  1. Probably so. What I think we really need is a good receiver. I’m fine with Harris and Quick as the backups, but I see Doctson and Richardson as both #2 types (though there’s at least some hope they become something more). Really wish we had more ammo this draft (or fewer glaring needs)... I’d be happy to take a chance on Gallup, St. Brown or Washington, for example. I’m assuming we’ll take a late round guy to compete with Robert Davis and bolster the back end. I’d also take a close look at receivers cut from teams with a good corp - guys with a year under their belt and therefore a slightly smaller learning curve. Wish we had hung hung onto Matt Hazel. Maybe we’ll find another version of him - a guy that flashes in TC.
  2. This is really underrated IMO. If we have Davis and Reed in, either we struggle to run the ball, or pass and we’re light on pass pro (don’t want to leave Thompson in too much and I haven’t been impressed with our other backs blocking). Now, we have Sprinkle, but has he shown enough to take snaps from Vernon? Maybe in short yardage, but otherwise I don’t know. A well rounded TE could help a lot. Adding that kind of guy helps Smith, as well as the run game, which means it helps with offensive balance. Also allows us to treat Reed more as a receiver (which I think helps the talent there). Personally, I want to see 2 of DT/RB/G addressed in the 1st and 2nd, but if we either sign a DT, or trade back and gain a 2nd or 3rd, I’d be happy to go TE then.
  3. The way Harris and Quick were handled (underused), and having Pryor and Doctson practicing the same position... weird decision making at receiver last year. Not sure what to make of it. Almost surprised me that Quick re-signed.
  4. So you’re saying, lot’s of... Luck to him?
  5. After we eat the guaranteed money, the risk is a bit less for a team trading for him. Still somewhat of a high risk, high reward scenario though. Two picks, 1 assured, 1 conditional might make sense. Similar to our deal for Carrier, though hopefully better picks. Personally, I’d definitely keep him this year (especially after hearing they treated the root of the leg injury problem), the hope being he performs better and stays healthier this year, which ups his trade value. Draft a TE this year and develop them to take over (along with Sprinkle).
  6. Richardson adds the speed element, but I believe I read that he’s not necessarily much for separating. That concerns me with Smith at qb. Still, he’s a solid addition. Speed, may be a decent blocker, and known for helping on broken plays... all things that can help us. Looking forward to seeing him in action. Glad Quick is back too. He’s not a world beater, but he’s a solid vet that gives us some insurance if the young guys don’t step up and/or if Doctson is injured. Still have hope for Doctson, but the guy I want to see emerge is Robert Davis. That would be a huge help. Also think that we don’t necessarily need a stud, but solid options that can make occasional big plays. Maybe we have that now. If we do, Reed/Crowder/Thompson/Davis will be in a better position to succeed, and will help draw coverage from the outside guys. We need a blocking TE, yes, and Sprinkle may be that guy, but... I really want to add an all around TE. A guy that you can leave on the LOS or send out as a legit weapon. There’s a decent chance we will want to move on from Davis and Reed next year, so we also need a guy to develop for the future. A back that is a weapon in both the ground and pass game would be a big help as well. Love Thompson, but we need more of a threat on 1st and 2nd downs. Essentially, we’ve got some good players, and some decent potential. Really want to wind up with a balanced offense that can succeed regardless of what opposing defenses try to take away.
  7. Winning off the field, lol. Seriously though, well done ‘Skins.
  8. Fair enough, I'm certainly not trying to rehash the RGIII show, just curious about whether that's a transition plan (if it even was the plan) that 1) could work and 2) Jay might be open to trying.
  9. So, I could well be wrong here, but my impression/hunch was that Kyle’s plan for Griffin was to go with a system he was familiar with (and could excel in), and slowly add more traditional pass concepts. Eventually, he’d (ideally) transition completely. Of course, that all went out the window with the injury. I feel like the idea was pretty sound, even if it fell apart. So, if I’m right about the above, I wonder if Jay would consider a similar approach if we draft a young guy that played in more of a spread and R/O offense (like Rudolph).
  10. Didn’t notice it at the time, but we had two Zach’s starting at ILB last week.
  11. @dav87scI thought it was common knowledge that Representative Wilson 1) was a family friend, 2) was a mentor to him, and 3) that she was riding in the car with the family. With (part of) the blame aimed at her, I'm guessing right wing media probably didn't really mention #1 and #2. I would say they need to be better informed with their deflections, but many seem to gobble it up. (I would say something about how they did it to Clinton on a vast scale... but I don't think you'd be the right audience).
  12. Well that's all just fine and dandy, isn't it?
  13. @LD0506The thing is (and I know you know this), many in that particular bubble will still blame things on others. Trump will damage the ACA and when it hurts rural voters, it will be because the Dems/media pushback didn't allow the Moron in Chief to do what was needed. When air pollution worsens, it's because Dems originally sent all their jobs overseas and the Liar is doing the best he can. The increased divisiveness is caused by Dems, the media and minorities. There won't be any introspection, any pursuit of facts, any recognition of the faults in this administration/Congress, etc. I don't see any way we bridge the divide with the hardcore Trumpeters... he can do absolutely no wrong.
  14. I'm not. Fox wants to have their cake and eat it too (ideological stance and football game viewership).
  15. Great point about the culture change. As mindnumbingly depressing as it is, I still have a modicum of hope. It's getting increasingly harder though to not think this is the beginning of this country's plummet. Putin sure picked the perfect fulcrum to set the ball rolling, didn't he?
  16. All of the reports on how many times certain Russian propaganda Facebook stories were shared/passed along... so damned depressing. The attitude that these didn't influence the election much... it's like saying advertising doesn't work. Heard a podcast in which they discussed just 5 such stories and how they were seen by tens of millions of Americans.
  17. Man, I've stayed out of this mess, but avoidance/silence has been made harder by the day. So... some thoughts... Keith Olberman made an interesting point about protests being part of the bedrock of our country and that protesting shows a desire to fix a problem with the country, which should be seen as patriotic. Of course, I understand that most people's issue here isn't with the protesting, but with how it relates to the flag/anthem. It's still an interesting response to the "if you don't like it, then leave" narrative. I still think that the main main driver of the conversation stems from what lens you're looking through. If you believe there is significant racial injustice (particularly as it pertains to treatment by law enforcement), you're far more likely to sympathize with the kneeling players and not see any disrespect. And the reverse. And then there are the people that essentially accept being told what to believe by whichever media outlet they consume, or friends they are surrounded by. Although I think it's horse hockey to feel these players are disrespecting the military, I also think people that believe that have every right to do so. Now, if they are also part of the population that rails against the PC norms... they should take that into consideration when they declare kneeling offensive.
  18. On Pod Save America, they interviewed Ray Maybus - former Secretary of the Navy. Talked about (among many other things) transitioning to alternative energy and why. Very interesting. Seals now have roll out solar panels so they don't have to use generators (a beacon for enemies due to their volume), and marine units no longer need to carry hundreds of pounds of batteries. Points out that USS Cole was bombed while refueling, ships are often forced to refuel at (non-American) ports, and fueling costs have now been cut back. Really, really interesting conversation.
  19. Maddow talked about this last night, said an associate of Steele has said Steele agreed to meet with the SIC and that hasn't changed. Not sure what the disconnect is... Strange.
  20. This is one of those few times a year that I question the decision to cut the cable cord... On a related note - picked up a tuner (old one won't plug into the new tv) to catch some of the nationally televised Skins games, and it gets 6 channels... and none of the main networks. Money well spent...
  21. What the ****?! What an awful event. Not much of a praying man, but my prayers go out to the victim's families.
  22. They portray him as a naive idiot, which can make it tough to take (and that's far from the only issue), but it actually makes some sense in the grand scheme of things. My take anyway. Lower your expectations and it's not (as) bad.
