Wow, good for him.

I love how they simultaneously complain about mods enforcing rules and also throw up their hands and claim civil political conversations aren't possible.

That might actually be safer than staying in it.

I know techboy's real name so I searched for him a while back, and sadly it turns out he passed away unexpectedly. He was a great source of wisdom here on ES, a generous friend, a bold world traveler, and a caring husband. He will be sorely missed.

The Random Thought Thread Vol 2---Read OP For Thread Rules
dfitzo53 replied to Jumbo's topic in The Tailgate
Somebody gave me a pie dish as a gift once with a recipe for spaghetti pie. The recipe was like, "It's a great way to use up leftover spaghetti!" When has eating leftover spaghetti ever been a problem? -

Sweet, we've also got a rib roast dry brining.

I'm in the same boat essentially.

It means I would need a lot more information before I care. The article says readings include, and then a few short, disconnected quotes. Doesn't a good history course include quotes from some very unpleasant writings by Hitler or southern slave-owners, for example? I'm not inclined to put much stock in a piece that draws heavily on out-of-context information from an organization that is acting purposefully to undermine public schooling. If you'd like to find the actual text the students are suppsed to read and see if it changes my mind, feel free. Otherwise I'll refrain from breathlessly chasing down every transparent attempt to cast doubt on the integrity of public schools. This article plays all the hits: * Highlight one teacher who may or may not be representative, bonus points that she's of middle-eastern descent * Invoke the California bogeyman * Play the "What if liberals are the real racists?" card conservatives are so fond of

The article relies heavily on information from a Koch-affiliated astroturf movement, unsurprisingly. https://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/Parents_Defending_Education
