It is (or was) that, in order for your employer to not be liable for hiring illegals, that he had to have on file a form I-9, which has a checklist of the forms of ID he cheaked when he hired you. The form lists three kinds of IDs: One, like a Drivers License or Military ID, proves identification. One, like SS, a green card, or a birth certificate, proved eligability to work.
