In unrealted news, the Bush Office of Scientific Faith claimed that this data is "completely bogus", and stated that it was "left-wing lies" that the administration had been examining a list of "blue states" and their elevations.

Well, glad to see you've dropped the non-partisan act...

Awful crime rate, extremely high infectious disease rate, terrible job of getting its children through high school, etc, etc. Like I said, a nasty place.

I'm afraid you didn't expand at all. You've characterized an entire state with attributes that apply mostly to Miami.

And yes, Florida DOES do a terrible job getting its children through high school. Of course if you've gotten through high school and still can't read or write, who cares? At least you've got a good set of statistics indicating a high graduation rate.

Some people don't like to face the reality of their situation. Just like some people think its ok to drive while intoxicated. I completely understand.

I've asked you to enlighten me. So far you appear unable to do so.

I understand this. I live in Florida. In my city the crime rate is extremely low. Infectious diseases? Not sure I know the statistic there. But if it were "extremely high" I suspect I would know at least one person who lives in my city who has such a disease. Schools? Seminole County, which is where Oviedo is, has one of the highest school ratings in the state. In fact, within a stone's throw of my house there's an elementary school and a junior high school that both have "A" ratings. A high school is about to be built less than a mile away.

So just what "reality" am I not facing?

Or perhaps you've yet to learn that generalizations are the affliction of a mind incapable of intelligent thought.

Actually, you're wrong. You didnt ask me to enlighten you. You said expand. I did, you whined a bit, and didnt really have a worthwhile response. Your failure to deal with the reality of the situation in your state does not indicate an inability of any shape or form, I'm sorry to say. And to respond with a description of your own little corner of the state, and at that, with admittedly anecdotal representations simply reinforces the perception of your avoidance of reality.

My bad Kilmer. You're absolutely right of course.

Zen, my apologies. Please spread the word to everyone you know how "nasty" Florida is. In fact, they should take your word on it and never venture outside of Disney, Busch Gardens, or any other Florida attraction if they feel the urge to visit here.

How'd I do Kilmer?

Another global warming story:

Melting Glaciers Said Threatening Everest

Wed Nov 17, 1:35 AM ET Science - AP

LONDON - Melting glaciers caused by climate change pose an urgent threat to Mount Everest (news - web sites)'s unique environment, activists said Wednesday, launching a campaign to protect the Himalayan mountain range and the world's highest peak.

Lakes have swollen from runoff, and unless urgent action is taken, many lakes could burst, threatening the lives of thousands of people and destroying the environment, said the campaigners — a collection of mountaineers, Nepalese climbers and the Friends of the Earth (news - web sites), an environmental lobbying organization.

The group will present a petition Thursday asking in Paris asking UNESCO (news - web sites), the United Nation's cultural agency, to place Nepal's Everest National Park on its World Heritage in Danger List.

Friends of the Earth international climate spokeswoman Catherine Pearce said it would be the first time UNESCO's World Heritage Committee had been asked to consider sites endangered by climate change.

The environmentalists also said climate change threatens the coral reefs in Belize and glaciers in Peru, and will submit petitions to include them on the endangered list.

More than 700 sites are currently on the U.N. Environmental, Scientific and Cultural Organization's endangered list. Inclusion of the Everest park would commit UNESCO to assessing the risk to the area and developing "corrective measures" in conjunction with the government of Nepal.

The climate change problems in Nepal, Belize and Peru were caused by greenhouse gas emissions from industrialized countries, the group said, adding that it will ask the World Heritage Committee to press countries around the world to reduce the emissions.

Peter Roderick, director of Climate Justice Program, a London-based environmental group, said damage to glaciers and coral reefs had served as warning signs of the impact of climate change.

"The World Heritage Committee must urgently investigate these sites and ensure that everything necessary is done to maintain their world heritage status, to keep people safe and to pass them on intact to future generations," Roderick said.

British mountaineer Chris Bonnington said the Everest National Park had some of the finest mountain scenery in the world.

"Both the beauty of this magnificent area and the livelihoods of its inhabitants are threatened by global warming," Bonnington said.
