  1. Of course he should mention legislation. That's his role and he's also an American citizen. Gonna restrict his freedom to worship now?
  2. If you read the Hill article closely, it says people are speculating its because of that prayer. Ryan's office has denied that and won't say.
  3. The problem you are ignoring though in statement A is: what about the first commandment to love God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength? The bible reveals God as not just loving, but also infinitely holy and righteous. It gives revelation from Him regarding His standards, which often are different than what we naturally think, since His thinking isn't skewed by sin. He reveals what He thinks and desires regarding subjects like sex (among many other things like justice and mercy). These are not minor things to God. He desires right motive and right action. Might you be substituting how you feel for what God says? God commands us to abstain or flee from sexual immorality. I am loving my neighbor by not engaging in sexual sin with him/her, even though my body or mind may be struggling with wanting to. Statement B: I agree 100%. What do you do when you come to the conclusion that the sexual acts in statement A are "the plight of your fellow man"? Do you use your treasure and seek to compassionately rescue him?
  4. I consider them to be that sex is given by the Creator to be enjoyed in heterosexual marriage. What you choose to do within that is your choice, as long as its consensual. I have used birth control in my marriage, I am not against it. I'm not about controlling people however, especially in this area through law, but there is also nothing wrong with holding forth a standard and a message about what you believe is right. I agree. And would add that following the greatest commandments necessitates listening to what God says and doing it what He expects? Right or wrong?
  5. Thankfully, expositional preaching is making a comeback among many churches. Meaning we preach what the bible says and how it applies to us, not what we want to hear, what we need to hear. To that end, I think a lot of what you hear is reactive to changing cultural norms. Sex is hot-button issue. Over a hundred years ago, the issue was alcohol, and how it destroys marriage and family, and thus many Christians championed temperance and prohibition.
  6. So, my question for you as a Christian, does the church sacrifice holy standards for the sake of "they will do it anyway"? Or does it continue to preach biblical standards on sexuality?
  7. Even more disturbing. Thanks for that. We now live in a world where people live out the part of a horror film villain and are proud of it on Facebook. I just wish his name wasn't blacked out. Let me catch him doing that to my wife or daughter (or any woman really). He'd have even a harder time getting girls after I was done.
  8. I was blissfully unaware of this incel thing. Truly disturbing. The unintended negative effects of technology.
  9. RE: Parental leave. I will admit, I thought this was law. It isn't in the US, which is the only major nation to not have it. Heck Japan offers 52 weeks for the father. What are the implications of this economically in the US? I am for 12 weeks at least paid for mothers. There are obviously lots of complexities to this as well.
  10. Def Thor 2 and Ragnarok. Thor 2 sets up the Reality Stone and Ragnarok leads into Infinity War. Plus its got cool 80's sci-fi synth music AND Jeff Goldblum with his melt stick. Avengers 2 sets up the character of Vision. Must watch also
  11. Not American news, but rather from Sweden. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5654845/Swedish-woman-raped-sexually-assaulted-Afghan-migrant-teenagers-met-outside-bar.html?ito=social-twitter_mailonline
  12. Amen. I'm 44 and seen a lot of movies. I didn't dislike any MCU movies (I didn't see Spiderman). I thought they were good, considering what genre they were in. For instance, the original Thor delivered a great story and lesson on pridefulness vs. humility, sacrifice, and redemption. I also thought DC's Justice League was a good movie too, just not as good as Avengers. So, preach on brother.
  13. Stop please. You should put that in spoiler tags. I'm gonna stop coming in this thread even if you guys are gonna hint at the plot.
  14. As a church pastor, I have a pretty good bead on the hundreds of pro-life Evangelicals in our congregation, and I can tell you, with a few exceptions, I am way more politically aware than them, and I've never even heard of this Kevin Williamson fellow. Sounds like an idiot. This on the other hand, I can get behind. https://www.russellmoore.com/2016/03/31/does-the-pro-life-movement-want-to-punish-women/
  15. Many reject contraception on the grounds that it is perpetuates the mindset that its morally right to consider children as unwanted, which is the thinking that leads to abortion. However, that doesn't really help you, because your statement appears to be factually unfounded. http://blog.secularprolife.org/2014/07/you-can-be-pro-life-and-pro.html Nobody I know personally is against sex ed, except if it promotes abortion or is given to kids too young (such as 8 year olds). Google "orphan care" and tell me the demographics of the organizations that show up. Huh? Haven't women had paid maternity leave for decades? I know folks who run some these centers. You're pretty far from the truth. See, I have a link too: https://www.weeklystandard.com/crisis-pregnancy-centers-in-crisis/article/2009771 Go for it if it makes you feel better. But it will ultimately be futile since we have a fundamental different view of what is moral.
  16. You won't get disagreement with me on this. I believe we live in metaphorical Babylon.
  17. These same people would not have applied Romans 13 to Obama. I know, because I did and openly had it denied by some. It applies to all leaders. And although King Saul was generally a bad king, David recognized that he was the king and honored him as God's choice despite his badness. This is such an ignorant answer. The "anti-abortion crowd" is not so monolithic. Some of the people historically on point for women's rights and temperance have been Christians. It is not as much as used to be, I admit that. But don't believe everything you read or hear in your circles of likeminded folks.
  18. I'm hearing Carnage will be in it, created to stop Venom. The trailer shows two symbiotes. But yeah, you need Spiderman.
  19. Could Infinity War be the next Phantom Menace? I don't think so, but this author seems to be a pessimist. https://screenrant.com/avengers-3-infinity-war-disappointing-bad/

  21. I think its a sign that the church has embraced pragmatism and become like the rest of the world, despite their claim to be different.
  22. Its almost self-fulfilling in a way. But there is no denying that America is moving into a post-Christian era. And I don't necessarily have a problem with that. Because that is when the church truly shines and grows, in times when it IS the outsider, especially during persecution. It a fear of change or loss of power and position that motivates this. Just like it would any other people group. We're supposed to be different, or so the NT says.
  23. I think he means that their perception is not merited in reality.
  24. Not defending the merit of the position, only the reality of the feeling and perception among many. And this is a big part of the problem.
