Anyone ever had to file a claim against NationWide?

On my way home last night, I'm sitting at a red light. Light goes green & I proceed to cross the intersection. All of a sudden, out of nowhere & hear srceaching tires & then WHAM! Next thing I know, there's a Mazda Protege parked in my driver's side fender.

A few minutes later, the cops show up & have us move the cars out of the street. This is when I start to discover just how bad the damage is as my car is FWD. I have to fight with it to get it to wobble across the street. Next, I realize the fender is caved in enough to hold & rub the driver door, so I crawl out of the passengers side. The driver side tire is sitting at a 45 degree angle.

Then, the responding officer & myself discover that the guy that hit me has no liscense. No insurance. AND doesn't speak English.

After waiting for a translator to show up, we find out that the car wasn't his. However, it belongs to a relative with the same address, & said relative is insured thru NationWide.

So, this morning, after missing work to try & deal with this, NationWide still hasn't taken a statement from the owner. And tomorrow, their appraiser is suspossed to come out & see my car. Only then, can they tell me if they're going to cover a rental car for me to get back & forth to work.

So, now that you know what happened, has anyone here dealt with an auto claim like this? Do they typically take this friggin' long?

when my sister got into a accident, state farm and my insurance company handled everything before even nationwide came by and did the estimated damaged report. we even had the car fixed before they came out and told them to reimburse us and thats it

I can quickly see this thread taking a turn for the worse...typical tailgate "illegal immigrant" debate thread ;) JK

I got into a little accident a few weeks ago while my buddy was driving. It might take awhile, but he had Geico...they seemed to be semi on the ball on the case.

I have heard Nationwide takes awhile though. Stay on their case, TK.

I was T-boned just like that about two years ago and just went through my own insurance until the at-fault motorist's insurance caught up.

Yeah. I've had the feeling all day that that will end up being what happens. Even though I have full coverage, the only thing I don't have is rental reimbursement. I'd just like to be able to go back to work sometime tomorrow.

I'll be honest. Right now, it's extremely hard for me to not let it go down that path right now.

Do you have full coverage?...If so turn it in to yours or at least get yours involved as far as uninsured motorist.

nationwide will spend awhile determining if they are liable., last similar claim I had took two weeks, just to determine liability.

added

simply because the other driver was at fault does NOT mean the car owners ins will accept liability.

I have full coverage with a $500.00 deductible & no rental reimbursement.

I'm thinking that if I put a boot up my State Farm agent's ass, he'll put two boots up NationWide's ass. Especially since I've been with my agent for 20 years.

Oooh, that's tough. We were in a very similar situation last October. Our parked car was hit by a truck full of drunk teenagers. The driver, of course, was not the owner of the truck. The owner's insured denied the claim stating that the owner did not give the driver permission to drive the car. The driver's insurance denied the claim stating that the owner's insurance was responsible. We have Nationwide. We paid the deductible and the car was repaired. When the driver went to court for the tickets he'd recieved as a result of the accident the judge ordered him to reimburse our deductible within 15 days. Nationwide sued the insurance companies of the driver and owner. No idea what happened, but we were taken care of.

Anyway, what I was trying to get at is to not be surprised if Nationwide denies the claim saying they are not responsible because the owner did not give the driver permission to use the vehicle. It seems to be a common defense.

If you go through Nationwide, have your car repaired at a Blue Ribbon facility.

They think it's a good defense. The law is a bit different in VA.

Thanks Huly. :)

I was rear ended by a guy claiming to have nationwide insurance 1½ weeks ago. It took nationwide that whole time to find out the guy was no longer insured... they are slow as balls! So yea i have to fork out $250 under my uninsured accident policy, my insurance pays for the rental. Damage was 4k total.

My insurance pays to get the car fixed, then they go after him for the $ , its gonna cost him alot more than 4k since he was uninsured, had a expired registration, and he got a ticket for failure to keep a safe distance, bet he thinks twice about driving on a expired reg w/o insurance again.

AS an employee at said company, shhhh; this can be normal. It really depends how quickly the claims adjuster can get in touch with the owner. I work in their claims call center and the one question I hate the most: Where's my rental car?

Personally, I found insurance to just be another racket in a long line of rackets.

My daughter was in an accident last year. She pulled in front of a car and he t-boned her passenger side. It was raining and the roads were wet so she didn't get a ticket. We had Geico at the time. They were right on it. Fixed the other guys car...totaled out her car(just an escort..nothing fancy). Of course shortly after that..they cancelled us...<eyeroll>

Rdskns , it took my insurance company 1 day to get in touch with me, and come look at my car. However it took yours over a week to even call me back, after numerous calls to them, is THAT "normal" practice?

I'm at the bottom- the guy you'd talk to when initially filing the claim. Initial Contact time is one business day. But how quickly, it gets to you have your car looked at and being repaired varies claim to claim.

When you're the claimant, they will contact the insured and the driver if different to get their version. To get a decision towards liability, I think it depends just how quickly they reach the insured and the insured verifies what the claimant told us. They will look at a police report if there is one.

That sucks if your the other party but that's they way it is. If it's pretty clear cut, things will go quickly but it could take as long as your claim. I get plenty of people yelling me that their adjuster: whether it be clmt or insured complaining that adjuster hasn't called them.

In TK's case, just based my experience it will take a while and it wouldn't shock me if they want to deny his claim. NWE will pay if they have to but if they don't have to, they will drag the claim on.

I'd bug the adjuster daily or ask for the adjuster's supervisor.

I think Progressive has the quickest response time from accident to settlement. Each insurance company is different.

I have USAA by the way. For every customer that they displease; they must keep enough happy- hence me still having a job.

I just find insurance and credit cards-to just be a racket.

Yea when i called them yesterday again, they informed me he was no longer insured and had canceled in october. I set up a appointment with my local bodyshop for the 30th on monday to drop it off, still waiting to hear back from travelers about the rental, i dont know how much my daily allowence allows me for one. What sucks is having to fork out $250 for something that wasnt my fault, i hope this guy gets his liscene suspended for no insurance and a expired registration.

And yes progresssive is the fastest, my wife works for them (claims adjuster) but even if i had progressive (i have travlers) she wouldnt be able

to look at my car, conflict of interest :)

Yeah, can't have that conflict of interest. I know one of bosses sister works there and actually is on my team; but she couldn't boss her sister.

I would read your policy- I am shock at how people don't know what coverages they have. If someone makes me mad and I know that they don't have the coverage- I love telling them that. That's something you usually let the adjuster tell them but sometimes I do.

I couldn't be a claims adjuster; I just wouldn't want to deal with people face to face. It's bad enough to listen to them on the phone; especially since at the first report center we are limited in what we can do; I don't want to do that in person.

I almost went to Progressive for car insurance but they wanted to take all my money immediately. So I stayed with USSA and my rates finally came back down. Took 3 years from my last accident.

I hate insurance companies. Hire a lawyer to protect your interests... they will also help you out with medical.

I hate ins companies, lawyers and illegal immigrants.

And Rap
