I’d be more inclined to believe JJ McCarthy is a great driver if mom and dad would’ve trusted him with the keys a little more often.

Your conflating dual threat with run first. He was definitely a dual threat. A lot of the most successful quarterbacks in the league right now, I would classify as dual threats, but in the same sense that Drake Maye is a dual threat. Big guys with huge arms that can also run… That is the most common profile of the successful quarterbacks that you see in the NFL right now. That’s Drake Maye.

Correct. I am committing, right now, that I will allow each and every one of you to whack me in the balls with a car antenna as hard as you possibly can if we draft anyone besides Drake Maye at #2.

Absolutely. Most people don’t know anything about how to play QB (I don’t mean that as an insult. I played from age nine through college and coached for a decade before I ever learned anything about quarterbacks and I still don’t know squat compared to a whole lot of people) so they can’t actually evaluate the position but anyone can see if a guy runs fast or looks exciting while he’s playing and that’s how they judge.

His footwork is worse than Maye. His base is way too wide and he takes a big ass target step. His drop is all screwed up also. The McCarthy stuff is just a running gag. It’s like when people were talking about some linebacker named scooter that we cut or dining Eddie Royal at Morton’s for the last twenty offseasons. Don’t fall for it. in the second clip, where he’s scrambling around like I used to do with Bo Jackson on TecmoBowl, he’s playing Maryland. He’s literally running around against a bunch of turtles.

No. The exact opposite. That would be super confusing.

Driskell is the same size as Maye with similar style and measurables (aside from the massive hog) but not as much talent or gloriousness. Pretty clear indicator that we have fallen in love with Drake and will be selecting him with #2.

The only reason we haven’t officially announced Drake Maye as the pick is because the Bears haven’t officially said they aren’t taking him.

I’m going to have to say that Drake Maye is the better prospect, but there are coaches who, philosophically, might see Daniels as a better fit.

I’m an advocate for Maye but the most glaring issue to me with his footwork is his hitch step which was bad both years. He’s always clicking his feet together.
