  1. You should be hopeful for the future of the NFL then. The way they keep reducing the amount of physicality allowed in the games should result in it being a flag football league in another 10 years. I'm the opposite. I miss the way the game was played in the 70s and 80s.
  2. If I was Snyder - or any other owner, really - that's what I'd do. Tell him he has to make major changes to his staff.
  3. I don't know, guys. I'm really confused, because I'm still moved by Danny's "we finally have QB" quote. This is on Ron. He brought in depth guys for the line, and named them starters (Norwall, Turner). They're second stringers on most teams. Carson could have a fantastic season if he could just stay upright. Very few QBs are going to live up to their potential throwing off their back foot all the time. In the meantime, Turner could start dialing up more quick, three step drop plays - screens, slants, etc. Gibson and McKissick could be dangerous in the flat. Also, what happened to Curtis Samuel? They used him in a number of ways in game one. I don't recall seeing too much from him in the Dallas game.
  4. I saw very little of that in him even in his first year. I chalked it up to the cancer treatments taking it out of him, but then I thought his willingness to be on the sidelines on gamedays during all that was so motivational in itself.
  5. We hired Spurrier because he was a legendary college coach who was a "can't miss" prospect for the NFL... We brought back Gibbs because...well... he's Gibbs. Still not sure why we hired Zorn... Hired Shanahan for the same reason we brought back Gibbs. History of success. Hired Jay Gruden because we couldn't get the Gruden we actually wanted. Hired Rivera because he's a heck of a good guy who was going to transform the culture. So, yeah, we need to go in a new direction when hiring coaches. We need to stop with these gimmick hires that look and sound good on paper. Everything is a marketing move with Snyder.
  6. But we had been a 3-4, and moved back to a 4-3 with the new regime. I was in favor of it, because for the entire time we were a 3-4, we never drafted a true NT or brought one in via free agency. But yeah, money-wise, there's no way we keep 4 first rounders on our D line for too much longer.
  7. I read Ron completely wrong when he was hired. I thought he was a tough, no-nonsense guy who would build a strong, physical team that pushes their opponent around for 4 quarters. After the Gruden era, I was begging for them to get a defensive minded HC, but this, this just isn't working. We certainly haven't established any kind of physicality on defense, and our O line aren't mean, nasty guys who block their man until the whistle blows. When was the last time one of our O linemen had a pancake block, or blocked their guy 10-15 yards downfield, like Trent Williams used to do? If we were 1-3, but our opponents were coming out of these games black and blue and knowing they were lucky to survive a dogfight, I could live with that. But the Eagles and Boys played us like they knew the outcome before the games started, and felt like they didn't even have to expend much effort to win. That's the biggest problem I see as far as a lack of identity. We play like doormats, and the other teams know that going in.
  8. Same. I can't believe how much negative energy I used to produce after every loss. Now I barely have any feelings one way or another. The sad thing is, I love the game of football, and love watching it at the highest level (not that I like the NFL as a brand so much, but they are the best of the best). And in order to continue having any interest, I may have to decide on another team to follow. I'm tired of my team's on and off field antics, and the rebrand has decreased my feelings of loyalty to this ****show.
  9. This coaching staff has to go. They are out of their depth here. Season 3 of a rebuild and culture change, and they come out the gate 1-3, with no evidence that the potential to improve is present. Unacceptable. Look around the league and see if you can find this level of dysfunction anywhere else. Even the Jets' coach seems to be getting things turned around a bit this season.
  10. Nobody is going to be in the building at the end of the season when they reveal the mascot... and I'm fine with that. **** all of them. **** the Snyders for caving to pressure to rebrand. **** everyone who's been involved in the rebrand. **** our coaching staff that's starting their 3rd season at 1-3. **** the players if they don't call a players only meeting tonight and decide to start calling their own plays because the coordinators aren't getting them prepared and refusing to make in-game adjustments. **** thinking Taylor Heinecke will solve all the offensive problems. **** thinking Chase Young will come back from a horrible knee injury and the defense will be magically competitive. And mostly, **** me for wasting another Sunday afternoon watching this trash.
  11. Really don't care at this point. I won't be buying any merch featuring the new mascot, and I won't be seeing him at games because I won't be going to any. I might have felt differently if they had gone with Red Wolves, especially if I could have bought my sons a couple of cute wolf plushies. Thanks for nothing, Comrades.
  12. The team just doesn't elicit the emotions in me that it used to. I still watch, mostly out of habit, and I do hope they win. But when they don't I just don't get upset anymore. And I still haven't warmed up to any part of the rebrand. Of course, the whole league has been getting harder for me to deal with. I watch because I love the sport, but I feel like the NFL's marketing schemes, fantasy football, and now gambling are ruining it. Fantasy has turned the league into one where the individual players are deemed more important than the teams. Since the NFL finally accepted gambling as legitimate, I think they've ruined their credibility. Gambling was always happening, but the NFL gave the impression that it stayed above the fray by not recognizing it. Now, every football show has at least one segment where they discuss the point spreads and the odds for each game. And then there's the actual broadcasts. Sunday Night Football's theme song segment is so big that it has its own sponsor. And the ads for all the merchandise are ridiculous. I know it'll never go back to when the NFL was just something guys watched on a Sunday afternoon while drinking a few beers and avoiding their family and mowing the lawn. It'll never go back to when the Superbowl halftime show was a marching band. Maybe if the team from DC didn't suck so much, I wouldn't care so much about the transformation the league has undergone under Goodell's watch.
  13. Ron hasn't done enough in the league to be someone an owner gives carte blanche to. How many other owners would have thought this was a good idea?
  14. I'm ready to see the RR era come to an end. When he was hired, he was being touted as an elder statesman of the league. Someone who'd fix the culture just because he seems to be a decent guy himself. Well, part of a culture for a football team is to be a competitive, winning franchise. Year three is starting off without any evidence to think the rebuild is producing positive results. He's done nothing to show that he's anything more than an average, mediocre HC, and he's shown less from a personnel standpoint. He's a good man, but he's just not getting the job done.
  15. I've been in acceptance (indifference) for a very long time...
  16. The Eagles' D line is doing to our offense what our D Line should have done last week to Detroit's banged up O line.
  17. Who is the horrible color commentator on the FOX telecast? He's been bad all day, but he just told Graham to "take your helmet off and celebrate" which is supposed to be a penalty. But then again, the refs didn't call it, so maybe he wasn't so off target...
  18. Well, he's the owner, so it doesn't really work that way. Unless all the other owners decide to do it, which they won't.
  19. Happy for Payne making a nice play, but I hated seeing Del Rio smiling on the sideline.
  20. Just when I thought the shutout was ruined, the Eagles get it back for us...
  21. Take Command! TAKE COMMAND!!! Umm... Take command? Am I doing this right?
  22. I wouldn't be surprised to see some kickers coming in for tryouts on Tuesday. As for coaches, nobody's going anywhere right now. I would think that - worst case scenario - if the defense falters for a few more games, maybe Ron takes over playcalling the D. Probably wouldn't help a whole lot, but it would send a message that Ron has zero confidence left in JDR. If the team really lays an egg this season, Ron still might get another year. He was hired to be a culture change ambassador as much as a HC, and he's taken that very seriously. His beating cancer while coaching that first season was inspirational. If Danny lets him go, people throughout the league will see him as more of an asshole than they already think he is.
