  1. Regarding Sweat: there's no issue with him performing. They chose to pick up an early 2nd (and save some '23 dollars), and spend the $25 million/yr elsewhere. As for the DTs.... Allen was playing through injury to start the year, so who knows whether he's feeling good...but by now they have to be hitting their stride. Both are top 10 DTs who aren't playing like it. With more disciplined edges and MLB - albeit less athleticism - they have no reason not to wreak havoc. At the end of the day, a penetrating middle is supposed to lead to sacks and interceptions. That's what needs to happen.
  2. I don't think you need one if they keep this style of WCO. Maybe an elite TE. Hopefully we see it in the back half of this year, but Terry and Jahan can carve up teams with short routes. We're starting to see it. But dominating the middle with an elite TE frees up the slants that go yard.

  4. But it seems like a good chunk are the 1 v 1 where he fakes it well enough to break the tackle or juke completely.
  5. Trent became the elite player at his position. Literally the best. If Chase skipped OTAs but was on TJ Watt level, it would not be talked about as much. He never was top tier at his position. Stars get exceptions made for them because they produce results and Chase was not one. Does skipping OTAs disqualify you from a 'C' patch? I think it should.
  6. I'm an optimistic realistic, maybe 4-5 wins. Wins against Seahawks, Giants, Cowboys (x1) and 1-2 lucky wins toward the end of the year. 3-5 losses and 3-5 wins is what I see happening. No 6 game winning streak coming.
  7. It was a weak O, but it was a good game by the D. Not the pressure you want from the edge. You had the long run where Davis was late on the scissor A gap blitz, or whatever it's called, and it's coached that you can't be. Davis is much better but still has a few of those a game. Short field following the fumble was another TD. Need a RE and a MLB. Overall D is rounding into form, but they always start slow with JDR. They were on the field too much for the first half of the season. Not enough turnovers.
  8. Need to see him against starting receivers, but definitely a 180. There was one good route on him seeing if he'd jump. He is going to have to be like Deion if he's not going to be a great tackler and not a Revis style glue guy. Going to have be near the league high's on PDs and INTs.
  9. The advantage is that we have seen taller receivers fall down the draft and still have success. But my wildcard for round 1 in '24 is TE or WR. Think the height will continue to come from TE. Jahan might work more out of the slot in time, so I can see room for an outside guy.
  10. You either cut him as a June 1st cut or keep him because it's a wash to cut or keep. Likely Gates becomes a reserve guy for one more year. Wouldn't be the worst case. Sure, a massive overpayment but we've seen worse. They should be drafting two day 2 OL next year, and at least one needs to start at LG. Gates days as a starter here are done. Ricky will take over for Larsen at C next year. Leno + Daniels (4th, '23) 2nd Rnd '24 + Paul Ricky (3rd, '23) + Larsen Cosmi (2nd, '21) + Gates Wiley + 2nd Rnd '24 '24 1st will be a LT.
  11. Wouldn't be the first. Probably some players now who do. I just hope they can find a starting guard with that pick they got for Chase. Give us 8-9 years of good LG play and it's an A+ trade.
  12. Second week in a row that the OL played better. Not that Chris Paul was particularly good, but clearly they have turned a corner with this lineup. RB's played better and Gibson had one of his better games. Pringle and Crowder impressed today. Love Jamison as a PR and hope they re-sign him. Jahan and Terry are still only at 80% of where they should be. Teams are focusing on the DTs, so they need more pressure from DE - I like that we saw Henry and Jones get time as the game went on. Fuller and Curl continue to impress. Forbes and Quan had their best games against a weakened receiving corps. Butler probably did too.
  13. I mean it's not out of the realm of possibility to do an attacking style 3-4 zone defense Steelers LeBeau style. Payne plays left Mathis and Ridgeway middle Allen plays right I just think the days of the 34's like that are mostly done. Too many athletes on the field that you will be playing 5-6 DBs most of the time.
  14. Agreed The need was so strong for OL in the second round that it makes absolutely no sense to me..... Unless Quan is a FS to be and they do not plan to re-sign Curl after tagging him. But he really needed to be starting right away for this pick to make sense.
  15. None of the RBs are great, and it should be improved. Portis was wasted behind those awful Wash lines at the end, but he was still a difference maker with that garbage interior OL. Literally carried them. Passing game worked because of play-action fakes to give Santana and Cooley time to get open.
  16. Last game was a glimpse of what they could be. Need Terry to make those catches. The O needs Terry + Logan + Jahan to be carving it up. Huge step in the right direction last week. Some are sleeping on Logan - he has looked really good. These receivers are good enough to be hitting 7+ catches and 100+ yards every game.
  17. I don't think that is entirely fair. Play-calling quicker passes with shorter routes, and subbing Gates and Charles out proved key. I think Stromberg takes over LG as the better player, but Gates stays on the bench. Watching the games, we'll say 80% of the sacks I put mostly on the line.
  18. Forbes mostly. Barton some. Johnson last weekend. BSJ and Fuller had their moments. Other than Forbes and Barton being awful, it has been shared failure. Butler is a rotational player and playing like it, which is way better than the first couple of seasons. There might be hope for him. He's had some surprisingly good run fits and open field tackling. Again, this is coming from someone who completely dismissed him as a player worthy of snaps. Tagging Curl buys them two drafts to find a starter if Quan isn't a starting safety and instead a NCB or bust.
  19. Commanders 38-13 Statement game for Howell and EB following up on a strong Eagles game. We saw what they can be. And Howell missed some open TDs last week. Going bold. It would make it spicy in the week too post-trades, so it is my hope.
  20. Hard to know whether they will re-sign Curl. Spent a premium pick on his replacement (Martin), and they have a starter in Forrest that probably should play closet to the line. Maybe Quan plays deeper. Either way, with so many other needs it was a puzzling pick if Curl is not headed out. Butler has played better than I expected. He may have turned a corner in mindset and taken a step. I love Curl's IQ, but I think that only convinces me that he'll want to test FA and maximize his worth.
  21. That was my immediate thought. They have decided to use the tag on Curl, and so they take guaranteed compensation via trade for Sweat and Young now. Curl isn't going to like it, but it is a huge raise and he is a true pro.
  22. That valuation only works for future picks. A 3rd round pick in 2024 is 'equal to' a 2nd Round in 2025 or a 1st Round in 2026. It is clear as day that a 2019 pick who would be re-signed to a deal by now (or on the 5th year option) is getting paid. They are not more valuable to the team than a productive rookie. As for when that dynamic was different: look at the rookie contracts for Stafford and Calvin Johnson. When the rookie contracts were handled by the CBA, the value of the rookie contracts to a team were far greater. If you have a productive 2nd round pass rusher next year who is roughly average as opposed to a fringe pro-bowler getting paid $22-25 million/yr, you take the guy the lower cost option.
  23. You're actually not correct, but that would have been true mid-2000s when the rookie contracts were outta wack. A productive 24th pick rookie in 2024 far outweighs.the value of the 24th pick of 2019 who is now getting serious $$ if he is any good, which he should be in your argument. Sweat will get paid, just like Preston got paid.
