  1. My first reaction to seeing Darrell Bevell's name is "please no". I know Seahawks fans complained about him a lot. He called the play to throw it at the goal line instead of giving it to lynch in the super bowl. I think his track record is pretty meh, but he has a lot of experience. John Fox has been either HC/DC for awhile. Very experienced. Brought the gmen to super bowl 35 as DC and was HC in 2 super bowls w car and den. Overall winning record. He is 68 years old. Currently with Detroit, he could be a great candidate IMO to come over as DC and help Johnson learn the ropes as HC. Anthony Lynn was very well regarded, but his chargers HC tenure didn't help much. Lost a lot of close, winnable games. Worked with Johnson in Det and peters in SF. Would be a good OC hire imo. Kacy Rodgers was DC for the jets for 4 years and has been coaching in NFL since 2003. Won a ring in Tampa as DL coach. Currently co-DC. We all know Fraley is going to get some consideration.
  2. But then we would be in the same asset allocation mess we just got out of. Sign one, draft another, and let Henry and Jones try to win the other spot.
  3. I don't think it would actually happen, hence the .1% chance estimation. For both aspects you mentioned: BB doesn't want to work under another HC, especially one as green as Johnson. And on the flip side, do we actually want that due to the potential of BBs arrogance and stubbornness creating problems. Harris said this is such an important decision for him as owner, I don't see him bringing in a strong personality that could become disgruntled. Especially after toxic tenure after toxic tenure here, and trying to establish a new culture. However, I do think it will be VERY painful for BB to not be coaching this season. He probably won't know what to do with himself, considering he knows he isn't ready to retire bc the record is so close. And money talks. From Harris perspective, the man knows his Xs and Os, and how a championship team prepares and conducts itself. Ok, maybe .01% chance.
  4. Falcons brass wants to know how the fanbase is responding to the hire, and they see "I yearn for the sweet release of death". 😂
  5. If Seattle doesn't hire BB, and it looks like BB won't have a HC job this season, what is he going to do? He isn't going to the college ranks. He could become an analyst like Sean Payton did, but I don't see him wanting to be a member of the media that he seems to loathe. You know he wants to be a HC again to get that record, so he probably wants to stay active in the league. At one of his last pressers with the pats, he stressed how much he loves prepping a team and game planning etc (probably as a hint to owners that he would be open to not having personnel control, but that didn't seem to work). So, in order to continue to do what he loves, and stay in the league, if Harris were to pay him handsomely... BB as DC? Sounds nuts, and highly unlikely, but maybe a possibility? .1% chance? As Lloyd Christmas once said, "so you're telling me there's a chance!" BB would be an invaluable mentor to Ben Johnson as he learns the ropes as a head coach. He would be worth a record breaking coordinator salary.
  6. I stand corrected. Thank you! Regarding head coaching jobs, teams must conduct an in-person interview with at least two external candidates who are people of color and/or women. Virtual interviews don't satisfy Rooney Rule requirements, per the NFL. https://www.google.com/amp/s/theathletic.com/5191174/2024/01/10/nfl-coach-interview-rules/%3famp=1 I think Morris was in person and weaver virtual, while both gms were in person I believe. So I think with 1 more in person HC interview, we are good.
  7. Agreed, I think we have a number of signings when all is said and done. We will have a lot of roster turnover. I just hope we prioritize LT and LB in FA, due to need and I think a proven vet in those positions is crucial. Those are the positions to be aggressive imo.
  8. You have to carry Cheeseman on your 53 man roster for 5 years. What is the penalty for violating the Rooney Rule? When the Rooney Rule was originally implemented, it was said to come with penalties ranging from fines to a loss of draft picks. In the two decades since, the Detroit Lions are the only team to receive any sort of penalty -- a $200,000 fine and no loss of draft picks. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcsportsphiladelphia.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/how-effective-is-the-nfls-rooney-rule-and-why-does-it-exist/367068/%3famp=1 If you are concerned about us, we have already interviewed weaver and morris for hc, and cook and Cunningham for GM, so we are good.
  9. Just look at that handsome devil. So excited for the future with competence at the top. Rock bottom lasted for a long time but we are starting our ascent.
  10. I don't see many big signings early in Free agency even though we have the cap room for it, reflected in Peter's remark "we will build through the draft". I'm ok with that, I have always felt the early big money signings are poor value over time. With 6 picks in the top 105, we can fill some of these holes with draftees, but 2 positions stand out to me as needing to be addressed in FA with significant $$: LT and LB. To protect the new QB, and address the LB void we have ignored for years. I don't know if they even hit free agency, but LT Tyron Smith and LBs Devin White or Patrick Queen would be great additions (depending on scheme fit with new DC). I know there are others, but those names stick out to me. If LT and LB were filled with a good FA, and then Peter's does his thing during the draft (assuming a top QB as part of the draft class), then I will be ecstatic. WRs, and guys like McKinney and Moore, while talented, would be much less exciting for me than LT / LB.
  11. Caleb has declared! To go in knowing we are getting either him or maye is awesome.
  12. Me too, until I realized their pro bowlers are elite at their position, and ours are probably half special teamers. Just not long snapper.
  13. Just say no to Bill. Great coach, but how many years does he have left? His recent offenses in New England have been abysmal and a large part of that is he had a defensive coordinator running his offense for a year while trying to develop a young QB. I'd rather have a better support system for our young QB. Let him get his record elsewhere.
  14. My first thought was would one of the NFL hot candidates pursue that. Doesn't usually flow that direction, but bama is bama. And the cupboard isn't bare at bama, for now anyway. Since I typed that last sentence, 83 bama players have entered the portal.
  15. I'm ok with playing the NFC South, not so much the AFC North. But next year will be fun to watch regardless. There will be a lot of exciting changes to see and the pressure to win won't be significant (yet).
  16. New scheme. Slowik is a shanahan disciple aka zone runs. "Pierce was a power back, and the Texans, under then-offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton ran a power-running gap scheme that accentuated Pierce's strengths as an inside runner." https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-sports-nation/texans/article/texans-running-back-dameon-pierce-slow-start-18424792.php
  17. I haven't heard Andy Weidl's name connected to any opening, I'm hoping they bring him in too. Including him with those names would make me feel confident that even if they're first or second choice doesn't come here, we would still land a great GM. But still a great group as is.
  18. This season was the hours long wait for the prime attraction roller coaster, in hot weather with irritated kids, and today is the moment the metal gate opens and you can climb in the seat.
