder sprain? Send the tape to the NFLPA!

He was working with Parcells on proper hand and arm techinque. :jerk:

That sucks, what exactly did he do? Sounds like he is not having surgery to play this season, is that correct?

No surgery now.

In the offseason though it will be necessary.

From what Ive read, its the type of injury that can be rehabbed without the need for surgery; but it needs to be addressed at some point.

He has to get better because, beleive it or not, we are relying on him this season to produce.

We passed on FA WR's and passed on drafting a WR because BP and Co. are really high on him.

He had a great offseason in terms of getting in shape and he has said hes in the best shape of his career (for whatever thats worth).

But either way, it does show you how fragile our WR position is at this juncture.

They have high hopes for Crayton and Copper; but we wont be counting on them.

Morgan on the other hand, we are counting on.

Lets hope this doesnt affect him this season.

What is morgan in the sceme of things to worry about it that much, I mean is he that great a receiver. We must all be desperate for news if we are talking aout the cowgirls number two or three recivers injuries.

Well, never want to wish hurt on any player or wish a team to have injury problems. Players get hurt enough on their own to wish anyone hurt.

Know thy enemy better than you thy thyself is one of the keys to victory.

The cowboy WR corps is a question mark in my opinion. First Bledsoe has to be able to get them the ball. Second, they have to stay healthy. Third, they have to be able to create. Create means getting open, getting separation, catching the balls thrown to them and making yards after the catch. Last year they did not create.

Bledsoe needs to work on his accuracy.

How do you know it was Bledsoe throwing that ball?? Could have been Romor or Henson, as well...

they had a report today that said he didn't need surgery... so, who knows what's gonna happen with him...

It needs surgery and he will have to play the whole year on a bum shoulder. :\

Did you miss this part from the article...

"But he said surgery was not necessary for what he termed "a strain."

One of the idiotic Cowboy beat writers thought Morgan would need surgery and initially reported it that way, looks like he won't after all.

Yeah the original article said he may need surgery after the season. But he will be ok to play this year

A few more injuries around the NFL may start the phone ringing for a certain reciever who wants out of DC. Maybe we can still get something for him?:logo:

If the Skins are willing to hold onto Gardner and take him to camp with them I think they will be able to trade him in the preseason when injuries mount up.
