Skins fans will forever have their favorite players. Can you pick just 5 players from a large selection of Skins who earned your love through the years. Regardless of stats or what time era they represent, name your all-time top 5 favorite Redskins. Start your list with the fifth best, then count down to your number one.

Have fun, here's my list:

5. L. Arrington # 56

4. W. Marshall # 58

3. A. Monk # 81

2. D. Green # 28

1. J. Riggins # 44

I'm not gonna pick any of the obvious guys like Jurgy, Riggo, Darrel Green etc. This is for the forgotten ones...

1. Neil Olkewicz

No one gave him a chance. At a mere 5' 10 1/2" 218 lbs he was one of the toughest linebackers of his or any other era. The scouts said he was too small, too slow, and too weak. He was undrafted and unwanted by other teams. He came to the Skins as the equivalent of a walk on after graduating from the University of Maryland. The hope was that he MIGHT be a fair special teams player. Well, after the first day of training camp, when the "little bearded ****" hit everything that had the auddacity to come near him the Skins new they had something special. Olkie would man the middle for a decade and seemingly every year someone younger, faster and stronger would be designated to replace him. They all failed.

2. Joe Jacoby

The first time Gibbs met him he thought he was a free agent defensive lineman. Gibbs spent 15 minutes telling him how he could help the team. Jake just sat in silence and nodded his head in agreement. When Gibbs later found out he was an offensive lineman he wanted to cut him on the spot (they had drafted Grimm and Mark May that year and the last thing they needed was another rookie lineman). Luckily Bugel intervened on his behalf and the rest is Hog history.

3. Daryl Grant

The forgotten man of a d-line that included Dave Butz, Charles Mann and Dexter Manley. The big fella unselfishly clogged up the middle so that others were free to make big plays. Even his one moment of greatness was overshadowed by others. He ran a fumble in for a touchdown in the NFC Championship game after Dexter Manley's big hit against Danny White. But it's Dexter that everyone talks about. Just a great hard working, high character, guy who shunned the spotlight. He never gets the credit he deserves.

4. Otis Wonsley

Would have probly had trouble scoring his shoe size on a Wonderlic test, but he was all heart and courage and nasty. One of the best lead blockers in the game. Riggo, the Hogs and Donnie Warren got all of the acclaim, but it was the forgotten ones like Otis Wonsley who did the real dirty work-- picking up the blitz, chip blocking on LT, taking on a 260 pound linebacker so that Riggins could score the game winning td.

5. Raven Caldwell

Just for one play in the preseason of his rookie year. He was on the bubble and the Turk was breathing down his neck. He had to make the team and he needed to do something spectacular-- and boy did he ever!! Running down the field on kickoff coverage he's hit by another player and his helmet goes flying off into the air. Undetered a now crazed Caldwell proceeded to brutally tackle the ball carrier head first!! In the process he both cemented his place on the final roster and became the feature highlight in sportscasts from coast to coast. His career may have been marred by injury, bad luck, and missed tackles, but for one brief moment he exmplified everything that is best about our beloved sport.

This one's for the Raven Caldwells of the world...

These guys were all long-time Redskins that factor significantly in the team's all-time stats at their positions. But more importantly perhaps, these were the guys that made you enjoy watching the team even when the wins weren't coming along at as fast a clip as you would have hoped :)
