  1. It blows my mind that everyone makes a big deal about Collins not playing linebacker. He does. He’s not going to say that’s his position. Safeties make more money, right? So he’s just protecting himself from getting labeled and paid as one. I don’t think he gives a damn about what he asked to do inside of a football scheme. No different then TE’s saying they lined up more at receiver when they get franchised. Collins has always been a hard worker and a team guy. He’ll do whatever gets him in a position to get paid as long as he gets paid as a safety.
  2. I mean I’m hoping this would be an instant release of Christian and if anything we’d roll into the season with Leno at LT and Moses at RT with cosmi and Lucas as swings. Then roullier scherff Schweitzer flowers and Charles on the interior. There is your 9. Ismael would be 10 as a backup C. If you only keep 3 tackles I would submit Lucas is probably the one to drop even though he was solid last year.
  3. I don’t disagree with the better player or anything argument. But this team has legit chemistry as a team and along the line. Hell flowers came back here for the Oline room. I don’t like the idea of jettisoning a team leader like that who has fought through injuries and is genuinely a solid player and highly thought of in the locker room. I’m all for bringing him in but would rather still keep Moses drop Christian and pay the extra money for legit depth all along the line.
  4. No but the point is valid that we could have gotten way more in return for him than we did but they screwed that up. Or if it didn’t happen in the first place and he was still here we could have let him walk for a high comp pick or it’s basically a 3 year deal for $20M a year which isn’t terrible for how good he is.
  5. Right? I’d rather have a QB that’ll slam some beers with me at the tailgate then go punk Tom Brady.
  6. The question is, “Would you be willing to ship them Heinicke straight up for Wilson?” I’m not sure that would be very palatable.
  7. Not sure what your list of cheap QBs are that are out there. But I include Fitzpatrick on that list and at this point in their careers I’m taking him over Newton all day. Hell I may even take Trubisky over him right now given age and injury history.
  8. I wouldn’t trade for a single QB out there. None, aside from Watson, really make us significantly better. We do need to have a competent third guy tho because Heinecki and Allen both seem a little fragile. You can hate it, but Trubisky and Fitzpatrick are both athletic guys that could be had on bargain deals without giving up any draft picks and could reasonable at least keep the team competitive in a backup role if called upon. Plus both are similar athletically or mobility wise to our guys in this offense so that’s beneficial to the oline if we had to sub a guy in. I guess I’d be ok for like a 6th rounder to Jax for Minshew for that same reason and he’s still be on a rookie deal. Not sure why it quoted you kdawg but won’t let me delete the quote box.
  9. It’s a tough one for me too. As I’ve said before, Watson is the ONE guy out there that I would be willing to be aggressive for in terms of guys available via trade. I can hardly imagine giving up 3 firsts for a player and I’m not saying I would or wouldn’t but I would at least consider it. I hate the idea of giving up one of our coveted young dlinemen, however, devils advocate says if we unloaded one then obviously that saves us some cap room in the future. Ie if we sent Allen away (again not advocating) then you have ion coming back and settle that will cost less to keep around although it gives less depth. Again, a part of me will probably sigh in relief if someone else takes him because I’m wary of it all and probably would prefer to stay the course but as you said, he’s a special player.
  10. Per usual I agree on the free agent side. Would be great if we can even just uncover even ONE guy like McKissic or Thomas this year that simply fits our system and thrives in it when given a chance. Still makes me sad we couldn’t pry Njoku away from Cleveland last year for a reasonable or even steal of a deal. He’d be great to pair with Thomas but that ship sailed.
  11. I’m not sure where you would draw that comparison. Minshew is mobile. In 23 games 37 TDs to 11 ints. He has 1 rushing TD and 4 fumbles, not sure how many lost but still nearly 3:1 td to turnover ratio. 5500 passing yards and 500 on the ground. How does that even remotely compare to Grossman? Not a fan of his completion percentage around 63% but he is on the worst team in the league.
  12. I would be most interested in Minshew. Durable and can make off schedule plays. Infectious personality and could probably be had for a much later pick than any of these other guys especially since they’ll have Lawrence. I would be ok with this and a lot higher on it then just about all the others mentioned given their cost and poor track records. Anyone talking about pedigree of former early picks that haven’t lived up to it just confused me right now. No thanks. I hope so too but that was under his premise of thinking the team needed a year or two so he wanted to see what the young guys could do. He clearly made the switch this year because he felt they were much closer than he anticipated (sure at first it was a division thing but I think we can all see the defense is contender worthy). I’m hopeful but much less confident we will follow that same path this offseason but obviously hope we do.
  13. Would rather have rivers on a modest contract through free agency than trading picks for someone...and then also paying big money for them.
  14. I would be on the lookout for a lot of guys this offseason taking one year deals at or below what they would expect in a normal free agency. With the cap going down next year plus all the COVID stuff, teams can’t pay as much so I would expect guys to actually want short deals so they can bet on themselves and get a hefty long term deal on the backside of all this stuff in the hopes the cap goes back up in 2022.
  15. Dude Darnold is absolute trash. Basically the only QB that’s been worse than him the past few years was Haskins. HARD pass. I’d toss them a 6th at best and obviously they wouldn’t bite aka the hard pass. It blows my mind we just got burned by Haskins and people would even consider another huge first round bust, one that is definitely a bigger bust than Haskins given he was considered a much better prospect and drafted much higher. If Smith retires I’m all for signing a vet FA but I do NOT want to trade away Draft capital (see draft results this year and impact of having a high percentage of rookie contracts for your cap) for someone AND pay salary in a lower cap year. Still can’t believe we couldn’t hit McLaurin on even a single slant with a chance to make a move and leave. Everything he got was underneath and coming back to the ball. If smith can only throw 8 yards then you HAVE to be getting McLaurin and even Cam Sims on some shorter routes like crossers and slants that they can make a guy miss or outrun them and make a big play.
  16. Was just making a joke about the mood swings of so many fans on our players, especially QBs. I liked what I saw from Heinicke but just a little hyperbole making fun of ourselves because up until a few weeks ago plenty of people didn’t even think much of chase young. I will be very interested in our QB play tomorrow night no matter who is in.
  17. Kirk Cousins: he picks up meaningless garbage stats at the end of games and isn’t any good. Taylor Heinicke: he could be our franchise qb. LOL
  18. I’m really excited for him to play today. Sans mclaurin and Gibson somebody has to make some more plays.
  19. No to Stafford. KDawg is on the right track - this would be almost the worst thing we could do. Navigating the cap, especially when you have such a great young nucleus of players as we do that we'll want to keep most of, requires that you do not overextend with that "one piece away" mindset. It's hilarious to me because this is exactly what we've all hated about our offseasons for so long and now we are finally building the right way and people immediately think a guy that's never won a playoff game is going to put us over the edge and want to mortgage draft capital and cap (which equates to sacrificing an Allen or a Payne etc down the road). Stafford is a better QB than Smith, sure. But what we would give up to get him would cost us far more than what he would bring us, and again i'll emphasize he's never won a playoff game or hardly even gotten his team there. Sure, the Lions are a bottom dweller, however, franchise QB's are supposed to elevate their team out of that. Holding on to our draft picks to acquire the LB/WR/OL talent we need going forward and using our salary cap to keep the young talent locked up here going forward and add some more key contributors (McKissic/Thomas/Darby/Fuller types) is our meal ticket to then being able to pay Payne/Allen/McLaurin/Sweat etc down the line, all of which will be bills coming due in successive years, every year. The key is to find our guy in the draft before Smith hangs it up or if the Allen project fails you're ready to plug him in. But some bloated contract is how we reverse course and end up seeing guys walk down the road. And that doesn't even include trading away picks that we need to keep.
  20. I’ll take the 3 guys on our roster right now over any other combination anyone is throwing out there. Haskins has shown no worse and imo better than anything darnold or Rosen have done and that’s more an indictment on them than anything. I don’t know much about Stafford the leader/man but I know that is as much as anything right now with our culture and going out to grab a guy like that goes against everything Rivera has done this year in the offseason and season. He wants to build his in house team. He brought in Kyle Allen but I don’t see him mortgaging for stafford when he believes in Allen. IF smith retires then I’d predict we get someone earlier than later in the draft and it’s him Allen and haskins for more in house competition which is what he’s done from day one to build this culture of earning it.
  21. Loved it. But (happy Gilmore coach voice from beginning of movie) by God what a hit.
  22. How about the ****ing late hit? Isaiah Wright is for real. Another example of Rivera playing the right guys when they’ve earned it through competition in practice. Where the hell has this play calling been? Getting Mclaurin involved early. I know we all know it but good lord he is SPECIAL. He has everything. For a smaller guy he is strong as hell and in addition to everything else he’s special after the catch too.
