  1. He was perfect in Officer and a Gentleman.
  2. Hate to say it, but this family is the poster child for eugenics.
  3. McCain wanted to pick him as his running mate in 2008, and that jackass Bill Kristol told him there would be a riot at the RNC if he didn't pick a pro life Christian conservative, and pointed him instead to Sarah "Dan Quayle with tits" Palin.
  4. Apologies - Bad wording on my part. I should have said decided not to pursue charges, not dropped, as charges were not actually filed. And it was the election commission that chose not to press charges.
  5. Of the 4 criminal cases against Trump, it truly sucks ass that the only one that will go a jury before the election is also the only one where he will almost certainly be acquitted. We've already seen this play out with John Edwards. The statute if limitations already ran out on the crime Trump actually committed (falsifying business records), so the convoluted and unprecedented legal theory of claiming it was part of a federal conspiracy to defraud an election falls apart the minute he uses the Edwards defense - that the payment wasn't about votes but about keeping his wife from finding out. The other 3 cases are comically open and shut and should have gone to trial a year ago (or more). The NY one is the only one that is being driven purely by politics, and the inevitable acquittal means a gullible public will discount the other cases as a result.
  6. Russia has been propping up Syrian dictator Assad, who is an Alawite - a heterodox splinter group of Shia islam for whom Ibn Tawmiyyah (the medieval scholar who is the basis for salafist/jihadist ideology) issued a fatwa demanding their extermination. ISIS views holding territory in areas of Syria (I think Raqqah, but am going off memory) as essential to re-establishing the caliphate and bringing about the end of times.
  7. Contrary to GOP talking points, the problem with domestic oil prices is not that the government is preventing drilling; it's that the refining capacity built up in the 70s and 80s was for heavy sour crude, but since the fracking revolution we are pumping out light sweet crude. Oil companies can make more money exporting the light sweet, so domestic prices are still subject to global prices. Forget drill baby drill and come up with incentives for the big oil oligopoly to expand American refining capacity.
  8. As much as I hated the guy as an owner, he did have a reputation for generosity to charities.
  9. I know Wetzl's son was trying to get Snyder to give him back the rights to the logo after the name change, and Dannyboy refused.
  10. I don't have any sympathy for Daniels at all. She did this entirely to herself. She wanted the publicity to further her career. Yes, Trump is a scumbag, but she is not a victim.
  11. Ok Swiftie. I am not a Howell apologist. The simple facts are he's on a cheapass rookie deal, so it costs almost nothing to keep him as insurance. Our GM was part of a brain trust that traded 3 #1s to draft Trey Lance, so having a backup plan that's more than just one mediocre journeyman who is brittle af.
  12. Ok, so what about the 49ers drafting Brock Purdy after trading a king's ransom for Trey Lance and having traded for Garappolo? Packers drafting Aaron Rodgers when Favre was on the roster, and later trading up for Jordan Love when ARod was league MVP? Those ended up being franchise saving moves. The only difference nowadays is that you can't stash a guy on your roster for 6 or 7 years as insurance. Drake Maye is just as likely to be Mitch Trubisky as he is Justin Herbert. We haven't drafted a winning QB in the first round since 1937, and that's despite pissing away 7 first rounders in the last 25 years. I don't see Mariota as any kind of improvement over Howell, not to mention he won't stay healthy for more than 3 games a year. So, yeah, I would have preferred leaving Howell as a backup and picking a project on day 3.
  13. Frisbetyrian - the belief that when a frisbee is lost on a roof its soul goes up to doggie heaven.
  14. Also, if you think QB controversies are a disaster for a franchise, you must be either too young or not be a long time Redskins fan...We went to a SB in the midst of Sonny v Billy, and won a SB because Gibbs refused to trade Doug Williams despite him being the league's highest paid backup after Jay Schroeder set the franchise record for season yards ( which was only broken years later by Cousins). Gibbs switched out QBs going into the playoffs, which was quite controversial at the time.
  15. We hung on to the busted RG3 pick for too long, despite having "Kurt" on the roster. All the disasters with his contract and subsequent fiascos were the inevitable consequences of Brucifer Prince of Dimness running the show. If RG3 had been any good or Cousins not been starting material, there would have been no controversy. RG3 would have wound up as Colt McCoy's backup under Gruden until Colt gets hurt after 3 games, then RG3 goes 1-4 before getting hurt, and Gruden gets fired after year 2.
  16. The only back to back winning seasons during the entire Snyder era, and 2 trips to the playoffs ( we would not have made the playoffs in 2012 without him coming in for RGKnee).
  17. RG3 was a debacle, and would have been regardless. Fortunately we had Cousins as insurance when Bob turned out to be an injury prone diva who couldn't read a defense.
  18. Back in 2012 when it became obvious we had given away the farm to draft RG3, I started a thread that said we needed to draft 2 QBs. I was trashed and mocked endlessly by posters on this board, most of them using this same reasoning.... and I got to keep bumping the thread back on to the front page for the next several years. I don't care what talking heads think, we could just as easily be drafting the next Mitch Trubisky rather than the next Justin Herbert. Most likely we are getting something halfway between Trevor Lawrence and Daniel Jones. Throwing Howell away for a ham sandwich when he's on a rookie contract makes no sense unless we are drafting another project QB in the middle rounds
  19. @China, I just came into this thread to post that. Not looking good.
