Report: Cowboys will sign Suisham

Shaun Suisham, who was in Dallas for a tryout with the Cowboys today, will sign with the team, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports, and his first game with his new team will be Sunday night against the Redskins at FedEx Field.

Although Suisham missed a chip-shot field goal late in the fourth quarter of the 33-30 overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints two weeks ago and two field goals -- including a 39-yarder -- in the 7-6 loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Nov. 22, he converted 18 of 21 field-goal attempts this season and is the most accurate place kicker in team history among those with at least 100 career field-goal attempts. He also had performed well in executing the designed kickoffs special teams coordinator Danny Smith called.

While Suisham is good enough to earn a job on the strength of his performance, the Cowboys had added incentive to sign him because of what he knows about his former team. According to several players, Suisham was heavily involved in the trick plays on punts and field-goal attempts that Smith enjoys designing. Punter Hunter Smith has rushed for a touchdown and thrown a touchdown pass this season.

There's no word yet whether the Cowboys will cut Nick Folk, he of the 24-yard clanger that would have given Dallas a 10-point lead over the Saints with 2:10 to play Saturday night. The Cowboys won the game and, Ed Werder of ESPN reports, may opt to put Folk on the season-ending injured-reserve list. He had offseason hip surgery

He'll be decent for them.

They have a guy who does their kickoffs.

I don't understand why that guy isn't their kicker though.

As a Cowboys fan i can tell you that Beuhler couldnt hit the broad side of a barn, he is a terrible kicker accuracy wise, but he's got the leg from hell, even at USC he didnt kick FG's, he was brought strictly as a kickoff specialist and if you keep an eye out you will see him on punt formations from time to time as a gunner.

This season has accomplished the primary goal. 2009 was a great year in Redskins history if Snyder learned that he has to get rid of Vinny AND trust in a real football GM. Whether Bruce Allen works out or not, we should not see a return to the idiocy of Vinny or whatever other yes-man kind of situation Dan wants to be put into.

Dan needs to put his trust into a real football GM from this time on. 2009 will be completely worth it if this happens.

In the grand scheme of things, anything that happens this Sunday is worth it if it helps cement this into our stubborn owner's mind.

*That doesn't mean I'm hoping for a loss. But a loss does have benefits. The obvious thing I "hope" for is that we win but Dan STILL realizes all of these things.
