WP: Obama isn't a Muslim. But here are other things that 20 percent of Americans believe

Nearly one in five Americans mistakenly believes that President Obama is Muslim, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center -- and that was before he came out in support of the right to build a mosque near Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan. What other opinions, habits, surmises, hopes and fears do 20 percent of us share? Recent surveys and studies show that one in five Americans also...

I would love to see the Venn Diagram for where these beliefs intersect.

Pretty funny if you look at it this way. 1 in 5 Americans believe the following about the President:

. . . thinks socialism is superior to capitalism, according to a 2009 Rasmussen survey.

. . . reports "excessive sleepiness," according to a recent study by Stanford University's Sleep Epidemiology Research Center.

. . . believes that the harsh techniques used to interrogate terrorism suspects after Sept. 11, 2001, were torture but still legitimate, according to a 2009 CNN poll.

. . . fears job loss in the next 12 months, according to a recent Gallup poll.

. . . believes in the right of a state to secede, according to a 2008 Zogby poll.

. . . thinks marijuana is more dangerous than alcohol, according to a recent Rasmussen poll.

. . . believes that intelligent beings from other planets have made contact with humans on Earth, according to a 2006 CBS News poll.

. . . skips medical care when sick or injured, according to a Deloitte survey released this month.

. . . believes that the government "enjoys the consent of the governed," according to a February Rasmussen telephone survey.

. . . admits to peeing in pools, according to a 2009 survey by the Water Quality and Health Council.

"Skip medical care when sick or injured" is nice and vague. Does that mean like who I, as a 25 year old, don't go running to the doctor every time I get a cold or the flu, and simply wrap and ice a twisted/sprained ankle? Or is that talking about groups like Christian Scientists, Amish, Scientologists, etc refuse to see a doctor for anything?

Either way I'm gonna with Buzz that "only 20%" seems a bit low for a couple of those things.

I heard on the radio the other day that in a game of Family Feud, the #1 answer to "who is the most popular president?" was.......(drum roll)

Ben Franklin :(

Well it's easy to see why. Sure, the Teapot Dome and Iran-Contra scandals hurt him a little, but between the Lousiana Purchase, freeing the slaves, and leading the US to victory in WWI it's really a no-brainer. No other president can hope to compete with that.

Why do "news"papers feel the overarching NEED to tell everyone that Obama isn't Muslim? Why do those same "news"papers feel the need to tell us he is Christian?

While he seems well versed in the practice of both. He does not publicly practice either.

I guess because one of the principle purposes of a newspaper is uncover and deseminate truth and act as a bulwark against lies and propaganda.

Yeah, it's getting ridiculous. I guess they feel they need to pound it into our heads. Obama doesn't help when he says "my muslim faith" in an interview. Sounded like a freudian slip more than misspeaking. I don't blame people for wondering if Obama is a muslim or is from Kenya when he says "my muslim faith" and Michelle says Barack's "home country" is Kenya. I just fail to see how those who may question it are considered nut jobs.

It's not a Freudian slip. It's called anticipating the question. They think they know where you're going and begin addressing it before the question is asked. It happens all the time esp. on questions that they've been asked 10 million times before.

Excuses excuses. Just like Jason Campbell and Patrick Ramsey defenders. Constant excuses.

or practical experience. :)

I've conducted a lot of interviews and seen people jump the question often in anticipation for a question they figure has to be coming.
