So according to WalterFootball's latest mock, Olu Fashanu is slated to go 18 to the Bengals. I would not be opposed to sliding up to 17, if he was there.

Trading up to draft him and also signing Smith would be perfect for me. Fashanu is only 21 and needs work as a run blocker apparently but the tools (even if they aren’t top end elite) are there to be a good starting LT.

Corner - What scheme do we run?  Can Forbes/St Juste be coached up?  Will an improved pass rush up their game?

I think right now, I’d rank it corner, WR, TE, DL, corner again, and then FS.

Yeah- if we are planning on running press man, we probably need a bunch of corners, maybe ST Juste can do it but Forbes would be pretty  much useless there.

CB is a huge need. I hope we address it in FA and the draft.

I've been banging the table for him since before the season was over.

I think the media caught up to the film on him and also he tested really well and looked good at the combine. He seems like he can do it all at TE and went from like a 4th/5th in mocks to as high as late 2nd.

He definitely caught my eye at the combine.

I got to study the mid to late round LTs now.  I already watched plenty of Fashanu, Guyton, Morgan.  But i need to hit Mims, Fautanu.

Feels at a minimum a possibility that they are headed back into the first Id guess somewhere between 20-32.

    .

Maybe add Patrick Paul and Kingsley Suamataia? Then you have all the big OTs covered from mid first to our seconds.

Anyone think they might trade up into the first for Bowers? Give Errz someone to take under his wing? How far do you think Bowers can fall?

Bowers didn’t participate in the Georgia Pro day (didn’t at combine either). Claims to still be recovering from ankle, and is planning to workout for teams in April before the draft.

I wouldn’t be able to say where he will go yet because he measured small (6’3 243 at combine).

He film is great but that’s not great size for a TE. I would be really interested in his athletic testing.

I'd love to add a really high rated wr in fa but not thinking it's real likely. We'll prob get a good one along the way though and count on the draft for at least one of the guys who look at least like strong additions if not a jj, ceedee or Higgins.

Mike Williams from Chargers could be an option, the Lynn connection and he is a big time player (when healthy)

In all fairness I lived 30 minutes outside of Seattle in federal way and the stereotype of Seattle is True. Rains an awful lot (maybe not hard but light rain) and is very gloomy.

    Summers are great though!

Pretty much has to be LT at 36 or 40. Maybe we trade back into the 1st for one.

I think the Howell trade makes this even more likely.

I think there will be a OT run.

Trading up from 36 in second to a late first round pick (25-32 picks) would cost between 590 and 720. 36th pick is worth 540. Our 3 3rd rounders are worth 255, 200, and 100 respectively.

Trading 100, which is practically a 4th, to get the last OT and get a 5th year makes a ton of sense to me.

I would also consider it for a pure BPA guy who slides before KC or Baltimore can grab him.

How can the Vikings get an A-?  They let Kirk Cousins walk and signed Sam Darnold.

    That's like F----------

I was somewhat coming around to some of PFF stuff, and then this.

Yeah QB should be like 50% of their grade. They fail.

I'll die on the hill opposing the theory that it kills a highly touted rookies career, if there is another youngish QB on the roster.  We hear experts support the 1 QB theory every year. Gotta trade Howell if we take a QB. Can anyone ever recall a proven QB say being handed the job was what made him succeed? Or a failed QB, blame a younger lessor QB on the roster for his failure? Is there any proof? It seems all psychological, so if you aint a sports psychologist understand why I climb my hill waiting for proof to knock me off.

If the QB is that fragile mentally that he is derailed by looking over his shoulder at his backup, and not by a Micah Parsons at 25mph with a clear path to taking his head off because our LT got confused by a stunt, his chances of succeeding as a franchise QB are very low.

The position commands mental toughness; first and foremost over physical IMO. It all starts in camp, where competition abounds. Building up to the game day ultimate competition test.

I think it has less to do with the QB psyche than pressure on coach/decision makers. If QB1 struggles, coaches could start looking at QB2 with more interest when they should be investing all of their time in making the QB1/coach relationship work.

Sort of like if you were married but your ex girlfriend lived next door…

    But I also agree generally.

You just know Ron is gonna start putting the blame on other people if washington makes the playoffs with the roster that is being assembled He is so an arrogant that i can't stand him.

He’s just going to blame Snyder like Shannahan did. And revisionist history about all the players he wanted but somehow didn’t get because of Snyder.

I wish he would go coach college where be might do a decent job versus being a ESPN talking head; no one should care about his opinions.

Ridgeway came from the Cowboys. They liked him enough they kept only one QB on the roster. DQ will keep him around

Yeah I assumed Ridgeway would be our backup. I thought he was ok here.

Our edge rotation isn't good, but it should be passable for a year.  None of our edges except maybe Ferrell are starting caliber, much less Probowlers like the players we've had on our line every year since 2008.  We're going to need Allen and Payne to do the heavy lifting on the pass rush, and blitz Jamin and Luvu a ton in order to generate consistent pressure.

I'm worried about our ability to stop the run.  Luvu should help there, and hopefully Chinn has a bounce back season after two where he struggled.  And hopefully Jamin comes back healthy and plays well.  But we are still pretty thin in the middle.  The truth is we're rebuilding one of the worst defenses in the NFL and it's going to take significant resources to get them championship caliber.  We're not going to be able to get it done this off-season.  Our first priority is to bring in a QB and build a proper offense around him so we can develop him, and the defense will likely suffer for it in the short term.

I agree with your first point; we don’t have true pass rushers (maybe Fowler). But literally every player we signed improved our run defense. It’s a huge strength of Ferrell, Chin, and Luvu. Not sure about Armstrong.

The defense will be at least average.

Then why did you just add a Vet back up and have 2 on the team?

Playing devil’s advocate-SF has had to play all their QBs before due to injury and GMAP could want 3 quality QBs on roster.

Or they have a possible trade worked out for Howell if a team doesn’t land the QB they want in draft.

Early 2nd because of the rookie contract for 4 years. Because 2 years are gone 3/4 now still a lot up in the air.

My hope now is we hold Howell until preseason and trade him for a 2025 2nd or 3rd when a team has a QB injury.

We need a vet DB who can control traffic from the middle of the field and drastically improve the communication of the group.  That's not Chinn, who is basically a linebacker.  We need another Bobby McCain or Ryan Clark.  We've always suffered to reach our potential on defense when we haven't had that kind of presence in the middle of the field.

I wish we'd been able to deepen our IDL rotation too, because I'm not convinced our backups can make the roster next year.  But we can still get someone really good in the draft, where the second round is going to be a sweet spot for the position.

FA isn’t over yet-Keim said to expect more moves and I bet one is a CB or FS our coaches like.

Yeah, right now, the 1st round locks are:

QBs (4):  Caleb, Male, Jayden, JJ

    TE(1):  Bowers

WR (4):  MHJ, Nabers, Odunze, Thomas

OT (7):  Alt, Fashanu, Fuaga, Latham, Fatanu, Guyton, Mims

    IOL (2):  JPJ, Barton

    Edge (3):  Turner, Verse, Latu

    DT (1):  Murphy

    CB (3):  Arnold, Mitchell, Wiggins

    S (1):  Dejean

That's 26 players.  Now, guys will rise (like Robinson for example).  I do think those 26 are 1st round locks.  The only bubble guy is Barton from my list.

I think there will be more pass rushers than 3. Darius Robinson, Chop Robinson most likely and some other freak athletic surprises. Also, Jenkins at DT, IMO.

…But we paid nothing for him.  It's well worth the risk IMO.  And some guys are wired differently.  Adrian Peterson was an animal as to his work ethic and desire and digesting Ekeler he seems to be made of similar cloth.  So am more optimistic than the standard older RB signing.

I'd add pass catching types like him can thrive a bit longer.  Remember Larry Centers as an example?  He was good through about 33.

Also Ekeler supposedly a big time leader -- locker room guy.

Exactly. The figures they came out show how little we are paying and he can still catch passes out of the backfield even if we don’t use him to bang between the tackles anymore. We have other RBs who can carry the load. Just need to give him some touches on 3rd down, etc.

I see it as a better McKissic with upside.

$9M guaranteed over 3 years is backup money.

Yeah probably getting paid like 4/4/8 with first two guaranteed and last year either getting renegotiated to extend  or cut if he’s bad.
