at first i thought we overpaid for them completely

randle el signed a 7 year 30 mil

lloyd signed 7 year 28 mil

now i was looking though this years WRs signed

Drew Bennett 6 years $30 million

Wes Welker 7 years/$38.5 million by patriots

so looking back we got a good deal on them

because randle el would get $40+ mil contract this year

and lloyd would get $35ish mil

not to mention lloyd and randle el are much younger then bennett and welker.

Post...of...the...day.

It's funny that no one, fans, media, no one takes into account how dynamic the NFL free agent market really is. Just think about when Randle El and Lloyd are in year five of those contracts. Sure, they can hold out, but right now they look like absolute steals. (Well, Randle El for sure, and hopefully Lloyd too.)

Excellent job by you, 909997.

Every WR mentioned in the first post is twice as good as Brandon Lloyd will ever be. Randle El is worth the money because he works hard and is versatile.

Wes Welker and Drew Bennett?????????? WES WELKER???

Give me a break man. I know your blind hatred for Lloyd falls in line with 75% of the other ES chimps out there, but use your head dude....Wes Welker. Lloyd had a down year. Wes Welker man, WES WELKER. Their careers and achievements up to this point are not comprable.

Wes Welker? you kidding me? I can understand paying that for Bennett as he has been consistent. Welker though was just a one year wonder it seems, did he even start in Miami? I remember BOoker/Chambers, and Welker having osme decent games.

where did you see Welkers deal?

The Patriots plan to sign Miami restricted free-agent wide receiver Wes Welker to a seven-year offers sheet worth $38.5 million. Once Welker signs the offer sheet, the Dolphins will have seven days to match it. If they decide not to, they would get the Patriots' second-round draft pick

Wow. Welker got paid!! No way miami matches that offer, they'll get a second round pick out of it. It's not you typical Pats move, I think its kinda :insane:

Good post, 909997. Those contracts will look even better next free agency:cheers:

If they grab a main target to pair with Welker then Tom Brady will have that team looking scary with Maroney. If Welker is their man signing at the position then I'm with you.. it looks a little strange.

He's a great returner, solid wr with great speed and good hands. Dude is tiny though, I think he's only 5'8. Phins fans are going to be upset, he was definitely a fan favorite

brandon lloyd is 25 drew bennett is 28

If u really believe lloyd would get less money then bennett in this years freeagent market ur fooling urself.

The rams signed bennet to 30 mil contract who already have 2 good WR's.

How big of a deal do u think lloyd would have gotten from patriots or jags?

And did u forget nate burleson signed a $50 mil contract last year

also 25 like lloyd

You'll be surprised how good Wes Welker is when he gets playing time.

You can't compare contacts in one year to another. that way you could say that hutchinson got robbed last year. the bigger question is--would you still sign Lloyd for that same amount of money and two draft picks? I wouldn't.

Yeah, so far Lloyd's 23 catches for 365 yrds and 0 TDs has been worth every penny of that $28 mil contract. 3rd and 4th rd picks? No problem.

cant be worst then nate bureleson's 18 catches 192 yards with his $50 mil contract

Pats wouldn't go after someone like Lloyd, the Jags need a real speed receiver and thats not Lloyd.

Look at how Len Pasquarelli jumps all over the Patriots' nuts with the Wes Welker deal, who is a RESTRICTED free agent, mind you.

If the Dolphins do not match the offer sheet, they will receive a second-round pick in the 2007 draft from the Patriots as compensation.

Surrendering a second-round choice for a player of Welker's abilities would be viewed in most quarters, but especially in New England, as a steal. Welker would dramatically upgrade the New England wide receiver corps and the Pats would also benefit by taking him away from a division opponent.

Plus, the Patriots own a pair of first-round choices in the 2007 draft, and can afford to part with a second-round selection for a player of Welker's skills.

Welker, 25, is a terrific, if unheralded playmaker who has earned a spot on the ESPN.com "all unsung" team each of the past two seasons. Used principally as a return specialist in his first two seasons in the league, Welker emerged as a viable receiving threat in 2006, with 67 catches for 687 yards and a touchdown.

Oh yeah, I am sure a 2nd round draft pick and a huge contract is a "steal" for a one-year wonder who is 5'9 and has 1 CAREER receiving touchdown.
