  3. I want to live long enough to get a 100 year patch
  4. My gut feeling is a lot of folks are going to be surprised about how the D line does this year. Another OTA's, training camp and preseason learning the system better. A lot of problems last year could be attributed to lack of communication, in the secondary and safeties. The QB didn't have to hesitate long because someone was always coming open. Right now it looks like the secondary is fixed, the linebackers are more experienced in the system and that will help with the run defense. Last year it seemed like Dline players were going down every week and someone else was plugged in to replace them. With luck that won't happen as often this year. Our run defense was good the first couple of games last year then the injuries began to mount. Every year it takes a bit of luck, look at the Cowboys all set to go to the Superbowl (per ESPN) then Tony Romo goes kaboom. Rookie QB on deck. This year I promise I'm going to sit back and enjoy the games, I'm NOT going to throw my shoe thru the 60" Dual processor TV like last year. I'm NOT going to scream and pull my hair out, That bald spot is self made. I'm going to be calm and collected even if the #&$^ Dline sucks. Honest.
  5. The coaches and McCloughan are seeing something in Jones that I guess we aren't seeing. They have spent a lot of time coaching him on the proper methods of holding the ball to keep from fumbling and a lot of reps with the first team. I figure they are a lot smarter then I am when it comes to football, so I'm willing to wait and see how it comes out. Having Kelly and/or Brown as a back up plan isn't a bad idea.
  6. Remember one thing about this game with Brown's running, that one 60 yard scamper inflated his stats. With out that run, and it was nice but it really makes his stats look a lot different. Take away that one run and you have. Brown 18 carries for 89 yards Kelly 16 carries for 99 yards. I'm not trying to diminish his run for 60 yards, it was great, he made a lot of guys miss then just took off outrunning a lot of defenders. To be honest I was surprised at his speed, he is for sure a good mudder Adding up their totals over the preseason gives you Kelly 38 carries for 198 yards Brown 39 carries for 227 yards (with the 60 yard run) Pretty close, the next thing you need to look at is pass blocking, Kelly is much better at this than Brown. I didn't attend TC this year so I'm only going on what I've seen during the preseason and I saw a couple of really good blocks by Kelly, I admit he did miss one that almost got our QB sacked, but both are rookies and you expect them to be in a learning curve. Here I think Kelly learns a bit faster or is more talented at blocking, not sure which. Both are tough runners and made some defensive players miss, and it looked like it took more than 1 to bring them down. I counted 3 guys trying to bring Brown down and he didn't hit the ground until the 4th defender got there. One tough cookie. I didn't watch Kelly as closely as I watched Brown because he has just made that 60 yard run and he really peeked my interest. The few carries I did watch Kelly he made yards after contact. I would love to see both make the 53, but if I had to pick one I'd take Kelly because he seems to be more advanced at this point. If I really had to make that choice I'd use a coin and that may be the method that the FO and coaches come to.
  7. One thing I noticed last night was Brown wasn't taken down by the first person to hit him, I counted on one carry, it took 4 guys to get him down. Really looked good against the Bucs, however he and Kelly were playing against 2nd and 3rd rank players. Was our OL 2nd and 3rds that much better than the Bucs? It is a good thing when your backups that probably are not going to make the team are so much more advanced that the other team. Think about it these guys are backup level or maybe not even going to make this team. Yesterday was a ground game day, what we used to call "Redskins Weather." Something at bothered me was practicing in a bubble, how would the team hold up in really cruddy weather, I think this game answered that question. Who do we keep? Man that is a hard question, both Kelly and Brown really looked good last night. Finding holes and exploiting them. At this point having seen 2 games in person I'm going to have to go with Kelly. No reason just a gut feeling watching both of them play.
  8. I may need it have a life raft in the truck
  9. Tampa Bay, FL - Welcome to the #9 Bowl, no its not named after Sonny but tropical depression #9. I'm Hap Haszard and I'm covering the game from the pressbox, due to the change of schedule, our fearless leader TK could not make it to cover the sidelines. I arrived at the team hotel around 12:45, and from some of the bands of rain felt I was lucky to have made it that soon, Orlando was totally awash, the rest of the way it was bands of heavy rain then slacking off repeated until I reached the hotel, it was raining and windy when I arrived. While I was in the hotel lobby waiting for the team to arrive, I got to sit and talk with Jay Gruden's parents, a very delightful couple. The team was scheduled to arrive around 2 pm but it was 3 before they arrived. Once Jay arrived I left since I didn't want to intrude on their reunion. A shaky out of focus picture of my credentials HapExtremeskins ‏@HapHaszard 2h2 hours ago Just picked up my credentials [/] The field is covered and probably will be fairly good for the first quarter. I haven't had a chance to go down and check it out yet. I have a sideline pass so will go down during warmups and try and get some pictures from my fancy flip phone HapExtremeskins ‏@HapHaszard 33m33 minutes ago Field well protected I just located my seat in the press box, I'm in the very first row right at the window, last time I was in row 3 over so far I could barely see the field. Really nice to sit with the big boys. Brian McNally beside me, and the missing TK on the other side. HapExtremeskins ‏@HapHaszard New Video Board at Raymond James Stadium The are removing the tarp from the field now. I think the caterers here at Raymond James produce the best media meal I have had at any stadium. Tonight I went thru the Brisket line then back to the submarine line in honor of the weather. I even ate an extra cookie for TK, and it was good. HapExtremeskins ‏@HapHaszard 22m22 minutes ago Time for a little refreshment Please excuse the fuzzy pictures but these darn flip phones are hard to hold steady especially at my age. They have removed the tarps from the field, several Bucs out throwing the ball around no sign of the Redskins yet. Heading down to the field for a quick look around. Back from the field from up here it doesn't look like its raining but down on the field its coming down pretty steady just a solid drizzle no frog stranglers like in the DMV. A couple of redskins slowly coming out on the field. Dustin Hopkins is doing wind sprints for some odd reason since he is all by himself. ANNOUNCEMENT OF LINEUP CHANGES TAMPA, Fla. – The following members of the Washington Redskins did not travel with the team and will not play this evening: - No. 8 QB Kirk Cousins - No. 11 WR DeSean Jackson - No. 20 CB Greg Toler - No. 23 S DeAngelo Hall - No. 24 CB Josh Norman - No. 25 RB Chris Thompson - No. 26 CB Bashaud Breeland - No. 30 S David Bruton Jr. - No. 31 RB Matt Jones - No. 51 LB Will Compton - No. 54 LB Mason Foster - No. 61 G Spencer Long - No. 64 NT Kedric Golston - No. 71 T Trent Williams - No. 73 DE Ziggy Hood - No. 75 G Brandon Scherff - No. 76 T Morgan Moses - No. 77 G Shawn Lauvao - No. 78 C Kory Lichtensteiger - No. 80 WR Jamison Crowder . - No. 86 TE Jordan Reed - No. 88 WR Pierre Garçon - No. 91 LB Ryan Kerrigan - No. 92 DE Chris Baker - No. 94 LB Preston Smith A lot more Redskins are on the field, Mostly seeing Tress Way and Hopkins kicking the ball around couple guys chasing the ball, the rest are playing catch. Redskins doing passing drills at the moment. Linemen doing drills blocking view of passing drills Redskins done with drills and warmups headed back to the locker room, Bucs still on the field A couple of sideline shots The flaggettes and cheerleaders making a cheering line for the Bucs players coming out from the dressing room Pardon me I'm standing for the National Anthem FIRST QUARTER Tampa won the toss elects to kick off Redskins first series at 25 yl (touchback) Kelly 2 runs for first down. 2 more plays first down Running game is kicking butt Line giving them big holes I jinxed them 4th and 1 at 29 FG Hopkins Bucs first series 25 yl (touchback) run gain of 1 run gain of 4 deep pass incomplete punt Redskins 2nd series Big run on first play then they went backwards sack loss of down on penalty Redskins punt Bucs second series Pass good, for 1 yd, personal foul Redskins 15 yards run for 1 fumble on sack loss of 24 Punt Redskins 3rd series pass complete 3 yards Run for 3 incomplete pass Punt Bucks 3rd series run gain of 1 run no gain end of first Quarter It appears that our run game is much stronger than the Bucs can handle, our Defense seems to be able to stop their run game fairly easy. Sudfeld's timing looks off on his passes. Have to see if he settles down in the 2nd Quarter. FIRST DOWNS Redskins 4 Bucs 1 NET YARDS Redskins 73 Bucs -3 SECOND QUARTER Mack Brown 60 yard run for TD Redskins really working on causing fumbles, going for the ball in gang tackles Redskins FG 23 yard set up by Ihenichao interception 13-0 Redskins Looks like for today at least Ross has punt return duties Mac Brown is getting big chunks of yards on his carries. Making the most of his chances Bates and Wakefield getting some penetration into the Bucs backfield just looking at the vast crowd of fans in the stands they actually may have more in the stands than the support people for the game Rough half time stats not official Redskins rushing 188 yards TB 11 Redskins passing -1 net yards TB 33 Brown 12 carries for 130 yards Kelly 11 carries for 58 yards THIRD QUARTER Tampa on their first series got some moxie and drove to the Redskins 32 before they were stopped, a 50 yard field goal gives the Bucs their first score of the game now 13-3 Redskins Thorpe took a short pass and was pushed out of bounds 41 yards later. 11 yard run by Kelly then a false start penalty Kelly is hard to bring down takes more than one person. TD by Ross Redskins now at 215 Rushing yards and 60 passing yards. Sloppy play by both teams ends the 3rd Quarter Redskins 276 yards total to 69 yards for TB Redskins 233 yards rushing to 26 for TB FOURTH QUARTER Mac Brown really really wants to play on the 53, he has done everything he can to get there this game. End of the 3rd quarter he had 14 carries for 134 yards with a 9.6 yard average. Wow... Kelly has 16 carries for 99 yards. The Bucs have a nice series going nice combo of pass and run moving the sticks Bucs 3rd or possibly 2nd string QB look a lot more polished than Sudfeld nice passing game all of a sudden. Lousy tackling by Redskins Bucs QB ran around for 5 minutes in backfield 3 Redskins linemen had a shot at him but all missed. I'd tell you who they were but I was laughing so hard I didn't bother looking. TB FG, after that nice drive that's all they got. 20-6 REDSKINS Just took 4 guys to take down Mac Brown Bucs another nice drive going, 1:59 sec to go at Redskins 38 off sides penalty give Bucs first down at 33 TD Bucs 20 - 13 Redskins Bucs onside kick goes out of bounds Redskins ball on 49 yl 2 knees and that is the old ball game folks don't forget your hat on the way out

A few facts after some sleep First downs Redskins 14 Atlanta 17 3rd down efficiency Redskins 5 - 15 33% Atlanta 2 - 10 20% Ave gain Rushing Redskins 3.3 Atlanta 2.8 Note: This stat surprises me I thought that Atlanta out ran us however both teams had 79 total yards rushing. Net yards passing Redskins 155 Atlanta 280. Red Zone Efficiency Redskins 2-2 100% Atlanta 1-3 33%
  15. Atlanta GA-. Welcome to the Extremeskins coverage of the first preseason game and the beginning of the season. I'm Hap Haszard in the press box and Zoony will be covering the sidelines. A few of the players are on the field warming up and stretching Falcons on one end and Redskins on the other. Great view of the field from the press box, much better than Fedex or TampaBay which are the other stadiums I've been at. You would have to pay good money for these seats. A few warm-up pictures Redskins are wearing white jerseys and gold pants, Falcons red jersey and white pants. 12 minutes until game time and the stands are flat empty. And the Redskins are taking the field faint boos are heard, from the few Atlanta fans here. Redskins first team moving the ball well. Big run but holding penalty caused 1st and 20. Redskins first series resulted in a 54 yard punt to Falcons 1. Redskins D held Atlanta to 3 yards on 3 plays, Atlanta punts and McCoy is in for Washington's second series. Second series, Redskins 41 yard FG by Hopkins. Redskins kickoff resulted in a touchback, Atlanta's ball at the 25 yard line. Atlanta's second possession was -1 yards, Defense is balling. Washington starts 3rd series at the 28 yard line. Run game still needs a lot of work, 3 and out for Washington Atlanta's 3rd series 2 first downs. End of the first quarter. Redskins 3 Atlanta 0 2nd quarter 47 yard pass to Washington 12 Run of 10 yards to Redskins 2 ylard line. False start 1st and goal from 7 now 3rd and goal from the 11. Defensive penalty 5 yards to 6 yard line, incomplete pass, FG Atlanta. Tied at 3. Washington's first series 2nd half - McCoy at QB - 3rd down and 5 - McCoy runs for 8 to get a first down. Washington's run game needs a lot of work. False start on the Redskins, 2nd down 16, 3rd down and 11, 4th down and punt. Huge pass by Atlanta 68 yards first down Washington 4, run to foot line, TD Atlanta 10 -3 3 and out for Redskins after a nice return by Thorpe. Atlanta is marching down the field against the Redskins D. Cravens stopped a run in the backfield. He is having a good game. Despite penalties, Atlanta converts a 42 yard FG to make it 13 - 3 at the half. Halftime The Redskins played decent defense during the first quarter, but really stunk it up in the 2nd quarter. The offense really wasn't burning down the barn either. I know its preseason and all but it looks from here like there is a lot of work that needs to be done. Now its time for the guys who will be working at 7-11 in a month or so to show what they can do. Third Quarter And they just did kick return by Atlanta 101 yards its now 20-3, Hail. I know this is preseason, and the first team was only in for a series so I'm not upset over the play but there is going to have to be some work on penalties. They are causing a lot of problems. Sudfeld in at QB - first down for the Redskins. Run loss of 2, 2nd and 12. about a 40 yd pass dropped by Ross. 3rd and 12, incomplete 4th down. Punt time. 5 million yard punt actually 64 yards. Atlanta's either 3rd or 4th string QB is in now. Atlanta runs and Cravens stopped it in the back field for 5 yard loss. Pass to Redskins 42, pass to Redskins 17, run for 1 yard stopped by Trail. 4th and 11. 36 yard field goal is good. 23-3 Atlanta. Redskins are good running and passing to Atlanta 17. Run to 1. Flags everywhere on next play. Offset penalties replay first down at 2 foot line. TD Redskins Kelly. 23-10 The game on both both teams is getting sloppy. Cravens is really having a decent game but he is in against 3rd and 4th string players now. Redskins' roughing passer penalty gives Atlanta a first and 10. Atlanta has been going deep on the Redskins, this time it didn't work. 4th down. Delay of game by Atlanta. The Atlanta crowd is amusing themselves by doing the wave. Its a bit hard to do with so few in the stadium. Redskins punt out of bounds. Atlanta 1st at 30. End of the 3rd Quarter Atlanta 23 Redskins 10 Fumble Redskins recover at Atlanta 34. Play being reviewed. Confirmed to be a fumble. Redskins run for 3, run for first down, 3rd down incomplete pass. 4th down. Redskins going for it. Pass to Ross for 1st down. Zebra error, reset the play clock and try it again. Hey its preseason for them too. First down Redskins, Run gain of 5, Run gain of 2, Pass TD. Extra Point is good. 23-17 Things are getting so sloppy its not worth reporting on whats happening. I'll report scores if any happen. After a series of defensive penalties, Atlanta misses a field goal attempt. The Redskins take over and now the offense is producing their own penalties. 1 minute left in the game. Over all I would say the Redskins played a very sloppy game. Same penalties on multiple plays so I'm sure they can be corrected. I think I counted 5 lined up in the neutral zone by the D, that can be corrected. What worries me is the running game, I did not see much there. The secondary gave up some really long plays, not a couple but several. Check out ES's exclusive sideline photos from zoony HERE
