Olympia, WA: 29 arrested in anti-police protest

Another example of anarchist/liberal freaks who cause nothing but violence when they protest. The Tea Parties can't hold a candle to these idiots. Can you imagine the outrage if this was a conservative protesting group?

Someone let me know if they see it on national news, cuz I haven't, but been pretty busy last couple days.

OLYMPIA, Wash. - Police arrested 29 people after an anti-police march in Olympia Thursday night turned violent that led to alleged assaults against a newspaper photographer and two police officers.

The march began about 7 p.m. at a parking lot at 2100 Harrison Avenue and proceeded east towards the downtown area. Police say the march, with people dressed in black, wearing masks and calling themselves anarchists, blocked traffic along the way.

By 9 p.m., they had spray-painted the camera of a photographer for The Olympian and tried to take the camera and his cell phone, Bjornstad said. They also spray-painted buildings, broke windows and threw newspaper boxes into the street.

Officers observed the window of a business in the area of Jefferson Street and 4th Ave being broken.

Two officers were hit -- one in the head and one in the groin -- and those two attackers were booked for investigation of felony assault, Bjornstad said. Those two made their first court appearances Friday afternoon.

Two people who attacked the photographer were booked for investigation of assault. All the others were booked and released. The Thurston County Prosecutor's Office is looking at filing misdeamenor charges.

"I'm glad I wasn't here," says Citizen Bank branch manager Amy Sue Reed who walked into work to find a busted window. "It's very scary."

Shoe store clerk Cynthia Perry says they were chanting and angry.

"Some with hats on some with things over their face," said Perry. She says a few from the group spray painted the words "F police" on the front door of the store.

For the business owners who now have to pay for cleanup, Perry says the group's message was lost.

"What they're doing to me is just causing more problems. More violence, it's not going to solve anything," said Perry.

Bjornstad said there was no identifiable group responsible for the demonstration, but most of the marchers are college age. He said it may be related to similar protests in Portland, where hundreds have marched through downtown streets in recent weeks to decry two fatal shootings by officers.

I was downtown there Thursday night and never hear a peep. :pfft:

Don't know anything about the much larger crowd discussed regarding the Portland incident, but this sounds like a bunch of college iggies. Fine 'em hard and lock 'em up.

I certainly lean to the right, but how can we know if it is anarchist types or just college kids as Jumbo suggests? Maybe we'll find out, but labeling them before we know is a bit premature imo.

But an anti-police demonstration is never a good thing. Nothing good can come of it. It's an old cliche, but there will always be a few bad cops - the vast majority are on the good side.

I've always found it interesting how Communism, Anarchism and now Facism (according to some conservatives: Beck, Goldberg, Rush, et al) all end up on the same side of the political specttrum.

And the reason this isn't--and won't--get any play in the National Media--unlike the Tea Partiers--is because anarchists haven't been relevant in this country since they shot McKinley back in '01. (That's a bit of an exaggeration but you get the point.) But that won't stop conservatives from boo hooing about the unfairness of it all. They've gotten the playing of the victim card down to a T. Amusing really.

I'm staying out of the good cops vs bad cops debate.

These idiots remind me of the "resistance group" on the Venture Brothers that one time that did pointless things like playing pranks on the tyrant oppressing them instead of taking any kind of substantive action.

"I put a hair in his glass of vater." "Oh, yes! That's a good one!"

I guess no one watched the video? Maybe Jumbo wasn't around when they started spray painting windows, people, destroying things and such. nice job at minimizing...

I also wasn't posting this to get into good cop/bad cop. Protest all you want, demonstrate and hold signs. Tell people how you feel if there is injustice. I'm all for that.

But when you burn ****, wear masks over your face b/c your a coward, assault people, destroy property- then you are crossing a line.

Relax, I said "fine 'em hard and lock em up."

If you want there, Zena, go ahead and cleave them in twain , too. :ols:

And I wasn't minimizing, I was lauging at myself as how I could be right in the area later the same evening and have missed the news. Usually I have a pretty good level of awareness of what's happened around the turf. That was all, sorry if that didn't come across. But the other thing I typed that I quoted above should have shown a lack of support on my end and certainly no interest to minimize.

What is there about anything you have ever seen me post about anything lead anyone to think I have any need or interest to "minimize" anything? :D

By the way, fwiw ljs, today I have talked to two cop pals and the "protesters" (I think the term gives them too much credit--i think of them more as stupid igwads) included some clueless Evergreen punks (an excellent state college whose student population includes a healthy dose of faux-revolutionary-lite/ lib/lefty/GLBT and various activist groups), a couple dudes from Portland (presumably associated with the stuff going on there), some of the local perpetual sign-carrying protesters always around the capitol campus/downtown parks ("gimme a cause") that they know, and that the whole group (20-30) did act like creeps and vandals.

He said they broke one large window at a bank and two smaller ones elsewhere and three places were hit with spray-paint. The assault stuff was thrown bottles apparently and at least one "scuffle." No more details though from them, and I haven't checked the news yet this morning. He said they will prosecute (good, I hope so).

The Olympia cops are awesome and do a great job in a tough situation. I know a fair number, and have worked with some of them---very good, professional men and women. There are a lot of cops across the whole area for the size of the town. :ols:

Often when you start a thread, ljs, I see what looks like just a desire to hold a *****-fest and stir some pot over some thing stuck in your craw. This time I'm participating. :D

These are indeed brain-dead goofy loons from the left-leaners. I'd like to see these specific clowns hit with criminal penalties (the ones who did the acts). But I doubt we will due to time, room, and money involved in prosecution/incarceration. Hope I'm wrong.

In the meantime, there is room under the current-political-climate tent for anyone wanting to engage in childish whiny slow-thinking representing all parts of the spectrum. It's very inclusive. :pfft:

(PS, I typed that before your edit, where your last phrase was about me and minimizing ;))

So liberals are now big govenrment socialists (total state control) AND anarchists (which are entirely against any form of control). Nice to see the big tent now encompasses everyone conservatives don't like. Anyone else you'd like to throw in LJS? Militias are anti government too and have been embarassing republicans for decades want to give them to liberals too?

According to Wikipedia an Anarchist is: a political philosophy which considers the state undesirable, unnecessary and harmful, and instead promotes a stateless society, or anarchy.[1][2] It seeks to diminish or even abolish authority in the conduct of human relations.

Now does that sound like a leftist to you?

And since you decided to compare this to tea parties. Care to tell me when Obama is scheduled to speak at an Anarchist rally? What about Nancy Pelosi, she going to be organizing an anarchist function any time soon? Will MSNBC advertise for their next rally nonstop and criticize Fox's failure to alert people of the meeting details?

I wasn't necessarily talking about you minimizing, did you see me quote anyone with my response? take a chill there Jumbo.

as far as your post above, anyone who starts a political type thread (or various other subjects) could be labeled under that. If you or any other mod has an issue with me, or the threads I start, then maybe I should get some sort of warning. But check my history on ES. Not oncee, not ever- has any mod ever warned me or threatened a time out for anything I've ever posted or a thread I've started. As a matter of fact, you are the only one who has ever had an issue with what I post, and its because we disagree on nearly everything related to politics. Except maybe Zoony on the wolf hunting thing.

If I broke a rule, then I deserve whatever punishment per the ES rules, but if not- I have a father thanks. so you can save your dad like lectures for someone else:)

ljs, I am chill, you're really out to lunch on this one and are still not getting some things, and you have made several inaccurate/misplaced statements in the above post. Nevertheless, I just choose to let it go. :)

And while I knew it was possible you weren't signaling me out re: "minimizing", the way you structured your communication is easily taken that way. My reply was therefore formed so that it wouldn't matter much either way. Regarding your closing, you might wanna chill yourself. :)

Sorry, but these are people protesting police, if anything these would be the tea baggers because police are a form of socialism...which is somehow fascism...which is some how connected to communism and Hitler. As far s I know these people have no political affiliation, unlike the tea baggers which actually make death threats.
