  1. The in person meetings next week are a crucial part of the process. They could swing is one way or another - or just confirm the way we were already leaning. That’s partly why all the angst in this thread about a decision that is still not made is way premature.
  2. Rule changes to protect QBs certainly mean QBs don’t take hits to the head or below the knees like back in the day (well not nearly as much). But they absolutely still take a beating standing in making throws. Heck just think of some of the shots Sam Howell took last year. Playing QB from within the pocket in the NFL is still a significant physical challenge.
  3. A fair percentage of posters in this thread seem to be assuming it’s happening. Not all of them seem fine with it mind you. I lean Maye but think we are in the very fortunate position of having two blue chip QB prospects to choose from. I’m relaxed about this - have to trust people being paid a lot of money to do the analysis and make the decision.
  4. It would shock the hell out of me. It’s going to come down to Daniel’s versus Maye. I suspect it’s a very close evaluation - maybe Daniel’s is ahead by a nose based on the smoke. They both have in person visits - how those go will be huge and could tip this one way or another. Also for those already calling a decision to draft Daniel’s over Maye a ‘disaster’ - can we let whoever we draft take a couple of snaps before we start talking about ‘disasters’?
  5. We have an away game against the Cardinals in AZ this year. My home patch! I will be attending and look forward to maybe meeting some of you around that game.
  6. After 20 games Peyton Manning had 5 wins and had thrown 34 interceptions. Not quite sure why Cover 6 would be the silver bullet against Daniel’s. Quarter quarter/half versus thirds doesn’t seem to me to be a difference maker against him. I do agree teams will make him prove he can beat them between the numbers.
  7. An interesting way to look at this is how would you feel if the guy you don’t want us to draft fell and was picked by the Giants. Does Daniel’s or Maye being a Giant worry you? It would worry me - which tells what most already know these are two blue chip prospects and we are lucky to be in a position to make a choice.
  8. We need to be patient - period. We have been waiting for ‘the guy’ for about 30 years. Arguably since Sam Baugh retired.
  9. Whichever guy we draft he’s then our guy. I can’t understand people who profess to be Commanders fans who would root for either guy to fail. I think there will be very few of those kinds of people. Where it gets murky is if the guy we draft struggles/plays poorly and/or the team struggles/plays poorly. How long before the folks who were not in his camp start the ‘I told you’ posts. Definitions on what constitutes success and timeline on achieving that success will vary …
  10. Which is the reason it - and about 90% of all social media - was posted. All about engagement …
  11. I recall one 88 yard TD to open the game against some team that one time …
  12. It doesn’t matter who was viewed as the consensus #2 for the last year by mock drafts, media, ex QBs or unnamed scouts. It doesn’t matter who is viewed as the consensus #2 pick in that group now. All that matters who our decision makers view as the #2. And no one outside a very small group in the building knows that.
  13. I think he was in that top 10 category. But I guess that O was more built around Riggins and the O’Line than Joey. It wasn’t often the game was put on his arm.
  14. Joey T had about a 5 year run when he was elite. Went to back to back Super Bowls and was league MVP. Joe Gibbs just got him too late in his career.
  15. Oh for sure. I think its almost a lock whoever we pick at #2 will start day 1. But can imagine this Board after about 5 starts if whoever the pick is struggles ... Got to look at this as a project and trust the process.
  16. They are all projects. You can strike gold and get a guy who is immediately good - but more realistically they are ALL projects. Peyton Manning holds the NFL record for interceptions as a rookie.
  17. It's going way way back but the Cowboys took Troy Aikman 1st overall and THEN turned around and used their next year first round pick to take Steve Walsh in the 1st round of the supplemental draft that same year. Aikman beat Walsh out and the Cowboys ending up flipping Walsh to the Saints for a 1st and 3rd so they lucked out in the end. To your point not the recommended approach - Aikman talks about how the pick of Walsh (who had been Jimmy Jones QB at U of Miami the previous year) really set back the development of the relationship Aikman had with Jones and the Cowboys coaching staff.
