Guys, we still have a gaping hole at this spot. What are some of the options out there besides Daniels and Evans? Personally, it would annoy me if we used a top pick on this position, because of the lack of playmaking ability that usually comes out of this spot?

I know that Jovan Haye is a DT and a FA. Is it possible we could move him over to DE in a 4-3 scheme as he is 285 and his game is based on quickness?

We should focus on OT and OLB in the 1st and 3rd rounds of the draft. This year, we need to give JT a chance at DE with P. Daniels or D. Evans backing him up, and to play against the run. I imagine Evans will be signed elsewhere, so it will probably be Daniels. If we trade down or see a fine prospect at DE in later rounds, we should jump on it. Unfortunately, there are few DE prospects this year with the size and talent that we need. So, I see us going for a DE next year. Maybe Haynesworth will make one of our reserves (Wilson, Jackson, Buzbee) look real good. Our draft this year probably should go as follows:

1. Michael Oher or Andre Smith

3. Tyrone McKenzie or Marcus Freeman, OLBs

5. A.Q. Shipley, C

6. Bruce Johnson, CB, Miami

No matter how good he is at stopping the run, I just can't fathom drafting a guy who will get only 3-4 sacks per year in the first round.

It's not about how many sacks he gets. It's about how many sacks the team gets.

A big, strong end would help enable the other end (Carter or Taylor) to get to the QB more often. It would also free Haynesworth up to make a play in the backfield due to the fact they'd have to be aware of that end as well and can't double team Haynesworth at all times.

Brian Orakpo baby! He's a Vernon Gholston who can actually play football, not just lift and run.

Really good chance that Orakpo won't be there. He'd be a good fit for us as a pass rush specialist. Until he could bulk up, I wouldn't want him playing much DE, but he could on occasion to spell Taylor or Carter.

I like Orakpo much better now that we have Haynesworth, but if we go DE, I'd like a bigger, stronger DE.

That said, I think we need to go RT in the draft at this point.

We need someone who is a run-stopper; who will stay at home and cover for Haynesworth when he is free-lancing.

Perhaps we can re-sign Daniels, or another veteran DE for meeting these responsibilities. Yes, it would be nice if he can pressure the QB and pick up a few sacks when teams overload to A.H. But to play Blache's defense, we need to stop the run first. Remember when the Cowboys ran all over us at the end of the game here at FedEx?

Trade out of 13 spot.

Pick up Tyson Jackson.

Voila.

Agreed. With strong players like him and Haynesworth on the line, that definitely frees up Griffin and Carter for sacks. Plus, Tyson can play inside as well in our scheme, so that puts less pressure on Taylor (if we don't cut him).

Haynesworth's role was to allow his teammates to make sacks as well, and they did. Granted hi himself got a nice amoount himself, I wouldn't automatically assume those similar sack totals will translate over here.

really? How? His name pretty much popped out during the combine as well. People knew of him like they did of Gholston. Both are tremendous athletes, but I'd rather we stop looking into combine and pre-draft warriors. Jerod Mayo did improve his stock at the combine, but he also had a solid career at UT to back it up.

Also, trading down and landing Jackson could also land us one of the 5-7 ranked tackles like Britton or Beatty or Loadholt. It also allows us to take a LB in the 3rd round, and there will definitely be viable talent for LB in the third round, especially when you got Haynesworth and Fletcher on your team, and potentially Tyson Jackson.

If we could then somehow swing Shipley in the 5th or 4th, that'd be even better. Three younger and new starters on the o-line next year would be pretty sweet.

In 2006 tyson jackson put up 10 sacks.

Put him on a talented line and he could be very useful despite his slowish speed.

True, he has only managed approx 4 sacks the last couple of years but if the skins scout him they need to find out what happened in 2006.

Jackson would be great for our team. He's been the guy I've wanted all along. I'd still like to see him on the team, but I think our needs shift to RT. If we can trade down, snag him and get a guy like Loadholt with a pick acquired from the trade down, I'd sitll be down for getting him. :)

If we need a starter at LDE, I do not know why Taylor is on our roster.

That means neither Carter or him can man that spot and neither can play LB. That is a recipe for disastor. We need to cut our losses with Taylor and get a better player there.

Unless, we beef up our LBs in the draft, but then we don't improve the o-line. We don't have picks nor cap space to fix everything with the contracts to Hall/Haynesworth.

So now our only options is to get either Evans or Daniels back and split the time with Taylor.

Orapko is not big enough. Anyway, I think if we are going to take one of those DE/OLB types, I'd rather trade down and take Connor Barwin.

I'd love to see Barwin in B&G. I'm a bit biased but he's done well as a TE and first year DE.

I think I'd rather have Jarron Gilbert over Tyson Jackson if we are going to go that route and get the big DE. I'm not getting how Jackson helps our other players get sacks. I don't see him as the type of guy to command double teams so he wouldn't be freeing up the other players to make plays.

Haynesworth and Jackson could complete destroy the pocket to their side of the line. The QB couldn't go to the side or to the middle because it's occupied. He'd have to roll.

Andre Carter for the sack.

How do you think he got ten in 2007? Phillip Daniels made it possible.
