GhostofSparta
BOSTON (AP) - Tedy Bruschi is retiring after a 13-year career marked by an inspiring return to the New England Patriots as a starting linebacker eight months after a stroke. A person familiar with his decision tells The Associated Press that the 36-year-old Bruschi will announce his retirement at a news conference Monday morning. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made. The team declined comment Sunday night. Redskins:Victory_or_Death
Damn, a stroke at 33, that's just crazy. Makes you think of all the nagging debilitating injuries suffered by older NFL veterans.
stickyshooZ
Wow, he's 36? I thought he was a little younger...but still, he's had a good career.

GhostofSparta
I was amazed he came back from that stroke too, that was just sheer determination. Wonder how that defense is gonna do without him this year.

Toe Jam
He was the only Patriot I felt sorry for after the Super Bowl loss in 2008.
BlueinBuf
Man with him and Vrabel gone I think that's a big loss to the NE LB core.
tr1
Cooley's reception was probably the catalyst.
Hazel-Ra
He was the only Patriot I felt sorry for after the Super Bowl loss in 2008. Yeah, unlike that ring chaser Jr Seau, who was counting his chickens a little early on the sidelines:evilg:
#1njskinsfan
dont doubt he needs and wants to retire, but i would not be shocked if it is coming out now (and not closer to season to see if he can still play) to distract from brady... (that is the shady coach thought in me, i dont trust billy one second)
FanboyOf91
He was the only Patriot I felt sorry for after the Super Bowl loss in 2008. Yeah, he walked back out to play the final snap while his coach hid in the locker room.
Rdskn4Lyf21
I've always loved Bruschi....the guy had nothing but great character and work ethic.
SIXX99
Bruschi was my favorite Pat. Solid career with 3 rings is nothing to hang your head on though.

authentic
Kind of shocking after watching him play the other night. Maybe, the fact that Cooley beat him on that 73 yrd reception was the nail in the coffin. Oh well, no tears shed for any Patriot. They've run thier mouths for so many years, i'm glad that he's retiring.

(that is the shady coach thought in me, i dont trust billy one second) Glad I'm not the only one who was a bit suspicious about the timing of his retirement... Still, one of the few class acts on that team, it'll be a loss, especially from a leadership perspective.
MassSkinsFan
Here's another link worth checking: http://www.boston.com/sports/columnists/massarotti/2009/08/bruschi_makes_his_last_play.html I'm not a Pats fan by any means, but I admired Bruschi very much. I also loved the fact that he had such an apt last name. :2drunks::beerglass:40oz::refill: We'll miss you Tedy.
