It's good to be the Spurs. At this point, they could pick a janitor from Croatia and everyone would say "Great pick. The Spurs have done it again."

Having said that....that's a really good pick at #30.

I feel like everyone in the top five went to the wrong team except Parker. We need a four-team trade to straighten this out.

I posted something like, "The Spurs will pick their next All Star steal. My guess is it will be McGary, Jordan Adams, or Kyle Anderson."

Lo and behold it's Anderson. Couple thoughts,

1.) I now have total faith Anderson is going to be a great pro and make Doug Gottlieb look prescient for saying last year that Kyle Anderson is going to be a better pro than Shabazz Muhammad.

2.) It's going to be really interesting to see what the Spurs lineup looks like in two years, because Anderson is a positionless player that most naturally fits in at SF.

If it were any other franchise, I'd have doubts about making it work really well with both him and Leonard. But the Spurs will probably invent some interesting new way to play basketball and make it work. My guess is that both he and Kawhi will play SG, SF, and PF interchangeably and Anderson will run some point.

Granted, this is a comparison to a Hall of Famer so take it with a giant grain of salt....but Manu is a positionless player too. Aside from Parker, all the Spurs float between two and three positions depending on what the team needs in the moment.

BTW, I also love McGary going to OKC. Feels it should be obvious, but they draft really really well.

I also love Jordan Adams going to Memphis. They've become an excellent franchise.

As I posted before, I love Boston's draft.

I love Phoenix's draft. They're another great franchise that's going to get good fast. I wish they'd won the lottery and gotten Wiggins. They deserved it soooooo much more than Cleveland. Cleveland is the ****ing worst.

Julius Randle on the Lakers is fascinating. Kid was the #2 or #3 guy going into the year and he had a great season at Kentucky. He doesn't have an obvious NBA body, which is why he fell. But he plays like a star and has a ridiculous amount of face up and scoring talent for a 6'9 forward. I could easily see him averaging 25 & 10 for LA by his third year.

I love Doug McDermott on the Bulls. I think he makes them better whether or not they get Carmelo.

Edit - just hit me on what you were talking about.

There was a delay, but he didn't look happy at all, not even in his interview right afterward.

he looked happy in other images.

Sometimes you have to realize there is a delay and the first reaction YOU see isnt the real reaction.

Wiggins will be the star of this draft, but Nike Stauskas is an interesting pick. He reminds me of a taller but poor man' Steph Curry. I wonder if he will play PG there or what happens to McLemore. Stauskas is a guy I like a lot.

I dont get the ragging on the 76ers draft either.

Joel Embiid and Nerlens Noel are pure centers. I don't really like Philly's team as of today. They've got some parts that don't fit all that well. If I were them, I'd try and deal MCW and Nerlens Noel for something really good. I'd cash in on MCW winning ROTY.

Embiid can play further out. It works and defensively thats gonna be the best frontline in the NBA.

I think they are in total "asset acquisition mode" right now. I don't see any universe where Embiid and Noel are playing together, but I think they need to showcase them some in order to really get a deal for one of them - presumably Noel.

Randle's fall didn't make all that much sense to me. I thought we had moved beyond the "measurables above everything" era of the draft. The guy may not look like Blake Griffin but it's impossible to believe that he won't produce numbers.

Granted, falling to 7 is not that big of a tragedy but he was one of the Big 4 most of the college season and then dropped out quietly.

WTF!!!?!?!?!  Why in the blue hell would we help out the ****ing Miami Heat?

That's what I was thinking. Why would a team help out Riley try to keep Lebron.....in it own division? You know how bad Riley wants the kid drafted. I'd hold him up for a huge ransom.

Philly had a VERY good draft. I've heard a few experts that say the Sixers had the best draft.

In a vacuum, they had a tremendous draft if Embiid works out. But they're a team where all the assets aren't a natural fit together. They're a couple big trades away from getting to a finished product.

Also, they're going to be awful next year. Embiid isn't going to be good next season when he finally gets back. Figure another very high pick is headed their way. I think they might need to move that pick and MCW and Noel for good players to get the most value out of their assets. I don't like the way MCW regressed towards the end of last season, I'm not sure this awful roster situation in Philly is the place for him.

But LKB is right, Noel has to show something for Philly to be able to move him for something good. If he looks like the second coming of Joakim Noah, then you deal him to balance out the roster around Embiid. Philly can't get stuck in a Pistons or Jazz like situation where the roster is unbalanced and they struggle to find a way to make it work on the court and they end up losing and devaluing their assets as their play regresses from the team not having a way to play them in their natural positions.

I like Stauskas too. The problem is I don't like Sacramento. I think they played it safe with Stauskas. He's a guaranteed rotation player as a wing shooter with a little bit of handles. And judging by his comments in that Grantland video RA15 posted, you know Mike Malone was pushing for 3 ball shooters above all because he says Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins command a double team. Stauskas was probably his guy, that pick should have been predictable in hindsight.

My problem is with using Cousins and Gay as your foundation players. Who here thinks that's actually going to work out?

Sacramento got a role player to play around those guys and I don't like that at all. They needed to go for a franchise player IMO. They don't need to be messing around with Rudy Gay at all, and they can not rely on Cousins to be their leader and their franchise. They needed to cash in all these trade assets they've got and made sure they came away with a more reliable future franchise player like Wiggins/Parker/Smart IMO. I don't have confidence in their management.

On Embiid, I think it's a huge waste to try and play him further out as a PF when he has the potential to be an Hakeem-like C one day. If Embiid gets healthy, they need to deal Noel IMO. Or they're going to risk tanking the value of one of those guys just like Utah has tanked Derrick Favors's and Enes Kanter's value and Detroit has tanked Greg Monroe and Josh Smith's value.

Yeah, I actually think Randle should be happy with falling, because going to LA at seven seems way better than going to Philly or Orlando at 3 or 4. I agree, he's absolutely going to put up numbers for the Lakers. I really like him on that team.

I also really like Marcus Smart on Boston. He was a top three lock if he came out last season. Cleveland probably deals the pick and he could very well go first overall. I thought he could have made a big mistake going back because of how deep this year's class was. But dropping to #6 and ending up in Boston isn't bad at all.

They were probably pissed at the lottery results, but I think the Lakers and Celtics came out really well anyway.

Stauskas is not going to be a role player. HE is starting and has a higher ceiling than most people think.

I said Embiid can play further out, not that he will play the 4. I actually think Nerlens is more of a 4. Nerlens doesnt have center height and has been working on a faceup game the last year.

That's what I was thinking. No reason Noel couldn't play the 4. He's long enough and athletic enough.

Is he a foundation player though? Someone for Sacramento to build around? I see a starter, but I see a flawed player you don't build around as your foundation piece because he's got 0 chance of guarding an NBA position. Sacramento needs a franchise player to build around. And I think Marcus Smart is that kind of player and all they had to do was move up two spots to get him.

I don't think Nerlens is a 4 because he doesn't really have any NBA level offensive skill. He absolutely has center height though. He's a seven footer with a 9'2 standing reach and a 7'4 wingspan. Supposedly he grew last year too. He's a defensive specialist and rim protector. He might not have the bulk to play center yet, but that's his position. He's a Joakim Noah.

Stauskas is someone who will mesh w/ Cousins VERY well.  When the defense collapses on Boogie, he can rely on Stauskas' outside shooting.  On top of it all, Stauskas has no issue in creating his own shot.  He's a very good athlete.  Is he a foundational piece like Brad Beal?  No.  But is he a good second-fiddle/3rd piece to someone like Cousins or Gay?  You bet.
