StillUnknown
Watched it saturday night. It was awesome! i'm glad Frazier got an opportunity to tell his side of the deal it tends to get lost that Frazier won the first fight, which is the fight in which both fighters were closest to their respective primes
StillUnknown
one of boxing's best prospects, Yuriorkis Gamboa, fights on Showtime tonight at 11pm(est) gamboa has some of the fastest hands in boxing, 1-shot power, but he always leaves his hands down because he thinks his head/body movement is quick enough to evade punches. as a result he's been put on the ground a couple of times. always exciting though, his fights are must see. he has the potential for greatness, but unless he fixes that major defensive lapse, he'll never be champ for an extended period of time

ksun247
http://www.fightnews.com/?p=9831 Hatton-Pacquiao undercard news: The fight between unbeaten jr middleweight James Kirkland and Michael Walker on the May 2 Pacquiao-Hatton undercard in Las Vegas is definitely off. A request by lawyers of Kirkland, who was arrested last week on a weapons charge, to be released from custody under supervision to go through with the fight against Walker was denied Friday by U.S. Magistrate Judge Andy Austin in Austin, Texas. Kirkland, one of the most exciting young fighters in boxing, is facing a sentence of up to ten years. I guess we won't be seeing him fight anytime soon, if he gets jail time. Damn DUMB AZZ!!!! EDIT: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=4096998 Junior middleweight contender James Kirkland, who remains in federal custody on a weapons charge, was scratched Friday from the Ricky Hatton-Manny Pacquiao HBO PPV undercard in Las Vegas, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com. Kirkland, 25, was arrested during a traffic stop in his hometown of Austin, Texas, and booked Sunday afternoon. He was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, according to the Travis County Sherriff's Department Web site. Kirkland was due to face Michael Walker in a 10-round televised bout at the MGM Grand on May 2. According to Schaefer, the judge presiding over Kirkland's case rejected a petition to allow Kirkland to travel to Las Vegas with the guarantee that he would return to Austin on May 3. Schaefer said Golden Boy, Kirkland's attorney and his co-manager Michael Miller were willing to hire an off-duty police officer approved by the court to escort Kirkland to Las Vegas and stay with him 24 hours a day. "We were going to assume the responsibility and guarantee the judge that James would come to Las Vegas on Wednesday or Thursday, fight on Saturday and return home on Sunday under the strict supervision of an off-duty police officer. The judge wouldn't allow it." Kirkland (25-0, 22 KOs), one of boxing's most ferocious punchers and emerging contenders, is on probation for a 2003 armed robbery that cost him 2½ years of his career. The legal issues have sidetracked a fighter on the fast track to stardom. After stopping Joel "Love Child" Julio in six rounds on March 7, Kirkland was quickly lined up for the May 2 fight. Had Kirkland won, he was due back in an HBO main event in early August to possibly challenge for a world title. "We support James and we want him to take care of his issues," Schaefer said. "We're not going to abandon him because he has a serious problem that he is facing." Schaefer said that if middleweight prospect Daniel Jacobs (14-0, 13 KOs) wins his fight on tonight's "Friday Night Fights" card in Chicago against Jose Varela (23-5, 16 KOs), and comes out uninjured, Jacobs likely will assume Kirkland's place on the pay-per-view card and face Walker (19-1-2, 12 KOs). ksun247
Jermain Taylor just got KTFO by Carl Froch. Great championship rounds for Froch. Taylor needs to work on his defense and stamina. Great end to an OK fight.

StillUnknown
juanma beat the hell out of Penalosa penalosa never been stopped in his career, he probably would've made it to the end of the fight, but Freddie Roach made the right call stopping it. juanma will be pound 4 pound best in boxing in a couple of years. he's a problem for anyone from 122-130 Edited April 26, 2009 by StillUnknown
ksun247
That was a BEATDOWN by Juanma. Maybe if Penalosa threw much punches to keep Juanma honest. I know his ribs hurt. He took a brutal beating, but he just couldn't get Juanma off of him. He just attacked and attacked. Penalosa did land a few good punches in the exchanges, but not enough to back Juanma up. Great Stoppage. No need for Penalosa to get seriously hurt. Definitely a fighter folks may want try to avoid. Would love to see a match with Juanma against either Rafael Marquez or Israel Vazquez. Would be classic.:redpunch: Edited April 26, 2009 by ksun247

StillUnknown
local product Gary Russell Jr. fought tonight: Unbeaten Featherweight Gary Russell Jr. scored a four round unanimous decision over Alvaro Muro. Russell (3-0, 1 KO) was in complete control of the bout, even scoring a knockdown in the third round over Muro (6-14, 5 KO’s). All three judges scored the bout 40-35 for Russell. Russell was on the United States Team in the Beijing Olympics but did not fight. as far as tomorrow's big fight, i'm going with Pacquiao by stoppage between round 6-8 hatton looked a little drained at the weigh-ins, i think his stamina may fade down the stretch against Pacman's pressure style. some reports of friction between Hatton & Mayweather Sr during training camp won't help if they are true. Hatton's defense has improved since he was knocked out by Floyd, but he still reverts to bad habits at times. i think he'll forget his newly found technique when Pacquiao pressures him. Hatton will be his strongest early in the fights and should try to attack Pacman's body nonstop and kill some of the speed Pac brings. overall i think Pacquiao is in a different zone right now, and i really want to see Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Jr. later this year, so not only do i think Pacquiao will win but i also have a rooting interest. on another note Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Juan Manuel Marquez is just about finalized for July 18th. if he gets past Marquez, he'll most likely fight Pacman (should beat hatton) later this year some great individual talent on the televised undercard of the PPV in what are essentially showcase fights: Daniel Jacobs: great MW prospect, 14KO's in 15 wins i believe. gradually stepping up in competition. just fought 8 days ago on Friday Night Fights, winning by 2nd Round KO. he's replacing James Kirkland who was arrested a couple of weeks ago Marty Korobov: i haven't any of his fights, but different analyst have said he's a great prospect at MW as well Erislandy Lara: i think he's going to dominate 154lbs in a couple of years, he's one of 4 highly touted cuban defectors who came over a while ago (along with Yuriorkis Gamboa, Orlandier Solis, & Guilerrmo Riggondeaux). Lara's not as flashy as Gamboa with the handspeed, but he is technically superior, especially on defense. he has all the tools to dominate this weight class in a couple of years. WARLORD1863
It's a tough call. Hatton is going for blood since his loss in the spotlight. The extra motivation may be enough to provide him with better odds. However, Hatton is a very emotional guy, that's what lost him the fight against Mayweather Jr. Emotion has no chance against someone who can calculate every move in a calm and consistent manner. Manny has that calm calculating edge. As for size differential, a two pound difference won't be that much of an advantage for Hatton. Height? Both fighters come in between 5'6", in fact Manny is 1/2 an inch taller (not that it matters). Manny will win by KO in the 9th, but could go into the 10th. It depends on when Hatton stops boxing and starts brawling. Manny will then take full advantage. Edited May 2, 2009 by WARLORD1863

THE OUTSIDER
I hope Pacman pulls it out, but I have a feeling Hatton's gonna win for some reason. Also, I think it's bush for Mayweather Jr to make his comeback announcement on the same day as Pac/Hatton. Is his ego that big that he can't give these guys their moment in the sun? Also, I think it's bush for Mayweather Jr to make his comeback announcement on the same day as Pac/Hatton. Is his ego that big that he can't give these guys their moment in the sun? its being coordinated through Golden Boy, they know alot of casual boxing fans are paying attention to the sport this weekend. they wanted to announce a big matchup to the greatest audience possible. has nothing to do with Mayweather Jr's ego (which is considerable), but its more about the promoters getting attention for the fight. Mayweather Jr. is not the only voice in deciding when a fight gets announced. Nice work GaryHey SU, he's from the DC area, not SC I've got live boxing tonight at the Patriot Center i know that, i'm originally from DC. i know most on this board are from the Maryland/DC/Virginia area. i'm not even in SC anymore, just never updated the location. lol As for size differential, a two pound difference won't be that much of an advantage for Hatton. Height? Both fighters come in between 5'6", in fact Manny is 1/2 an inch taller (not that it matters). i suspect the weight difference when they enter the ring to be greater than 2lbs. Hatton will probably enter the ring over 150lbs, i don't thin Pacquiao will be more than 145. this will not the be the same as a weight drained oscar, Hatton will have rehydrated at least 10lbs between weigh-ins and fight time tonight. What if Pacman wins? Pac-Floyd would be $ even if Hatton wins, i don't think that would put him at pound 4 pound best. i'm thinkin floyd will fight the winner of this fight, whoever it is. Pacquiao will be a bigger $$$ fight, but i suspect if its Hatton, they would probably go to England where they could get 60,000 in one of the arena's and floyd would probably get a big slice of the gate for going overseas

StillUnknown
Who then? Manny's the current P4P, and Hatton is 8, so maybe not, but JMM is third, and he lost to Manny. B-Hop perhaps? pound 4 pound is more about career achievement than who you beat head to head necessarily JMM losses to to Pac are heavily disputed to this day with boxing heads. Half think he won both fights, half think Pac won both fights. the biggest knock on Hatton is that he's a big fish in a small pond as 140 is relatively weak division overall. his biggest win to this day is probably still the Kostya Tszyu fight which was a few years ago the couple of times Hatton has tried to move up for bigger challenges he's looked horrible (at 147 against Luis Collazo a fight which alot of people scored for Collazo, and of course his KO loss to Mayweather Jr.) i would place JMM ahead of Hatton on the strength of beating better opposition. 135 is arguably the most loaded division in boxing the last couple of years and JMM has essentially cleaned it out with two disputed losses to Pacquiao along the way. i would place Hatton probably at 5 on my p4p list with a victory right now my list something like this (retired/semi-retired fighters not listed lol): 1. Manny Pacquiao 2. Juan Manuel Marquez 3. Izzy Vazquez 4. Shane Mosely 5. Paul Williams 6. Shane Mosely 7. Miguel Cotto 8. Ivan Calderon 9. Hatton 10.
