  1. Not surprising but still sad. And something that needs to be addressed. But since we have already run to our corners on who is to blame, I doubt it is worth discussing. And yes, **** the government for putting people in this position. No disagreement there. But yelling at the drunk driver doesn't do much for you except point out you should have gotten the uninsured motorist coverage. Idiots will cause you pain you dont deserve. But you need to be prepared for it.
  2. I don't mean this as a shot at those that have been furloughed. But one result of this whole debacle is we as a society need to focus more on budgeting and personal financial emergency preparing. I'm sure most of us have heard that you should have X number of months (I've heard 3, 6, 9, 12, etc) of your normal income in savings in case of emergency. The more stories I hear, the more it sounds like this isn't commonplace. And it really should be. *Yes, I know not everyone can do this, different people have different circumstances, blah blah blah. This isn't a defense of the shutdown or blame towards those furloughed. Just a general statement of concern. Now commence flaming me.
  3. What makes the weight point even funnier to me is that more small magazines weigh the same as less large magazines. Either way, 100 rounds (or whatever quantity) is 100 rounds. The minimal amount of weight added by the slightly more plastic casing of the magazine is probably a few grams.
  4. Well you are welcome to lobby for a 10 round limit but just remember how much something like that would motivate even more of the GOP base. Better hope the Left's base gets just as motivated. You are welcome to roll the dice, just don't cry when it comes up snake eyes. EDIT: Also, you are aware that carrying around six 10 round magazines would weigh virtually the same as two 30 round magazines, right?
  5. I'll try it at home tonight. Obviously with unloaded magazines for safety reasons. But that shouldn't affect the time at all. I'll let you know how it goes.
  6. I'll try to remember test this when I get home. I think estimate is way too long though. I've never tried to purposly, quickly change out a magazine. But I think even if I am just doing it at a normal pace, I don't think it takes that long. I'd imagine that anyone, even an amateur, could do it in less than 5 seconds with maybe 30 minutes of practice. If I remember, I'll let you know my results. Edit: Just to be clear, we are talking about changing out an already loaded magazine in an AR-15 style rifle, correct?
  7. One, that is why I asked if your proposed law would apply only to new gun purchases going forward or all guns currently in circulation. Two, I am saying I disagree with your proposal. I'm just not using the reasoning of "it's dumb" as you stated. Third, you didn't answer my question about compensation.
  8. Would you offer any compensation? Just more personal guns alone that would fall under the 10 round ban are worth over $2k. Now imagine that cost on a larger scale. I don't think I said it was. But just so we are clear, are you wanting this limit to only apply to new gun sales or to all guns currently in circulation?
  9. @CousinsCowgirl84 Since you seem to be so for this 10 round limit, what do you propose be done with all the weapons that would now be illegal? And are okay with making over 50% of guns in circulation in the state illegal? And do you propose this 10 round limit be made nationwide? They didn't need to because they are availabe on the open market. Impossible to say what they would have done if they weren't.
  10. I'm not going to start down the road of what a person "needs" again. That has been thoroughly discussed over that last 247 pages. I will speak to the design of most handguns. If you don't know (no insult, just not sure your gun knowledge level), most handguns are designed so the bullets are kept in the handgrip. Because the physical size of most handgun designs so they fit correctly in normal sized hands, they hold 10-17 rounds on average. You can get smaller handguns like the Glock 42/43 that hold 6 rounds. But that is small even in my child-sized hands. Also, smaller hand guns are usually far less accurate due to shorter barrel lenght and less weight (both affect accuracy). Now a few options: Manufacturers could make a normal sized handgun that holds less rounds by changing the size/design of the magazine you could fit in there. But will they? Hard to say if it is only going to be a small percentage of their market base. And aftermarket companies could still design extended magazines. That would be legal as long as they weren't sold in VA. But still wouldn't be hard to get. Just look at how people in Chicago get their guns. You could make a magazine with a spacer or just not put more than 10 rounds in the gun. Will anyone make a spacer for a small marketplace? Who knows. Will just putting less rounds in the gun be legal? I don't think so because my understanding of the proposed law affects guns capable of holding more than 10 rounds. But assume it did. How would you enforce it? Random checks of gun owners? You could just tell citizens too bad, this is the law and figure it out. But that raises the same questions I already put up. And this is just in regards to handguns. What about long guns? Pretty much every magazine-fed long gun is capable of holding more than 10 rounds. So would they all be banned? If you just ban the size of the magazine itself, look at NJ for how effective that has been. I think I am more pro gun control than most "conservatives" and this 10 round limit automatically loses my vote. The other proposals I could be talked into. They at least wouldn't be instant vote-losers for me.
  11. Many handguns are designed to hold more than 10 rounds. Yes you could make a magazine that would have a spacer so a 15 round gun could be made to hold 10 rounds. Or I could only put 10 in my 15 round gun. The ways to make this technically possible are many. And the ways to get around it are twice as much. If you view it as an either/or topic, you better motivate the hell out of your base. Because gun control motivates the hell out of the Right. Or drop the 10-round rule. Most I know agree with the other thoughts. Or at least hate them less. But a ban on 80% of guns will cause you to lose another election. And without a door to door search, you can't enforce it.
  12. In terms of handguns, there isnt really a way to do one with the other. Glock 19 for example, one of the most popular handguns there is.
  13. Some have. Also NJ just passed a magazine size ban with no buy back. As far as I know, not a single one has been turned in. I know I will have to concede on some things to defeat the hard right. A ban that would outlaw ~80% of my firearms is a step too far. Put that up and I will vote R every time. People can disagree with my position but that doesn't change it. Want my vote? Be careful how Left you go.
  14. I'm against the 10-round ban anyway. But what are we supposed to do with all the banned guns if this passes? Just destroy them and take the financial loss? Things like this are what make me reconsider voting Dem.
  15. I love that they felt the need to explain what a threesome was and that "More traditional intimate encounters involve two people." Thanks for clearing that up.
  16. With all the crap going on here, I forgot about this. So looking like a no deal Brexit?
  17. If we stick to our current track, the Iggles will win another few SB before we sniff one.
  18. Is that what it's called when you are spewing pecker snot at her within 5 minutes of introduction?
  19. Viola is just one brand. But there are a whole bunch. Very easy to make. Usually put in a pan for 10 minutes over heat stirring occasionally. Just look in the frozen section. Birds Eye (or something close to that) makes the Viola ones. Bertolli ones are pretty legit also.
  20. I'm living single. The Viola bag meals are good. I usually keep a few. I spice them up with bacon and stuff sometimes.
  21. While I agree with this in general, I also agree with the below quote from the article It looks like this was so long ago, no real investigation could be done. And I don't like the idea that accusations alone cost someone their job. Hopefully the rise of awareness will compel people to come forward sooner so it can be investigated. *Note: I've admitted before, and will admit again, my opinion is probably a little jaded having been falsely accused and seeing the effect it had on my career.
  22. I saw they were negotiating with him.
  23. Made rockfish tonight. Rack of lamb tomorrow.
