NYT: Tea Parties Forever by Krugman

You mean The American Fantasy? The American Dream is something that only about 0.007% of Americans live, that is if you're talking about having a net worth of at least $1 million, excluding primary residences.

Wow, that is a twisted and incredibly materialistic notion of the American dream.

Why don't these righties have their Tea Parties outside the headquarters of all these corporations who find every loophole they can to not pay ONE DIME in taxes??!! How about having them in front of the giant mansions of the super rich ****s who own 90% of the wealth in this country?

Vent your anger where it should be directed. The Obama administration is trying to fix Bush's blunders AND tilt the balance back in the working class and middle classes' favor. Fox News has really warped some minds out there.

Because they'd rather have them in nice little parks, that are paid for by taxes.

Well, average Americans sure have become very misinformed then.

I don't think it matters if it is .000000001 of Americans have a net worth of 1 million, people do not want the government closing the door on the ability to become a part of that .00000001 percent. Since when has America become a country that is so dependant on our government that we need them making decisions for us? Since when did the attorneys and law makers that run our country become experts at running a business?

Wow, that is a twisted and incredibly materialistic notion of the American dream.

You mean the, "chicken in every pot and a car in every garage," American dream. Well now, due to the out of control cost of living, most people are living from paycheck to paycheck to pay for that car and the garage that it's housed in. They've also switched to having Hamburger Helper on the stove, because that's all they have money left for.

Are you talking about the American dream where we have realistically priced health care, top notch schools for our children, more lenient work schedules that allow us to relax and actually have a life (and still make a good living), and college that's not so expensive that it doesn't lead to life-long debt. Well, they're already living that dream in much of Western Europe. Not here, unless you're fortunate enough to be super rich.

Well, reporting and quoting others is an entirely different thing than espousing it themselves.

Of course media has a slant, that's kind of my point, We know they're pulling strings and pushing buttons,, so don't let them. Recognize manipulation when we see it and we can't be manipulated as easily.

~Bang

We're on the same page, but to clarify what I mean, when the media reports it usually it's because they are taking a side and doing it as part of an overall agenda. MSNBC trying to expose FOX News and vice versa. Battle of the rages.

To those on the left: Wouldn't just ignoring this be a better option? :whoknows:

I still ignore all the crazy left wing nut jobs that come out to protest the IMF, World Bank, and the anti war protests in 2003 (all of these which have plenty of astroturf feel with A.N.S.W.E.R sponsoring them and coordinating them on a far greater level)

I can't ignore them...it is too funny not to ignore...great entertainment.

Simple: Because they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them.

Kind of like the Fox News reporter who yelled out "Wake up people, and fight this fascism!" today in the middle of his broadcast?

Why are we shocked by this - CNN left, Fox right. Can we finally move on from that.

Dude, seriously.....do you even think rationally or does it just come out irrationally?

Think about the pros/cons of a park compared to a private residence or business, not to mention the legalities of either.

Man....

What's so entertaining about normal Americans protesting peacefully?

Not the protestring peacefully part...that is not entertaining..it is entertaining watching them talk about how Obama is a socialist, how he is a secret Muslim, and how he wasn't born in this country.

Then on top of that, they are more mad at him for trying to get of out of the mess that was inherited, than they are about how we got in the situation in the first place. Nothing more nothing less.

It's funny you mention the leaglities of it, because apparently many of them forget to actually think about the legal issues, being that they didn't bother to get permits and had to move their protest to other areas than where they were originally planned.

Not to mention one rally was shut down because some genius thought it was a good idea to throw a box of tea bags on the white house lawn, which then triggered the secret service to do what they do.

Your irrational might be my rational. Dude, I don't take everything as serious as you may. I understand why they use parks. Just a quick quip by me to be a smartass.

And as a Contracting Officer, I have to be rational in my decision making. A little irrationality (if that is a word) on ES to break the monotony I don't think is that serious. But to each his own.

Not even my irrational self would do something that stupid.

It's more fun to make fun of others with differing opinions than to appreciate their freedom to voice their opinions.

Duhhh :silly:

If you are going to put yourself out there you can't have thin skin, they have every right to protest and for the most part it was peaceful, though I think some of the signs were less than peaceful, I don't think racist comments are ever peaceful.

My beef is with the people that make signs and spell words wrong.

If you're going to hold up a sign and you know you could end up on tv wouldn't you make sure that your sign was correct?

No matter what side you are on, this is funny.

Great response to my question, avoid backing your own comment.

"Many" of them forgot permits? Hmmm.....one that I know of didn't have the aspect of dumping tea bags on their permit. Even at that though, I'll give you that one. One...there may have been a few others. Considering there were hundreds of protests today, maybe over a thousand, that's an extremely small amount.

*And that one idiot was just that, an idiot. What's the point? One person ****ed it up for many. Good point!

It's not about taking it with intense seriousness. I mean this is just a message board and I'm here for Redskins talk. All of this is just time fillers :D

I just figured since you made a remark criticizing where these are taken place that your criticism would at least be intelligent. I'm sorry I gave you the benefit of the doubt.

People can be such idiots. This one guy at the protest today had a shirt saying "Puck Obama - Palin's hockey team". I told him to stick it and that's not what we were all out there for.

Concerning the racist remarks, they are stupid and all they do is divide. The good part is is that the minority that takes part in racial comments and stupid, unintelligible signs doesn't reflect the majority.

I heard more racial comments yelled at the protesters by drivers passing by than any stupid comments made by the protesters themselves.

*I was laughing at one sign someone made today because they obviously didn't account for the "-ed" at the end of one of the words on the sign. It was squished it on the side after the word
