Bacon
It's too late for Arrieta to be a smart deal. The Cubs flipped him into something good, but he's peaked. The reality is that he would have been our 4th best pitcher last year and he's going to want to get paid like an ace.
Riggo#44
People complain about FP, but I love his dry humor.
Bacon
What's wrong with our bullpen, exactly? With Madson and Doolittle, it's middle of the pack.

Idiots who live in the 1st half of last year. I'm surprised the 38 tweets about 1st round exits didn't follow.
Warhead36
Keep the Law Firm and maybe add one more lefty specialist. I don't love Solis or Perez.

Warhead36
This might be the last year of the window being open so lets go for it. I'd trade any prospect but Robles.

Bacon
Kintzler wasn't especially good last year, but he is better than a lot of what we have right now. I don't mind the signing.
Riggo#44
I like Kinzler in the 7th, who can also close. He had a 3.46 ERA, 3.93 FIP here. The main problem with a groundball pitcher is the right side of our defense is not exactly stellar. Treinen suffered from this, partially.

Riggo#44
But...but...Bob Nightengale said they were so taken aback by his demands they gave up. BRAVEONAWARPATH
Personally, I think we could recover from losing Bryce on the field (eventually) but it's more to it than that. Bryce's "IT" factor is irreplaceable. His swag. Basically the Lerners NEED to get this done...and they will. PS: Cubs fans are a ****y bunch. @DCGoldPants
I think there is a better than 33% chance they extend Bryce before next season. The wild stuff Boras said about him and his value to a franchise overall sounds crazy....but it's not that far off. He does put butts in seats and sells jerseys. He needs to be hurt or truly awful to not be an all-star. Pretty soon he's going to be the Captain of the team. Maybe even this year. I think they should just do it. Get a crazy expensive deal done. Lock him up for the next decade + and keep drafting/developing well.

He makes the team relevant for as long as he's around. DC loves him. Pairing him with Rendon and the Scherzer/Stransburg pitching duo (that is already locked up through at least 2020 (Stras has an opt out)) would make the team a perennial playoff team. @DCGoldPants
Harper has the intangibles that even Ovi never had when it comes to leading. He's is an active leader. He tries to fire up the other guys in the dugout. With Werth gone and Zimm being a more quiet lead by example guy. Harper has been in the league long enough now to take over that spot. Not sure who else has the personality to do it. Zimm? nope. Rendon? nope. Max is a Bulldog but Pitchers aren't team Captains. It's his team now. Overpay him. Don't get cute expecting some discount. Hell, put a C on his jersey for all I can. You're not going to get a player who dogs it. If his body holds up. You have a guy who is going to be great for a long time. CRobi21
Give Bryce the huge $ amount he wants. But stretch it over a looong multi yr deal. Make him a Nat for life.
BRAVEONAWARPATH
Now this is coming from the man who claimed the Nats had given up on re-signing/extending Bryce. That is until the report came out about the Nats meeting with Boras to discuss a contract.....
