  1. Yeah that was lackluster. Purdue didn't look great, but UConn is absolutely dominant.
  2. Only if they stop making all these stupid mistakes.
  3. With the eclipse being during school hours I had a minor bout of parental worry that my kids were going to come home with hurt eyes, but they used their eclipse glasses and had a great time.
  4. I think it has promise. I love the games but I'm not invested in the show. I'll watch it and hope it's good, and if not no big deal. (I never watched The Witcher, Game of Thrones, etc. Just not a big TV guy.) Side note, who's playing Helldivers? Game is fun as heck.
  5. Yeah I don't feel good about Purdue's chances, I'm just happy they made it to the finals.
  6. The question I always come back to is, if you were re-designing our country's government from scratch today, would you include something like the electoral college? If so, why? My suspicion is that even most people who defend the electoral college would say no, but I don't know for sure. There isn't much modern logic that supports it.
  7. That is the main change I've made in my habits. (Not really quit beer per se, but I don't keep it in the house, I just drink it on social occasions if I actually feel like I want one.) I'm losing about 5 pounds a month on that alone, partly because of the reduction in calories, and partly because of all the downstream effects like less uncontrolled snacking and more energy/better sleep.
  8. @Destino In your opinion, what should schools be doing?
  9. I dunno, I don't see them being all that close, but it's an easy/good change to make to avoid any problems.
  10. OK, this part I certainly agree with. Somehow I didn't get that angle from what you were saying before.
  11. You are making well above the household median income and you don't have kids. It stands to reason that you feel very comfortable with your finances. I'm not sure what you mean by "a very large portion of America" as I can imagine a lot of reasonable interpretations of that phrase, but I think you have to recognize there are going to be plenty of people whose financial outlook is different than yours even if they're being responsible with their money.
  12. All of these lists are stupid. There are dozens of other factors in your life (whether you're able to form some local friendships, having a job you're reasonably happy with, etc) that have way more impact on your quality of life than the exact town you live in. Also, there's no material difference between the top n towns in the United States. I've spent a decent amount of time in Carmel, IN. If that's the second best place to be in this country let's all just give up now. (Don't worry, it's not.)
  13. Seconding Curacao. Our honeymoon was there and it was fantastic. Relatively unusual landscape for the Caribbean and they have a great nature preserve there too.
  14. My son (like 6 at the time) beat it well before I did. Partly because I got busy with other games, and partly because he had zero qualms about watching YouTube videos to figure out what he needed to know. He even absolutely blasted me one day. He was like, "Hey dad, did you ever think about the fact that I'm just a kid and I've beat this game multiple times and you haven't beaten it at all? Want some help with it?"
  15. Kind of doesn't matter what you think though, does it? (Not being mean, just making a statement of fact.) "Ard" will catch on or not regardless what you think of it. My guess is it won't be a thing long-term, the same way most grown ups don't actually text things like "c u l8r sk8r" to each other.
  16. Pretty sure there are hobbits and elves there, but if you don't mind that it looks like a beautiful place.
  17. Pretty sure it's an even shorter version of "a'ight".
  18. Yeah I remember flirting with anarchist and/or libertarian ideas in high school, as many teens do. A teacher I really respected (and who I kind of thought held similar beliefs) was like, "Yeah, but what if you need a hospital or something?" That was pretty much the end of that.
  19. Just a couple years before the city burned down. So sad.
  20. Same March weather as every year. I don't get why you can't grasp this. You seem genuinely shocked every time the real weather does not match the made up fantasy DC climate in your head.
  21. Sounds to me like they asked if he was carrying a gun and he showed them.
