CounterTrey
hey Guys, I just wanted to know if anyone is very edcuated on how the WCO offence runs. Can anyone explain it to me?? How does it deiffer to what Gibbs or Saunders ran? What positions do you think looking at our Current roster do we need to upgrade and do you think JC can run it effectively - Does his slow release inhibit running this type of offence?? Thanks! and lets give this guy Zorn the support he needs to get this team going back to the playoffs this year!
Mania
there are plenty of threads that explain the wco.

SlinginSammy HOF '63
http://football.calsci.com/WCOHistory2.html Perfect offense for a guy like WR Roy Williams
Chachie
http://football.calsci.com/WCOHistory2.html Good stuff, B&G. I think our current WRs are too small for a WCO. I think our QB is too inaccurate for a WCO. The only people perfect for it are Cooley and Portis. I hope CP will make the change well. He can certainly block and his catch-and-run is getting better. Veretax
Non sense. Height has nothing to do with the WCO: WRs by Team 2007 Stats Phily: Jason Avant 6-0 212 lbs 23 rec 267yds (Also disappeared in some games) Hank Baskett 6-4 220 lbs 16 Rec 142Yds (Wow what great numbers for a BIG WR, i.e disappeared in 7 or more games) Reggie Brown 6-1 197 lbs 61 Rec 780 Yds (Yup another tall one Kevin Curtis 6-0 186 lbs 71 Rec 1110 Yds (Wow he's really tall huh?) Michale Gasperson 6-4 220 lbs (Did not play) - Rookie Greg Lewis 6-0 180 13 rec 265 yds (Disappeared in a lot of games) Bill Sampy 5-11 192 lbs (Did not play) Green Bay Shaun Bodiford 5-11 186 lbs 1 Rec 13 Yds (was on IR I believe) Donald Driver 6-0 190 lbs 82 Rec 1048 Yds (Wow what a huge WR) Carlyle Holiday 6-2 217 lbs (Was on IR for most of the season and never played in 2007) Greg Jennings 5-11 197 lbs 53 Rec 920 Yds (yup another HUGE WR with production, lol) James Jones 6-1 207 lbs 47 Rec 676 (Good consistency in performance from Jones, but again not that BIG of a WR) Ruvell Martin 6-4 210 lbs 16 Rec 242 Yds (Didn't have the most snaps cause he wasn't Green Bay's best Receiver, so I can forgive his limited production, but he did make an average of a catch a game he did play in) Koren Robinson 6-1 205 lbs 21 Rec 241 Yds (Was suspsended early in the season, but made the most of his touches after Week 9, but again not a huge WR) Seahawks Deion Branch 5-9 192 lbs 49 Rec 661 Yds (yup a huge WR there) Nate Burleson 6-0 198 lbs 50 Rec 694 Yds Bobby Engram 5-10 192 lbs 94 Rec 1147 Yds (great production) D.J. Hackett 6-2 208 lbs 32 Rec 384 Yds (not bad, not great, but not bad seeing as how he didn't play in most games, was he injured?) Ben Obomanu 6-0 206 lbs 12 Rec 180 Yds (Not much production, and disappeared in many games) Logan Payne 6-2 205 lbs (Did Not Play) Courtney Taylor 6-1 205 lbs 5 Rec 38 Yds (not much playing time) So my Conclusion, you need WRs who can catch the ball consistently. Which means if Moss or ARE aren't going to catch what's thrown at them, they will be gone and replaced with someone who wants to make catches. That's my anaylsis of the WR position for WCO. LD0506
Too much is made of size in WRs for the WCO, what you need are guys that run perfect patterns. The whole thing is predicated on a QB making a throw to a specific spot in rhythm and the WR being there and making the catch. There is less room for error or free lancing but height is not a limiting factor.
ibarramedia
There are a lot of related discussion here. http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?t=236853 http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4846248#post4846248 http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4835118#post4835118 http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4830001#post4830001 http://www.extremeskins.com/forums/showthread.php?p=4829974#post4829974 Fixed. HitStickTaylor21
Moss and Randle El can thrive in this offense. If the Seahawks can pull it off with Branch, Hackett, Engram and Burleson, then we will be fine if we pick up another quality WR, either in the draft or FA. Moss, Randle El, (insert name) and Caldwell will suffice. Maybe Mix will fit in better as well. I'm not too worried. I'd worry about JC before I worry about the WR corps. KDawg
The WCO is an offense that is a passing based offense. It's used with mostly intermediate routes from the receivers and tight ends. The backs mostly will swing or other routes directed to the flats, or the linebacker coverage zones. The backs MUST be able to block. Often, the runningback is supposed to block and be a receiver first and foremost in a WCO, however guys like Shaun Alexander and Ricky Watters among others had monster rushing years in a WCO. The QB needs to have accuracy and a sense of timing. It's a great offense if you have the guys to run it. I think we do. Our quick receivers benefit the WCO. Veretax
Another Example, the 1996 Packer team that defeated the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl Their Wide Receivers were Beebe, Don 5-11 185 lbs 39 Rec 699 Yards Freeman, Antonio 6-0 187 lbs 56 Rec 933 Yards Howard, Desmond 5-10 180 lbs 13 Rec 95 Yards Mayes, Derrick 6-1 200 lbs 6 Rec 46 Yards Mickens, Terry 6-1 198 lbs Terry Mickens 18 Rec 161 Yards Rison, Andre 6-1 188 lbs Andre Rison 13 Rec 135 Yards (And Robert Brooks who was also 6-1) 23 Rec 344 Yards That may be shocking to you, but consider this, the tight ends: Jackson, Keith 6-2 258 lbs 40 Rec 505 Yards Chmura, Mark 6-5 250 lbs 28 Rec 370 Yards Thomason, Jeff 6-4 250 lbs 3 Rec 45 Yards That still may not seem like a lot of yards, the two running backs: Dorsey Levens 121 Carries 566 Yards 5 TDs Edgar Bennett 222 Carries 899 Yards 2 TDs So that's a LOT of carries for the Running backs and decent yardage Incidentally both also caught a few passes: Levens: 31 Rec 226 Yards Bennet 31 Rec 176 Yards
KDawg
Exactly. People who are paranoid about the personnel need to realize our offensive guys, as of today, are geared for the WCO. If Campbell can pick it up, we should be pretty good. I'm worried about our Offensive Line a little bit... We're getting old up front. But we should be alright for another year. Now is the time to start stock piling guys there though. Free agents, maybe? Heyer is a good start.
