Mock Draft: The Experts' ConsensusComment Email Print Share By Chris Sprow

Mark Sanchez: International Man of (Scouting) Mystery

Earlier, we released Mel Kiper's and Todd McShay's latest mock drafts. As we get closer to draft day, experts are zeroing in on where they believe picks will land … but what might surprise you is just how much they disagree. How is it that one draft guru has a guy at No. 1 and another has him at No. 17? So we charted it out.

The process helps us with three things:

• Assigning draft value. If 10 experts drafted today, who rates highest? Sounds like an actual war room, yes?

• Creating an agreement index. By calculating the standard deviation of likely draft positions among experts, we can determine who is a "safe pick" at No. 20, and who is a "reach" at No. 10. The lower the agreed number, the closer the consensus.

• Finding a range. If one expert has a pick set for No. 5 overall and another has him in the No. 28 spot, it's a good indicator that a lot of mystery still surrounds the guy.

Our pool includes Kiper and McShay, plus draft experts from CBS, Fox, the NFL Network and Yahoo! Sports. Conclusions after the chart. All second-round projections are given a No. 35 pick standing.

The expert rankings are for ESPN Insiders.

Updates will follow the shifting sands of opinion each week.

personally i think maybin is going to be the defensive rookie of the year where ever he goes, and we can definitly snatch him up

Maybin is a twig. He will be eaten alive if he plays DE. He is only a sophomore coming out and he never played a second at LB so putting him there would be a huge fail too. NO MAYBIN!!!

We are in agreement on this one. My first choice would be to trade down, but we will see.

We trade our 13th pick to the Lions for the 20th and the first pick in the 3rd round with additional 6th.

Lions Draft OT Jason Smith #1 and QB Sanchez or Stafford at 13.

Redskins Draft LB Brain Cushing at 20 (Cowboys old pick for the Roy trade)

Book it!

Every mock recently has us taking Andre Smith cause of all his problems, it's like people think we are the only team that will take a chance. I have also seen us taking Cushing and Tyson Jackson. Jackson is an interesting DE, he's huge to battle in the East, but he should be a lower pick then #13. So maybe we could trade back and still get him.

Andre Smith may have been flabby, but some people just have bad genes in the looks department.

He did great in the blocking drills, just didn't bench a whole lot.

Adam Archuleta was a workout wonder, but sucked at football. Andre Smith may just be the opposite.

];6219471']If wanting Brian Orakpo is wrong' date=' then I don't want to be right.

It feels a lot better if we lie to ourselves. Hurt yourself already, Brian.[/quote']

better yet, instead of risking an injury to him, we should get someone to plane a small amount of marijuana on him

this way he'll slide enough that we can draft him, and he'll be healthy

i believe the end fully justifies the means in this instance :paranoid:

I have to agree with your signature. If we cant trade down from #13 then lets take Michael Oher.

On a side note, I cant believe Jason Smith from Baylor is rated so high. I watched lots of Baylor games this year and was not impressed with any of the OL. Now the QB, Robert Griffin, that kid is going to be friggin awsome if he can stay healthy. WOW.

In addition, I think all the people creating the mock drafts see the REDSKINS MGT. (Vinny and The Danny?) as a bunch of dummies who will take Andre Smith regardless of all the bad baggage he know has since the combine. This shows how the Redskins ownership is viewed around the nation by many NFL fans....

We trade our 13th pick to the Lions for the 20th and the first pick in the 3rd round with additional 6th.

I think this is the trade that fans want to happen the most. But we've got to see what kind of a guy Martin Mayhew is with draft day deals. Could he be somebody who Vinny takes advantage of?

Thanks Thinking Skins for re-posting it legibly.

I am NOT a fan of Kiper and his mocks. He still has Pettigrew as borderline top 10, going 11th to the Bills? Please. Pettigrew had a really disappointing combine. And before the combine his value was late first max.

I have also seen us taking Cushing and Tyson Jackson. Jackson is an interesting DE, he's huge to battle in the East, but he should be a lower pick then #13. So maybe we could trade back and still get him.

Cushing had a pretty good combine. He did great in the short space drills that matter for LB (which is what Lofa Totupa did well in, in his combine). As for Jackson, I'm for it. He's a younger version of Phillip Daniels. Able to collapse the pocket with the bull-rush. Great against the run. Can move inside to UT on passing downs.

Andre Carter had so many hurries last year. With Haynesworth and Jackson collapsing the pocket, a lot of those hurries will turn into sacks.
