The Washington Nationals Thread: The Future is Near!

Hassell was supposed to have an elite hit tool, but his K rate is way too high for that to be true anymore. I think he's just one of those guys that was a pretty good prospect in low A and high A, but better competition exposes them.

Lipscomb's now had multiple hits in 5 of his last 6 games. His K rate is still the same as it has always been in the minors. Just north of 18%. Maybe it's too early to swap Lipscomb and Hassell in the farm rankings, but one of them is thriving when moved to better competition.

No doubt about it. Hassell’s season has been disappointing. I do try to remind myself that at 21, he’s close to 3 years younger than the average AA. Lipscomb, for comparison is in his age 23 season. Talk about Hassell making the OD 24 team was premature. Let’s see how he does next year repeating AA after an offseason at full strength.

But yeah, Lipscomb is a very exciting development. Especially if he shows well at 2B.

House is having an outstanding year. But they have been very careful managing his workload with his back. Having a guy like Lipscomb who can bounce around the IF and give House necessary rest will be a big plus.

do yinz see why I wasn't pleased by the 3 of 4 to the Mets? Because the Mets have lost 3 straight and the Nats other than that series have routinely beat the Rangers, Giants and now the Reds. Those are good teams so "dey's gotz a better rkord" isn't a good excuse. Show up and play hard.

Armando Cruz had 4 hits today in the double header. If he can develop that hit tool, he can make it. He’s still on the young side for single A.

Morales had a double, triple, and got on base five times.

Fredericksburg has been on a tear since the drafted guys joined.

Joan Adon is making the start today. So they’ll need to send a reliever down. Williams has been away from the team because of a death in the family. With the off day on Thursday, they didn’t have to make this move. As Gore and Irvin’s innings add up, we may see for of Adon and Rutledge in September.

EDIT: Mason Thompson to the IL.

Damn!

Hell of an effort by Adon. Very impressive. For those who didn’t see, he was perfect for 5.2IP. Gave up two singles and a homer and ended up with 6IP and 3ER. Puts pressure on the org to give him another start. Don’t know if they will though.

Crews 0 for 2 today.

Crews, Pickney, Morales, and Susana all look really good.

Pickney has really quick wrists. He looks the part. If he develops, this could be their best draft class since returning to Washington.

Morales looks like he should move to 1B, but damn if he didn’t look like Machado going behind the bag in the 1st inning.
