Actually, I wonder just how many debates Obama will agree to in the fall? Incumbents don't like to debate much. A true Lincoln-Douglas style debate would be very educational and helpful. Neither candidate wants debates. (Well, I suppose, more accurately, no candidate wants debates unless they're losing.) It's a lot easier to lose a debate than to win one. (Just ask Rick Perry, for our latest example.) To answer your question, three seems to be the number that we've had, for years.
