Chiefs' Green Leaves Game On Stretcher

POSTED: 12:07 pm PDT September 10, 2006

Kansas City, MO -- (Sports Network) - Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Trent Green left Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals on a stretcher in the third quarter with an apparent head or neck injury.

With 4:52 remaining in the third frame, Green was flushed out of the pocket by Cincinnati's rush and headed to the right of the field. Green then decided to keep the ball and scrambled five yards before beginning his slide.

As Green began his descent to the ground, Robert Geathers slammed into the quarterback, driving his upper body into the ground. Green remained down on the field for about 11 minutes before being placed on a stretcher and carted off the field.

Before his exit, Green had completed 11-of-15 passes for 90 yards with an interception. He was replaced under center by Damon Huard.

He was just leveled, and wasn't moving. He was sliding, and got hit. Looked like it should have been a flag to me.

He is a class act, hope he will be ok.

I just saw it in a game break, so I'm not sure of the latest.

NFL.com wire reports

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Sept. 10, 2006) -- Kansas City quarterback Trent Green was taken from the field by stretcher after laying motionless following a brutal hit by Cincinnati's Robert Geathers.

Green, who had started 80 straight games, went into a feet-first hook slide when Geathers charged in and appeared to hit Green's head with his shoulder. Green's neck snapped back hard into the turf and he lay motionless for a few moments. He then was taken off on a stretcher, with an attendant holding his hands under Green's helmet.

There was no penalty on the play.

Refs suck. The rule is pretty clear. The QB begins his slide, it's done. And that ALSO means that you are responsible for anything that happens once that QB begins that slide, even if you were already in the air. He could have pulled up and his trajectory was such that there was no way he thought he was going after Trent's legs.

IT was a cheap hit.
