RedskinsSuperBowl21
which is what we have both been saying for years, in the slot. i would also like to see him return punts again, unless banks can get some of his magic back.on another note, how sweet was that flea flicker? when we call plays that keep the defense guessing, we can move the ball They cant always be trick plays to keep the other team guessing. We just cant let our opponent expect us to give up on the run if the stop it the first couple of series. Kyle Shanahan has been predictable so far. pjfootballer
We took 2 RBs, 3 WRs, 1 OL, 2 DL, 2 LB, 2 DBs in last year's draft. Six offense and six defense. Pretty good balance. We did do more in free agency on defense than offense, although we made a couple of trades on offense.
Coolio47
Does anyone know where I can find video of the flea flicker? The internet stream froze right in the middle of the play and I never got a chance to see it.
RVAbrendan
The Redskins offense is: -Reliant on our Defense -Run first, Play-Action We get behind, we start throwing. Our receiving corps isn't talented enough (hopefully Hankie will be great), and our QB play is average at best.
Darth Tater
You are able to run because you are successful not the other way around. Most run heavy teams actually do most of their running at the end of games. Even during Gibbs 1.0, we often started the game looking for the quick strike (usually via the air which is why Joe Gibbs 1.0 teams were among the elite passing attacks) and if it hit it, we'd run. GoDeep81
To the OP's question. Basically, when ya give up 20 early points on 4 successive series, on top of loosing 3 of your offensive starters (including 2 lineman who play side by side) it greatly restricts what you can do on the rush, and makes most of what you do try very predictable.. I'd of liked to see some draws or WR screens (or something creative) from the OC to try and counter the problems we faced, but for whatever reason they didnt do it.. We put all our hope in Rex bailing us out with his arm (down field) and unfortunately it failed miserably.. Hopefully with a week to prepare they can come up something to try and relieve Beck from having to attempt the exact same thing.. Would love to see us find a run game with out banged up OL, but it's an uphill battle for sure..
Prototype
We should start Helu. He is clearly the most explosive option at RB, and runs the same 40 as Shady McCoy....
mi6
Our offense is offensive. We played okay in one game ... But, other than that the offense leaves a lot to be desired. 1/ Running Game: It's been inconsistent. Tim started with a bang, and then fizzled. Then came Torrain ... and, he faded. Need a consistent power runner, and a 3 rd down pass receiving RB. Helu needs to get more carries. 2/ Vertical Game: It's been non-existent. We need to get our speedy WRs into the mix. Austin, Hankerson, and Niles need to be on the field. All 3 are quick. And, 2 are big and physical. 3/ Red Zone Production: Argh! Can't settle for field goals. Time to find ways to score TDs! Prototype
Our Offense needs an explosive playmaker. No matter who you put in at QB, (Beck is by far the better option) we need someone who comes up big at any time, take it the distance, Leap and sky someone in triple coverage, etc. Let me go through a list of all teams and give you an example. AFC NORTH Baltimore Ravens: Ray Rice, Anquan Boldin, Lee Evans, Torrey Smith Cleveland Browns: Peyton Hillis, Massaquoi, Josh Cribbs Pittsburgh Steelers: Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown, Mendenhall, Hines Ward Cincinnati Bengals: AJ Green, Jerome Simpson, Cedric Benson. AFC EAST New England: Wes Welker, Branch, Arguably the Greatest QB of all time........ NY Jets: Tomlinson, Santonio Holmes, Plaxico Burress, Buffalo: Stevie Johnson, Fred Jackson, CJ Spiller Miami: Brandon Marshall, Reggie Bush, Davone Bess AFC South: Indianapolis: Manning, Wayne, Addai, Garcon, Houston: Foster, A Johnson, J Jones, Tate Tennessee: Chris Johnson, Kenny Britt, Mariani Jacksonville: Jones-Drew, Gabbert, Mike Thomas AFC WEST: Denver: Tim Tebow, Eddie Royal, D Thomas, Moreno Oakland: McFadden, Ford, Heyward-Bey, maybe Pryor one day San Diego: Rivers, V Jackson, R Matthews, Gates Kansas City: Jamal Charles, Dwayne Bowe, McCluster NFC NORTH Chicago: Hester, Forte, Knox, Cutler Green Bay: Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings, Jermichael Finley, Driver, Randall Cobb Detriot: Calvin Johnson Jr, Jahvid Best, Stafford, Titus Young Minnesota: Adrian Peterson, Percy Harvin NFC SOUTH Atlanta: Roddy White, Julio Jones, Michael Turner Carolina: Steve Smith, D Williams, Cam Newton New Orleans: Sproles, Brees, Henderson, Colston Tampa Bay: Freeman, Blount, Arrellious Benn, Mike Williams NFC WEST Seattle: Golden Tate, Sidney Rice, Forsett, Washington, Lynch Arizona: Wells, Fitzgerald San Fransisco: Crabtree, Braylon Edwards, Frank Gore, Ginn Jr St. Louis: Steven Jackson...... NFC EAST Dallas: Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Witten, Felix Jones New York: Bradshaw, Jacobs, Nicks, Cruz, Manningham Philadelphia: Vick, McCoy, Jackson, Maclin Washington: Moss? Helu? Armstrong? Most of these teams have more than one , and can count on production from these players. We, on the other hand, don't really have anyone consistent. Moss is on the downside, and doesn't get as much separation anymore, anyone who's been watching see he clearly has lost a step. Helu seems like the only option at RB, but Shanahan gives most of the carries to Torain and Hightower who are also very slow runners. The few who don't have much (St. Louis) are obviously on of the bottom teams in the league. We need to draft some Offensive EXPLOSION, that's when it can help out whoever we got at QB. ---------- Post added October-20th-2011 at 12:34 AM ---------- On a side note, remember when 'tana would take those screens passes to the house?
Seabee1973
This is dead on. Shanahan in Denver used the run to setup the pass with great success. Teams knew the run was coming w/ Terrell Davis and had to honor it. Sometimes they were able to stop it, other times they were not. Now, what the Broncos had is the one thing we don't have. Elway had an arm cannon, Grossman has a cap gun. That's the big difference. Elway was prone to throw alot of picks before Shanahan showed up, but the "run first, pass second" approach helped temper that. The problem is that no defense coordinator in his right mind sits up at night worrying about how to contain Rex Grossman: He's not mobile, has a weak arm, and is not terribly accurate. At least with Beck we add mobility and a stronger arm to the equation. My point here is that the Shanahan offense is structured around the "run first" approach and they have got to stick with it, whether it's immediately successful or not, especially given our QB situation. And I do agree that Kyle appears to want a "pass first" style of offense, but at some point he has to realize what we have and play to our current strengths. it varied week to week some weeks the rushing attack worked to set up the pass other weeks it was opposite
BucketHTTR
I think it has a lot to do with situation football. If we fall down 17-0 early like against the Eagles, then running the ball and grinding the clock is not a very smart game plan. I do believe though if Tim, and Helu or Torain get 20 carries in a game that we are in a good position to win the game
Enter Apotheosis
Our offensive line (up until the injuries) is better than it was last year, our RBs are better than they were last year, and we have a lot more young players waiting in the wings at all positions than we have in a long time. The playcalling has been pretty balanced, too, if you are capable of recognizing that the Eagles game was a bit of an aberration. There's very little reason to be genuinely upset with the coaching staff or direction of this team so far.

Every team loses a game or so, and sometimes it looks a lot worse then it is. For instance... The Buc's lost by the Niners by 40 points last week, but this week they beat the Saints. Things happen in the NFL. It's all about winning those games one at a time.
Skinzfever2010
Step away from the kool-aid This isn't about one loss being exaggerated people. The 2011 Washington Redskins are still a running team in a passing league. Our running game isn't anything special either. We also can't score points. Read my words again We can't score points Even the 1-4 Panthers score more than we do. The Eagles, who some people are trying to make out to be a good team now (cough.. cough... BANG) score more than we do. When its all set an down if we don't get the offense going in the right direction we will either be 3-13 4-12 5-11 Stamp that.
