Can you explain the 2y 28mil? if they pick up his 5th year option he plays at 17mil in 2024 and if he plays well they will have to pay him or franchise him in 25
-
At this point expecting a 15 sack season for CY is ludicrous. If anything his value will go down after this season...even if he has a pretty good season by his standards (8-10 sacks) at that point Wash can decide if he is worth it but his expected salary will be 15-20mil per year... so it makes zero sense to guarantee him 17mil now, to possibly save a couple of mil. Plus you have the option to trade him at that point. It makes more sense to sign Sweat as he has been the more consistent and healthy player so far.

We can nitpick games all day.. and career stats actually mean everything everywhere (apparently except for this forum) because career stats give you average performance over time, not one game one offs. Minshew played two games last year - one vs saints who have one of the best Ds in the NFL where he struggled and one vs Dal where he actually played ok. Brissett also looked awful in games against ATl, NE, Car Never hid my dislike for the roster building capabilities of this FO, they seem to work in reactionary manner with no strategic foresight. They tried to sign Heiniki for 5mil per year(to save cap), and when he chose a higher offer from Atl, they panicked and signed Brissett for 8-10mil for one year(when it seemed like no other team was willing to pay him that). While Minshew (who i think is better than Heiniki) could have been had for much less and i would argue provides the same level of QB play as a backup. Its not like either guy will take us anywhere if Howell bombs anyway.

CMP ATT CMP% YDS AVG TD INT LNG RTG 586 933 62.8 6,632 7.1 44 15 78 93.1 963 1577 61.1 10,350 6.6 48 23 80 84.4 Career stats for both QB... guess which ones are for who? First of all you dont know how many teams were "in on Brissett".. just rumors. Multiple teams were in on Russel Wilson too and this FO has repeatedly shown its incompetence when it comes to QB decisions. I for one think Minshew would have been a pretty good backup option here and at half the price would have been a no brainer... for most NFL FOs anyway. haha... you give this FO WAY too much credit.

The play here is to tag and trade Payne this year. Washington will absolutely get a pic, and the new team can work out a longer contract. Once they tag him they can just sit and wait for a team to come to with a great offer or wait for a DT to get hurt next preseason. Worst case Payne plays one more year here and then we get a 3rd comp pick in 24 - thats not a bad scenario as your last option. Of course I expect our ****ty FO to screw this up completely.

let me break it down a bit more since you're not too quick on the uptake.... Brady left on his own, he didnt want to stay in NE so he is not part of this discussion Stafford was on a really bad team with no supporting personal... and i wasnt arguing against vet acquisitions sparky.. i was arguing against trading for vets that failed on other teams. Stafford was the lone bright spot on the Lions for close to a decade Carr has played on a team with good O line, great O weapons and great running game this year... and only got 6 wins Has been to the playoffs once in his whole career, had one winning season and now has two coaches that want to get rid of him.... but sure lets get another half-assed qb for all the money and watch him get us to 9 wins. -

I remember one was a FA that didnt want to stay on his current team even though they tried to resign him (Brady), and the other was a Legit good vet qb with a big contract on a rebuilding team that was trying to get younger... so my point stands -

After seeing big QBs repeatedly fail after switching teams last year (Wentz, Ryan, Wilson, mayfield) after being dumped by their previous teams, its mind numbing how many Wash fans want Carr.... Especially with a high end contract. Its really common sense.. if the team is trying to get rid of a supposed franchise QB = something is wrong with him. Wash fans have the abused wife syndrome.. "well there was that one day he played pretty well, he is still good!" Mind my words.. who ever trades for Carr, will regret it. -
I don't agree... Rivera is operating as him being back next year (as he should). But that does not mean that when then new owner comes in, he wont fire the HC. That has happened many times in other franchises. If Snyder does not sell this year (other than cutting my veins with a plastic spork) he will also most likely keep Rivera
-
Hopefully Rivera is next... clean house!

I disagree... I think Jones is an above average QB on a below average offense. Reality is that he might be even better that that... he just hasnt had much to work with. I was advocating on trading for him on the cheap last year but the cat is out of the bag now. With the poor state of qb playin the nfl he will get paid this off season (even if by the Giants so i am ok with it)
-
no, they never even put in a claim on Mayfield. Rams were the only team that did.
-
he started a 7th rd rookie and didnt even try to bring in competition. Having that kind of faith in your qb is beyond just next man up. Yes, SF O-line is better but its not like Howell is not mobile. I am half joking anyway.... just irritated that the only place we are going with Heini is out of any decent pick for a franchise QB next year.
-
So you're telling a 7th rd pick in SF can come in and look more than competent at QB, yet there is no possible way our 5th rd QB with much better pedigree can come in and add some life to this passing game? I call BS. Granted Shanahan is a muuuuch better coach than anything we have here... but cmon.. Washington isnt going very deep in the playoffs if it cant put up more than 20 points a game.
-
Quit/ fired whatever... he needs to go 1. below average record 2. old school/ ineffective mentality to roster building and coaching 3. Too many misses on high profile FAs time for a change - new owner, GM, coach - we dont need a blow up and rebuild but we do need fresh ideas, QB, and better FA acquisition record
