Right, to me it was not unlikely. To me, I could see right away from the Tampa playoff game (as well as his regular season action), that while he may not have had an NFL arm, he did have NFL talent overall. He compensated for the arm in other ways. It was the combination of those 2 games, plus the research I did on him. I've been watching football for long enough, that I can gauge pretty well from a small window, whether or not a player has NFL talent, or if he's just a flash in the pan. I never saw him as a flash in the pan. I knew that his "small sample size" would eventually become a Large Sample Size. I'm no NFL scout. But for a fan, I think I have a pretty good feel for what player's potential is. And I don't just base it on stats. I look at intangibles as well.

After McCarthy's quote about being confident they will win, he follows it up with "well, what am I supposed to say ?!" So, he's only saying that, just because he's "supposed" to say it, and not because he really believes it ?

If we make it to the playoffs this year, that means for 2 seasons in a row, we'll without a doubt have the best QB Story of the season for the last 2 years. With QB's that almost everyone counted out as done in the NFL, for varying reasons, who both led crazy comebacks and turnarounds mid-season to make the playoffs. Last year, virtually everyone considered Alex Smith's career done, not just with his health issues. But we started 2-7 on top of that. And he goes on a 4 game win streak, to lead us to the playoffs. This year, it's Taylor Heinicke, who most people never saw as a starting QB in the NFL, especially after the Fitzpatrick signing, and again, we start out poorly at 2-6, but again win 4 games in a row. We just have to finish what we started (mid-season that is) and we'll have 2 crazy mid-season comebacks to make the playoffs, by the least likely of QB's.

Hopefully our players get motivated the same way Russ Grimm got motivated against Randy White in the big 1982 game, when he changed Gibb's call just so he could keep run-blocking on a weary White. Wasn't White also the one who previously threw the funeral wreath in our locker room

Giants having high picks doesn't really scare me. They havn't seemed to do much with their drafts, even their high picks. Except maybe for that one WR they drafted. Their drafting ability looks a lot like the "old" success rate we used to have drafting on our team.

It's too small of a sample size, to call it a weak arm. I need to see a lot more consistency of weak-thrown balls, in order to pronounce him a truly weak armed thrower.

And Flowers was putting up fists against the opponent to defend his QB. And speaking of Holcomb, he had an amazing game himself. Who knew he had so much athleticism in defending passes ?

If Heinicke was not in football, he would be an Escape Artist. A Legendary Escape Artist. One who uses Analytical Mathematical Nature Theories to escape.

He's 9 for 9 this year. And three of those were game winners. I like everything I've seen about him. I bet he takes the job.

From a wild card chase perspective, it was a very good weekend for us. All these teams lost, that are potentially competing with us for a Wild Card : New Orleans, Minnesota, San Francisco, Atlanta, Chicago and NYG (tho the last 2 are longshots) And a couple of the contenders that won this weekend, we hold a tiebreaker against, anyway : Tampa, Seattle. And Philly won too, but we still have 2 games left head to head.

Today's significance - he has just attained a winning record, since being named starter, which is 6-5. Before today's game, nfl.com had Carr was the league's #1 rated passer. Which just adds more weight to his feat of beating Brady, Newton, Russell, and Carr in 4 straight games. We did it with a lot of defense. However, thanks to Heinicke's ball-control offense, the defense had much less work to do than normal ; as Heinicke has been eating up the clock with long drives, total time of possession, etc. Yes, part of that relies on a good running game, and credit to Gibson. But Heinicke was clutch, and consistent, and low on mistakes, in order to control the ball via the clock and keep our defense and their offense off the field much of the time.

He was. And I don't mean this in a sarcastic way, but I think it really applies here : as just like people said about Heinicke - that was a small sample size from Slye.

Our destiny is in our control, so it's time to roll.

Something to think about : If Kyle Allen had never injured his foot last year, there is a very good chance he would be the starter right now, and been the one to replace Fitz. As it probably would have meant that Heinicke probably wouldn't have gotten that chance against Tampa, and not had his talent "discovered".

In a technical way, but not the perception which has the most impact. We started getting hot before the midpoint of the season, which is actually earlier than our "late surges" in the past. The fact we got hot earlier in the latter part of the season, (as long as we can maintain it), bodes well especially with an extra game, since our "surge" covers a larger volume of games. So the impact I was referring to was, we will have a longer calendar list of games to play while we're "hot"

Is it possible... the reason that Everett jumped into our stands was... a desperate attempt to escape from the prison of being a Seahawk, and him saying, "Please take me, Washington. I sooo want to play for a Playoff Contender !!!" That game and that play was like his "work release program" that he was using to escape from the Washington STATE prison, run by Seahawks.

Who knows. BJ might beat him out. They're both kind of young and inexperienced and unproven, so either one of them could go either way. So I would think they'd give BJ an equal chance to win the job, as somewhat of an open competition. Slye didn't do terrible, but didn't really entrench himself in the position. Imagine, we're about to play our 12th game, and on our 4th Kicker. That averages a new kicker about once every 3 games.
