Elessar78
We have a queen-size mattress purchased in 2004, so approx 6 years old. It's a good brand and good model—Sealy (IIRC). Anyway, wife was complaining that back and shoulder were hurting because of the bed and suggested we switched sides. I thought she was on drugs, but we switched sides and now my back and shoulder are hurting too (same way as hers did) and hers cleared up. So I'm assuming it's the bed. I tried new pillows last night, sleeping on my back. I can't see or feel anything wrong with the bed and how come it's only on one side of it? Any insight on this? TK
Sealy is NOT a good brand. Well known name, yes. Good quality bed, no.
rictus58
I just got a beautyrest NXG delivered yesterday. It's a great mattress. It's heavy. And expensive. But since I spend 8 hours a day on it, I didn't want to cheap out.
halter91
It should still be under warranty, although the bed companies will probably pull some crap like there is nothing wrong with it. I just got a Serta Lorena Memory foam and it's awesome. I'm still getting used to it since it's a memory foam but it's nice in the 3 months Ive had it. Way, way better than any Sealy or Serta. You will sleep like a baby on one of those puppies, the pocket coils mean that you won't wake each other up when you shift around, and you won't overheat (like some people do in a Tempur-pedic). Be careful, there is a large amount of price flexibility in mattresses. Even more than in used cars. You can always bargain a huge amount off the price if you try. You could try putting down a 3/4th of an inch plywood between your boxspring and matriss. That will firm up the matress and give you a couple of extra years out of the bed. Measure out the bed and have them cut the wood down at Home Depot.

You can always bargain a huge amount off the price if you try. This is true. We got an extra $300 off the "price" that was on the mattress at the store. Also, take halters advice. The mattress is probably still under warranty. If you paid by C/C, some types of C/C will also extent the warranty just by purchasing it on the card. TK
I Think its the 250. Queen size with 2000 coils. Very comfortable. Actually, it's not 2000 coils but rather a 2000 coil density as that's a coil on coil bed with a 6 inch foam encased side. Your actual coil count is 1650. The coil density is how many coils would actually fit that specific bed if it weren't foam encased. Still, it's a great bed & I know the company you got it from. Ned Flanders
You can definitely bargain them down on the mattresses. We went to Mattress Warehouse and bought a Simmons King Size, they were asking $2900 for the Mattress and Box Springs. We told them we'd think about it, and come back in a few days. We went back 2-3 weeks later, and I wound up haggling the price down to $1650 - and they were PISSED. BEST bed I have ever slept in! Worth every penny! Mickalino
You can save a lot of money on buying a new mattress, by buying a mattress topper instead. Sinomax makes a great memory foam topper, that is not only much cheaper than most alternatives, but it's one of the finest and healthiest brands. This stuff was originally designed by NASA. TK
You can save a lot of money on buying a new mattress, by buying a mattress topper instead. Sinomax makes a great memory foam topper, that is not only much cheaper than most alternatives, but it's one of the finest and healthiest brands. This stuff was originally designed by NASA. Where to begin? First, a topper really doesn't do anything for you. Your support comes from your innerspring. Not a topper. All a topper is going to is change the feel of what you have. Secondly, Visco Elastic memory foam wasn't designed by NASA. It was designed for NASA. However NASA dumped it because the cell structure is inconsistent. The formula was then released to the public where a couple of Swedish scientists refined it & developed Tempur Material or what you know know as Tempur-Pedic. Traditional memory foam is going to hold heat because it's not an open cell construction, therefore it's not going to breathe very easily.

stevenaa
Just thinking about a new bed. Is there any difference in the memory foam in the ngx and theTempur-Pedic. Any reason to think it won't be hot?

Any reason to think it won't be hot? Completely different animals. NXG is open cell & breathable with a faster response time whereas Tempur has a much slower release. Temper is all foam, NXG is more of a crossover type bed. NXG is an individually wrapped pocketed coil with NXG (NeXt Generation) foam.

10fttall
I'm another Sealy victim. I got a king about 2 years ago. It's one of those that is no flip (which, I guess means it only has half the coils and CANNOT be flipped.) It already has the little depressions in the positions that my wife and I usually sleep in. Not a thing we can do about it. If she's gone on a trip, I try to sleep in the very middle, you know, in a vain attempt to push it down in the center too. But I literally find myself feeling like I'm sleeping on the peak of a hill and I end up rolling down one way or the other. I need to check the warranty, but I am pretty sure it's just 1 year. It's not that uncomfortable...yet. And I love the amount of space, just because it's my first king bed. At least I got a VERY good price. Mattress sales are very strange. It's almost like a car dealership, but the items they are selling are less than one tenth of auto prices. There are very few things in that price range that can be negotiated and bargained like a mattress.
Elessar78
TK, just checked and it's actually a Simmons Beautyrest ("Spa Collection" whatever that means) and not a Sealy as I previously thought. Is that any better? Also, mine is one of those no-flip models. Is that no good? Do we need to rotate it?
Veretax
I bought a Sterns and Foster bed last month and I love it. Same here. Our sealy was starting to show its wear last summer. I got the idea that I could get a brand new mattress for her for Christmas, and that it would help her sleep, and recover from surgery faster. Well, she's still recovering, hypertension is a hard thing to overcome apparently, but I'm very happy with our Sterns and Foster. Very firm, still plush. I don't think mine can be 'flipped' but it can be rotated due to the pillow top, but I love this mattress. I don't know how I ever sleapt on that seally, this bed was ten times better than it. Granted it was probably 10 years old and used when we got it.
stevenaa
Looked at mattresses today. Found a Stearns I really like. Regularly 3500 on sale for 1699.00 Think I'm going with that one. Layed on the top of the line Simmons and the Stearns and the Stearns felt better. Any constructive advice welcome. I hate mattress shopping. I payed 800 for the sealy piece of garbage we have. Huge depressions with a mountain between us.
