BD
That thread about Casey Bramlet made me check the section on Jason Campbell, and I noticed something weird: http://www.nfl.com/draft/profiles/2005/campbell_jason In the later part of the section, they list QBs hand sizes. Campbell is a big dude, as we all know - 6'4, 225 - but his hand size (9 1/8 inches) struck me as surprisingly small. By comparison, I'm 6'1, 195 - and my hands are 9 1/2 inches... and Ramsey is 6'2, 220, and has 10 inch hands. So I know this may be stupid, but does anyone think this could hamper Campbell at the pro level? This may sound dumb, but everyone knows one of the reasons a QB can play better in bad weather is if they have large hands to get a better grip on the ball (see: Favre's ridiculous 10 3/8s mitts). I know Campbell has looked good in limited play. I know the difference between College and Pro footballs isn't that significant. But I also know the difference it is enough that it infamously bothered Alex Smith (9 3/8s) a ton last year... and I'm just a little worried about it when you consider Campbell's hands are even smaller! http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2005/12/13/SPGIEG788D1.DTL Maybe it's nothing to worry about, but I guess I'll look forward to seeing Campbell perform with an NFL football in bad weather. I hope it rains during a preseason game or something at least. Of course you know what they say ... guys with big hands = big gloves.

BD
wierd- that did cause a lot of problems for daunte culpepper who has a huge fumbling problem b/c of it FYI, Culpepper's hands are the same size as Alex Smith's, 9 3/8s. Both, obviously, have larger hands than Campbell. :paranoid:

Jumbo
I think the thing that's most important about Jason's hands is the way they're located right at the end of his arms, which is where most centers tend to snap the ball.

BD
Charlie Frye has just 8½ inch hands... And we know what a great quarterback he is. I think in general, the exceptions prove the rule (Flutie, etc).

ImmortalDragon
Small hands will be a problem for him, but he might be able to work around it. How were his fumble numbers in college?
Monkart
Ok, who else measured the size of their hands? Didn't have a ruler, had to compare to another body part with a known length. Freaking thread sucks!!!!
jpgirth
What is Rothlisberger's hand size, Campbell reminds me of him. The only concern is a couple of balls fluttered in the preseason.
SkinsTillIDie
Article regarding controversy with Alex Smith's hands: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/chronicle/archive/2005/12/13/SPGIEG788D1.DTL Smith's hand measurement was 93/8 inches, the same as Rodgers'. Coach Mike Nolan insisted his quarterback's hands are not small, that they are "just above the medium, if I had to guess.'' ... "Alex is not a guy coming out who you said has small hands,'' Nolan said. "He has normal hands. I don't know why they came out of his hand.'' So it seems like the top 4 quarterbacks taken in the draft all had roughly the same sized hands, with Fyre being by far the smallest. According to the article, it seems like Smith had more trouble holding on to the "sleaker" NFL ball, rather than having an issue with the size of his hands. georgiaredskin
Hmmmm......now I wonder how small are Antonio Brown's hands?
bobzmuda
Those aren't particularly small hands. Charlie Frye, for example, has 8 1/2 inch hands. They're no Brett Favre monster 10 inch hands though. He gets good RPMs on the ball and didn't seem to lose it in college. At this point I think there are more important things to worry about in Campbell's development than his hands.
