fox sports: shanahan has 100% controll

Stop splitting hairs on draft picks. No coach goes perfect with all the draft picks over their careers and some get lucky too.

You're kidding, right? No one wanted to touch Clarett and Shanahan wasted a 3rd rounder on him because of arrogance.

If he has 100% control, it's a very big problem. Shanahan (and most any coach IMO) needs to be reined in by a GM. Allen hopefully will do his job, and this 100% control stuff is just a rumor. If it's not, it's a huge problem, and a sign that nothing much will have changed.

read below.

How is this hard to understand?

It seems that you didn't understand my sarcasm. After a decade of insane meddling I think I have good reasons to remain skeptical. Do I wish Snyder to give up authority ? yes I do. Is he going to do it ? No, I doubt, hope he will prove me wrong.

From Patrick86L, Snyder speaking: "Bruce Allen spent many hours examining the football operations, and WE are BOTH determined to do whatever it takes to build a championship team."

Well, that would have me a little worried. I don't mind if Shanny gets to look over the scouting reports and makes his preferences known, he does need to get the kind of player he needs, but I prefer a little more division of resources and perspectives.

This is exactly the criticism Denver fans had of him when he was still there. He was essentially autonomous in each decision, this is from perusing through the Denver forums when he was fired because I was interested to see their take.

Is Dan not doing whatever it takes to build a championship team by hiring Allen? And then getting Shanahan? He has to be involved somehow.

There's nothing wrong with the head coach having total control. It doesn't make any sense for a GM or owner to tell the coach which players should or should not be on the roster. Bruce Allen will draft the players that will fit in Shanahan's west coast system. Shanahan will then decide whether or not those players can cut it or not.

I would have prefered Snyder to say: I want to do whatever it takes to build a championship team, I learned from my mistakes therefore I give total control to M. Allen and M Shanahan to achieve this task.

By the way, if Shanahan DOES do the drafting, maybe it's not such a bad thing. Take a look at his 2006 draft...

1 - Jay Cutler (former Pro Bowler, now starter for CHI)

2 - Tony Scheffler (was the starter for DEN under Shanahan)

4 - Brandon Marshall (Pro Bowl starter for DEN)

4 - Elvis Dumervil (Pro Bowl starter for DEN)

4 - Domenik Hixon (starter for NYG, also return specialist)

5 - Chris Kuper (starter for DEN)

6 - Greg Eslinger (okay fine he sucked, but he was considered a steal at the time)

I'm going to wait and see how this plays out. I don't mind a coach telling someone who he wants, but who's the one that makes the final decisions on whether the guy is worth the money it'll take or the draft picks? That is where I would want Allen to balance Shanahan. Does Allen just tell him what the impacts will be and Shanahan can move forward however he sees fit? Giving the wording, I believe the latter to be the case.

Fellow Skins fans.... you guys kill me. Every time I read this board it's the same chit. Hand wringing over the most minor details, mapping out the pitfalls of every single potential decision. You guys are here picking apart a hypothetical organizational structure that you have absolutely no idea about in reality. The coach hasn't even had his introductory press conference yet!

Best of all though is the "it's not good enough for me yet" attitude so many of you have. It kills me. It absolutely kills me how seriously you take yourselves here.

Carry on.

I think the problem here is nailing down a true definition of "100% Control"

I think some people have a vision of Shanahan sitting all alone in a locked office with the blinds closed, scrolling over all kinds of data, stats and video, then emerging with a list of who he wants.

I like to think he'll be in an office surrounded by his coaching staff and some key scouts and FO members. The staff discusses the needs of each position and potential methods of filling those needs. Then Allen and Shanahan discuss the options provided, weighing the pros and cons of each player, Allen interjects the money aspect and then Shanahan eventually makes the final decision on who to pursue.

At least I hope that's how it works.

Why are so many people freaking out? There is no way that anyone knows EVERYTHING about the contracts and the set up outside of Snyder, Allen, and Shanny (and of course their agents and maybe families) yet. The ink hasn't even dried and everyone going into hysterics. Calm down people.

That's what I'm thinking too. Mike will tell Allen the guys he wants and Allen will find a way to bring them in. Danny's role will be writing the checks for these players.

I agree that Shanahan should decide who he wants on the roster anyway. I'm sure Allen will have a part in that, but ultimately the coach should be able to decide on the players he's coaching.

WHy does everyone assume that Shanahan will come and say hey I want X Player on Y Team? Its more likely Shanahan will come to Bruce and say, hey, I think we need full back. Allen will say what did you have in mind, and Shanahan will say, well he needs to be a solid blocker. It would be okay if he can catch, but I really need this guy to be a blocker for third downs. Allen jots the notes down contacts our scouts and see who is available that fits the mold.

I bet this is how most teams operate. Only the occasionaly big name free agent might be asked for by name. I mean Shanny does not have the time to watch film on every player in the league. And sometimes you don't need name people, you just need someone that fills a certain fit at a certain position.
