  1. I like Grant and Danny. They do too much shtick for me, but that's the whole station, aside from that generally I like them. For those of you who don't know how Chad Dukes got the spot... before the format flip, when 106.7 the fan was a guy talk station, Dukes had a show called The Big O and Dukes Show. They actually still do that show as a podcast. This is just my opinion - but they fit in perfectly. They started as a late night show (7pm and later) and eventually moved to the aferrnoon. They were a perfect fit for 106.7, and had a lot of potential to replace Don and Mike (which were big shoes to fill.) Oscar and Chad balanced pretty well and their segments were funny. I loved listening to that show from the start. Then 106.7 did a format flip. Oscar wasn't a big sports guy, at least not to the point of being a Sports Talk host, so he walked away. Dukes stayed on to try to make it work - they paired him with Lavar Arrington. I hated Dukes on that show. Anyways, Lavar eventually left. His show is better now that Lavar is gone, but he's a host that needs a co host to balance him out (in my opinion) and they just don't have it. In addition to that Dukes is just not a smart sports person for a talk show host. He's a shtick and guys talk person. He doesn't have the in depth history of any particular sport. He just doesn't know enough. His claim to fame initially was (essentially): I've been a redskins fan all my life, so sure i'll try hosting a sports talk show in the DC market. As much as I hate what Chad Dukes is now, I recognize it's not his fault. He was set up to fail and was trying to hold on to what was, originally, a HUGE break for him in his career. I can't fault him for that. It's just not a good position for him. Pairing him with Lavar was a terrible management decision. Having him do what he does now is again, terrible management decision. Bring back the old 106.7 station. That station was great. This current version of it is just terrible.
  2. And Lavar Arrington. That hire and train wreck of a host can never be forgotten!
  3. My point was that your criticism of the article was "fearing change" when the main issue outlined was, as you've again confirmed to be a legitimate concern, that your tailgate must show up together to park together. For some that's unreasonable. The ES tailgate is in so many ways not like the average tailgate. Furthermore, telling everyone who wants to tailgate to show up to gates together before they open isn't going to solve the problem, you'll still be separated unless you meet up somewhere and then caravan the rest of the way. I get what you're saying about having more room and allowing for some better parking practices. Maybe the answer is to be able to tell the people directing traffic - "Hey, I have 3 more cars coming" and they park you in the next spot then allocate the next 3 spaces for your party arriving later. Or maybe that would create too many issues and the best thing is to say - tailgaters in these lots, nontailgaters in those lots. They can direct the parking of the nontailgaters to improve the experience, and let the tailgating lots be a free for all like all lots currently are. I'm open to a lot of suggestions. But my main concern is always going to be - How do you improve this and allow tailgaters to still meet up at the stadium? Even if the Redskins had a plan last time, I think it's clear they didn't communicate it very well. It doesn't help that our biggest local media groups have a bigger interest in pot stirring than in trying to help out stadium goers with new policies
  4. the whole conversation about having to caravan to the game if you have multiple cars trying to tailgate together? you have to meet up somewhere to caravan to the parking lots, so I would assume most would meet somewhere just outside the stadium, and when everyone's arrived head over to the stadium. since, from my experience, most tailgates include people coming from all over the place. you said - yeah, that's how it has to work. that's the main complaint in the article you posted as "fearing change" it's not about fearing change, it's about a serious question that no one has an answer other than "meet up somewhere and drive together from there to the game" to and for many that's just not a reasonable solution.
  5. you base this on what? i've heard plenty of rants from Sheehan, Lovero, Czabe, Mitchel, Doc Walker, and Al Galdi. In fact, Cooley is the only current host I haven't really heard anything super negative from - that's because he cares about his relationships with the players, coaches, allen, and snyder too much to go overboard. they've gone on plenty of rants. just because they don't make up bull**** about snyder and allen doesn't mean they are censored/filtered/etc. there's plenty of factual reasons to rip snyder and allen, there really isn't a need to make things up. this is all based on the fact that years ago snyder fired riggens and mitchell for being overly critical, and removed the washington post's tickets for being critical, and the way snyder handled the redskins game broadcast rights with WJFK. not only has he not fired his current lineup of hosts, who have all been plenty negative including specifically calling out snyder, but he's hired back mitchell. it's like 10+ year old bull**** drama between the redskins and the washington post, and the redskins and WJFK. it's all be documented. quit buying into the nonesense. because the people that listen to 106.7 the fan know no different. they get away with saying whatever they want. it is what it is. the ****ty thing is the washington post's ability to get away with it, because they actually have significant influence over people. from my experience whatever narrative the washington post is running with on any given issue is the overwhelming view of the general public in the area. there's no one to ever challenge it.
  6. everyone at 106.7, the washington post, and plenty of people that post on ES. there's a discussion about this going on in the I hate lavar and chad thread. it goes on multiple places. people refer to 980 as filtered, they say people can't say things they want to, they just make up things that the hosts say, it's actually quite ridiculous. the show is on free airwaves, anyone can listen to it. it's streamed through espn980.com for free, including mobile devices. every segment is uploaded to the audio vault, also free. it's incredible what people say, it's quite clear they never listen despite it being free and easy to listen to. i don't know why i bother defending them, the people that feel this way aren't interested in the truth they're interested in a specific narrative.
  7. You guys realize Kevin Sheehan has called Allen an idiot multiple times right? He's accused the owner of siding with Griffin and firing Shanahan, who according to Sheehan was the best football guy to be in the org since Marty, and put Allen in place who did a terrible job. Saying that Snyder put his relationship with Griffin ahead of running a quality organization. That Allen is not fit for the GM role. Among other things. Sheehan still has a job. Is still ranting against the owner and quarterback (he stopped ranting against Allen once he hired McCloughan) on an almost daily basis. But don't let that get in the way of your "Snyder wont let anyone on 980 talk critically about him or the team" arguments.
  8. Cooley wasn't on the show monday. What are you talking about?
  9. You can roll your eyes and make fun of us, but the main concerns outlined are ones you've confirmed to be an issue. People travel from all over to attend redskins games, some from hours away (I have no idea how they do it, but we know people do it.) Getting into the lot is a pain in the ass as it is when you know what you're doing, where you're going, and you arrive early enough - trying to get 4+ cars together in a lot beforehand then caravanning to the lot? Why should 3/4 of the tailgate have to wait in a separate lot for 30+ minutes if someone is running late, just for the sake of being able to park near each other? I'm willing to try whatever to make the entire process better for everyone, but I'd like to see some more thought put into the plan than just direct where every car parks, put the tailgaters at the back, and if you don't show up together then too bad...
  10. I blame it on people who don't go to the games often enough to understand how it all works, and by extension the organization for creating a stadium that is not friendly to the novice. everyone i know that goes regularly has found a way to enjoy it (minus the terrible football play part) and it's always the people that don't go often that have trouble. there's a list of classic mistakes people make that really ruin the entire experience for them. the team certainly has some responsibility in that because they built it and decide how to do things, but to a certain extent so do the people going to the game that don't put any effort into finding out the tricks. the big one is just the pure lack of respect for how horrible traffic is in the DC area... the UMD game a week ago had the same problem. DC area has terrible traffic on a random Saturday afternoon, of course it's much worse when you have almost 100k people trying to navigate to a specific area in addition to everything else. even moreso when it's a prime time game with rush hour in the mix. i don't know how they can build a stadium in DC (or just outside) that won't have that problem...
  11. yup. such is life, the irresponsible people ruin it for the rest of us. people can be pricks. no common decency or courtesy or respect for the fellow fan, even if they're cheering for the same team.
  12. Cool, I figured that was probably the only way to do it. At this point, given FedEx's reputation and the number of redskins fans that just flat out refuse to go to games there, I'm willing to try anything. If that means moving us tailgaters to a specific lot(s) and making it so a crew has to meet up somewhere and caravan then fine, I'm willing to try that. It is much nicer just being able to meet a spot in the parking lot and having one car show up early enough to claim the area for the rest... that has worked very well for my group for the last 4 or so years.
  13. so, how do you tailgate there when you have 4 or 5 different vehicles showing up? you have to meet up somewhere and then ride in together? hope you don't get separated? what if you have, like ES does, a ton of vehicles?
  14. we always start packing up our tailgate about an hour before the game, opening up our spots to people showing up. i don't think separating tailgating to certain areas is going to work. you can't get majority of people showing up to understand that: a - they need to show up more than 60-45 minutes before kickoff b - 495 is not the only way to/from the stadium c - you need a pass to park at the stadium (i see about 3-5 cars turned around just while i'm going through the entrance damn near every game) you think you can isolate tailgating to certain areas and not cause problems? hah. maybe if they were building a new stadium they could organize the parking that way. the way things are currently set up I don't see it happening. plus what happens when you put everyone in that area? how hard is it going to be to meet up with your friends? they've floated this idea of organizing the parking more, it failed miserably last time. too many people and too many of them want to tailgate. maybe the best idea is to isolate those that don't want to tailgate. if it bothers you that much you can go out of your way to find the lot and you don't have to worry about parking near friends. i don't know. they need to dig up that whole lot and redo it but they never will. too many functional issues.
  15. sounds like my tailgate crew is breaking apart people just sick of the money and time commitment. i don't blame them, it was not easy deciding to renew this year. i love that they brought in a new gm and i've liked gruden from the start, but back to back sub 5 win seasons... it got nasty at the stadium towards the end of those seasons, two in a row is rough.
  16. you better hope they don't. they only did it because the team sucked and no one would go to any games. they won't be doing that if they're competing for something.
  17. Some feedback event they're hosting for ticket holders or something
  18. Who's going to the fan forum?
  19. there's a picture at the end * autoplay video warning * Akron, Ohio, Police Seek Man Who Defecated on 19 Cars
  20. lol, i think dude hit the wrong person with a snowball http://wtop.com/arlington/2015/03/snowball-fight-turns-violent-outside-carpool/
  21. i wear standard workout/basketball/whatever shorts over my bike shorts because i just don't want to be seen looking like that
  22. still too cold to bike in the morning for me. i don't have the gear required to ride comfortably in 35-45 degrees but the evenings are starting to be warm enough that it's about time to start back up... still waiting for my yard to dry up a bit, since the bikes are in the basement. don't want to tear up my grass, it has a rough enough life as is
  23. If this has been posted before, I apologize. I know someone in the area that was telling me about this and I refused to believe him so he sent me this. http://www.cleveland.com/euclid/index.ssf/2015/03/more_than_100_stealth_egg_atta.html While I feel terrible for the old man, there are so many hilarious parts to that story. Especially the ones where it happens RIGHT IN FRONT of the cops and they still can't figure it out LOL.
  24. Do you recall what point levels were required for the three jersey levels? I don't really buy redskins stuff anymore. I would maybe consider this for the jersey but i think my current card gives me such better regards i could use the cash back from that to buy the jersey and come out ahead. Assuming I even wanted to buy another jersey... Otherwise, thanks.
