  1. Last Year At Marienbad (B&W, French, 1961). Slow-paced and deliberate, revolving around the concept of memory and it's degradation over time. As the story unfolds, questions, motives, and confusion push the mystery further. Very much art-house with great cinematography. A little longer than it should have been time-wise, but worth the unique experience.
  2. Space Station 76. I thought it was pretty good with a couple laugh-out-loud moments. Great music and outstanding retro set design. For a comedy it actually had some dark and sad moments and situations, which surprised me. All of the actors and actresses did well and I enjoyed their performances, even Patrick Wilson's Burgundy-esque role.
  3. Yup to everything. And nice play on words at the end there
  4. Yeah Ridley has pushed Blomkamp to the back burner. There is some badass concept art that Blomkamp himself released, which includes Newt and Hicks. Just the thought of Hicks being back gets me pumped up!
  5. The plan, so far anyway, is to have Neill Blomkamp's Alien sequel take place after Aliens with a grown-up Newt. Supposedly Blomkamp and Weaver had a way not to retcon 3 and 4 entirely.
  6. As with others here, the trailer looks (and feels) like it's not bringing anything new to the table, except for the back-burster. I'm hoping I'm wrong. I want this franchise to be salvaged, not fall into Terminator purgatory, where the exact same movie has been made four times. For the record, T1 and T2 are probably my favorite films ever. Just saying that the plots are similar. As with Prometheus, the landscapes and aesthetics look beautiful.
  7. That would definitely be awesome and could possibly redeem (and expand/explain) Episode I. I'm all for movies that dig into lore and fill the gaps. Seriously this would excite me so much. As Rogue One has done (and hopefuly the Han Solo story will too), it kind of soft-retcons the prequels in a way, removing the bad after-taste. I'm still hoping for an HK-47 appearance though...he'd be super-old and extremely annoyed at all meatbags. Imo, HK would be the perfect villain for the Han movie directed by Lord and Miller.
  8. Edward Scissorhands. It had been years, maybe 25 of them (ugh, getting old sucks), since I saw it last. I picked up the dvd for $1 a couple months ago and finally got around to seeing it. Very engaging and I loved the play on contrast. Edward's arrival into the pastel suburb was a neat culture shock, especially the goth black-leather gimp-suit clashing with the '60's conservative style. And the tone and situations were surprisingly sexual, but I suppose that was to mimic the real-life mid to late 60's that were about to burst at the seams.
  9. Thanks. I'll have to call them again...trying to get a straight answer from them on which channels are included has been difficult. Does NBA TV carry all games though? I figure that would be League Pass and I know local teams (wizards) would be blacked out if it's anything like MLB.TV.
  10. Does anyone have Dish? I'm thinking about getting it but I wanted to confirm the regional sports channels. Does the "120+" package include Comcast for Wizards games?
  11. I think I understand your concerns but you're not watching Marvel's current business model - characters never die and only #1 issues sell. No series goes to 50 issues anymore. Hell, Doctor Strange was rebooted (AGAIN) in less than 12 months, Captain Marvel rebooted twice, Moon Knight rebooted twice, X-Men rebooted to #1 several times in the last 6 years. Any new story arc or ceeative team now constitutes, or is enough to sell, a new first issue. Poor movies can critically damage a comic property. Fantastic Four comics were already selling horribly (less than 30k copies a month, which is the magic cancellation point) and the final movie put the nail in the coffin. The FF are DOA. There is nothing Marvel could, or can, do to revive the property except give it some time off and hope to generate anticipation upon a return. Now imagine sales of the first issues of all the rebooted X-Men series upon their return...lots of money rolling in.
  12. Edit - Sorry, I just read some of your previous posts, you're aware of Fox screwing up. I also grew up on the 90's X-Men and the original Age of Apocalypse. Basically, Fox destroyed every film property they owned. You should check out the timeline, script rewrites, drafts, production, and hiring contracts of the last FF film. Fox put Marvel in this tough position. The Fox-owned characters are D.O.A. and Marvel is now trying to salvage them. Movies sell comics in today's market. Great movies sell ever more comics and LOTS of merchandise.
  13. Love this trailer. Outstanding shots of Donnie Yen, that bone-chilling eclipse, and the TIE fighter rising up. I absolutely love the cinematography. I've been more excited for Rogue One than I ever was at any point for TFA.
  14. Saw it last night and I really enjoyed it. The intro scenes' humorous twist was great. Not a perfect movie by any means but certainly entertaining. This also felt more like TOS, as this film finally settles in with the cast and characters and allows for meaningful interaction between them. I wish there was a little more background on Krall, his history, and more detail on how he came to be. They flew through that stuff with blinding speed...I may need to see it again.
  15. Freejack. 1992 flick with Emilio Estevez, Rene Russo, Mick Jagger, and Anthony Hopkins. Bizare and mostly crappy, but good for a sci-fi fix. Overall it was very eclectic in terms of set design...cheap props and stunts mixed with a dystopian future that's mixed with cities and cars straight out of Willy Wonka. Considering other movies that came out in or around '92, Freejack looks like it came out in '82. The premise itself had potential but was lost in the stunts.
  16. Exactly. There are fans from all series and movies that dislike the JJ films. Hell, many people and critics dislike his movies for what they are - spectacle and style with no substance or intelligence.
  17. How would the lightsaber have gotten into space? Stop mid-air and fall upward? That rumour was idiotic. The version that ended up in the film wasn't much better...that's Abrams' "mystery box" for ya though.
  18. Very true. During the movie I actually stopped and thought to myself "there is no reason to make this film". My gripe, and the same for many others, is that Fox (and Singer too?) has been notorious for changing characters for no reason except to make a dollar. Ever since the first X-Men film, through the recent Fantastic Four, and now Apocalypse. I mean, there are three different "Angels", one of which was essentially an insect...just because they can.
  19. Just saw Apocalypse. Outside of the Weapon X parts (which was outstanding and should have been the tone of the whole film), the movie was just throwaway junk and filler. You can tell Singer is tired of the franchise and merely going through the motions. And they completely whiffed on the villian Apocalypse himself, talk about being miscast (Isaac is a great actor, just not the portrayl for this).
  20. WDCA was for syndication and repeats, basically. CBS started it all.
  21. I thought the movie was a lot of fun. Every character had a chance to shine and everything followed a logical chain of events, which is surprising for a film of this scale. My only complaint is the absurd over-use of shaky-cam. I hate that gimmick with a passion. Just as in The Winter Soldier, the shaky-cam nullified the effort and choreography that was put into the stunts and fight scenes.
  22. Super pumped. Going to Megadeth thursday night in Silver Spring then Cap the next day at 11:30 am. Let's rock.
  23. I am loving that trailer. The music is outstanding, really hinting at some dark sounds and creepiness. And I can't wait to see more of Tilda Swinton (she rocks every role she takes).
  24. I just watched Hateful 8 a couple nights ago and I thought it was really good. I loved the slow burn of the build-up. And what happened to Hangman and OB was hilarious...the look on poor OB's face. The over-use of the n-word got a little silly though. However, I haven't seen Django yet which a lot of people are saying is the superior film. A friend let me borrow it, so once the deed is done I may change my opinion on Hateful 8.
