Help! Defaulted Student Loans (and other debt fun)
Ball Security replied to Rdskn4Lyf21's topic in The Tailgate
I did my program at night while working full time, so maybe the amount they would allow me to borrow outside of tuition was limited to cost of living. But since I had income, it seemed like too much. Just like any policy, the framing of it matters and I think politicians and media do a really poor job of it. When I talk to people about student loans I get answers like “it’s not fair, I saved for and paid for college.” Or “I’ve already paid my loans back, it’s not fair.” And those are totally understandable feelings. But student loan relief benefits the economy and society as a whole, not just borrowers. Though the solution is more complicated than wiping out debt.- 464 replies

Help! Defaulted Student Loans (and other debt fun)

I think any policy around student loan relief should focus on curbing the rising cost of education, increasing access to underserved populations, and funding vocational outlets. It’s complicated, and I’m not smart enough to articulate the details, but it goes beyond loan forgiveness. In your suggestion, there would need to be caps on how much you can borrow and what that money can go to. When I went to grad school earlier this century I could borrow so much money that was beyond the cost of tuition. It was unsubsidized so the interest rate was higher. If I could borrow that at 0-ish %, I would have taken out much more and put it in the market. I do think there’s a lot of pent up consumer demand that is not met because of student loans, and although I wouldn’t benefit directly, it’s hard to see how loan relief wouldn’t benefit the economy as a whole.- 464 replies

Such a superstar. We are so fortunate to have him. Can you imagine trading back and missing out on this guy? -

Chase’s scoop and score reminded me a lot of Griffin’s run against the Vikings. -
Wasn’t it Cowherd the one that said John Wall can’t win because he doesn’t know his dad or something obscene like that? Anyway, scrolling through YouTube last night I came across a video of his take the day after the 2017 draft saying John Lynch was one of the biggest winners because they took Solomon Thomas instead of a QB because that draft had no NFL QBs.

We’ve heard Sweat and Savage. I wonder if the third one was Burns and who he would have selected.

IMO, Trubisky has a negative connotation to him because of where he was drafted. Chicago messed up big time by picking him over Mahomes and Watson. But if he put up the same production as a third rounder he’d have a lot more buzz heading into free agency. That said, I don’t particularly want him as he’ll likely command more than he’s worth. But if his market is suppressed, you have to keep an eye on him.

I feel like I read that too, but I’ve also seen restricted. Either way, if they want him they can prevent him from leaving. -
Could be, regarding NE. They arguably have more holes on their roster than we do. Are they willing to give up more? One thing I keep coming back to is that Detroit only has 4 picks going into the draft. Would it be better for both if we offered more picks in the middle rounds than a number 1. Then we could slide back in the first, possibly, depending on how the draft goes.

Think about this: this defense has given up 20 points or less in eight out of 15 games this season. Don’t know if any team has more. The Rams and Dolphins have eight.

Definitely worth it, IMO. I’m sure they are not second guessing themselves.

I don’t disagree. We’re not going to find a long term solution in FA. They need to evaluate if they are better options than Allen and Heinicke (which I think is possible). Have you studied Newman? On paper he seems intriguing as a guy you could get in the third or fourth and develop at an appropriate pace while keeping your 1st and 2nd.

I don’t see Fitzpatrick as an ideal solution for Turner’s offense from my perception. He’s not mobile anymore. He turns the ball over a lot. Maybe, with the defense, they can be comfortable with that. I love the guy. Though I think Taylor fits what Turner wants to do better. I don’t think they need to be great at QB, just professional and competent consistently. I could see them preserve their draft capital, take a FA like Taylor, Fitz, or Trubisky and take a flier on Newman with one of their 3rds.
