  1. Watched Wall-E last night and finished Bicentennial Man just now. Yeah, 2015 is the year of the robot for me. Wall-E was a lot of fun, had a couple of clever parts and I caught myself laughing out loud a couple times. I'd give it an 8.5/10. Now, Bicentennial Man. Not what I expected, but in a very good, enjoyable way. By the dvd description, I fully expected it to be like A.I., where it's centered on one generation of a family. This film however, blew that away. I loved the growth of Andrew and the detail put into it by the filmmakers...very risky yet liberating for a mainstream film. I thought the CGI was very well done too, which did a solid job at extrapolating current design trends and technology. When I watch a film about robots, AI, or sentience, personally, I like to see them reach their goals of independance, freedom, and free will - Bicentennial Man achieved that. Again, a solid 8.5/10.
  2. I will definitely be seeing it. The trailer was attached to Ex Machina when I saw it, making for a nice one-two punch to the brain.2015 has been an outstanding year for sci-fi. Still have Terminator and The Martian coming out. I'm definitely getting my robot fix on with Chappie, Ex Machina, Age Of Ultron, and Terminator. Very satisfied so far.
  3. I remember people being unhappy with the gameplay and storyline, so I looked up the timeline and events of the game (I never played it). Apparently in the game, Weyland-Yutani discovers and illegally boards the Sulaco, waking up Hicks and inadvertantly activating the escape pod. It looks like my little screenplay idea still has a chance
  4. So I went back and watched the Alien 3 Assembly Cut last night, hoping to find a way or guess how they could have Ripley and Hicks still be alive. No dice, no idea how it could be pulled off and still keep 3 and Resurrection. Alien 3 burned all those bridges (quite literally with the cremations). The only things I can figure are either cram a film within the Sulaco escape pod time period or have them all be clones. If they go the escape pod route, perhaps the pod got captured by Weyland, genetic mayhem and clone-shenanigans ensue, and ultimately it's clones that escape back to the pod, crashing on Fiorina.
  5. Blomkamp's films are completely isolated, as in he has had total control throughout (writing, directing, casting). The writing has been his weakness as he didn't have an outside source to critique his work on his "commentary" trilogy (think George Lucas and the Star Wars prequels). He had the right ideas for Elysium and Chappie but his scripts needed a final tuning. And even with Blomkamp's missteps in narrative, he is still at the top of modern sci-fi films...the only other person at his level is Rian Johnson. With a studio franchise, he will now have access to experienced writers to fine-tune his draft to make it smoother and cohesive. Alien 5 is in very good hands..and much better hands than the crews that handled 3 and 4 at that.
  6. Hicks to Ripley after training her on the assault weapons: "It doesn't mean we're engaged or anything." Imo, the best love story never told.
  7. Saw Mad Max thursday night... It was glorious. Action, lovely action. The guitar guy and the power chords to lead the War Boys was insanely bad***. \m/ headbang \m/ The vast depth and attention to detail...wow. It's hard to describe, but it was like everything had a function/purpose, like you could see the inner-workings of it all. And there was a scene that left the audience dead-silent in wonder and imagination at the expanse and possibilities in the world of Mad Max...that moment was such a surreal experience, never felt anything like it. But then again, I like to immerse myself into a film, it's textures and the atmosphere it creates.
  8. Avengers: Age of Ultron. Low/mid B. The action was great, the dialogue was much smoother (not as much awkward tongue-twisting Shakespeare), and plenty of fan service. My only complaints are a couple leaps of logic to push the plot and some poor editing/cgi used in the opening scene.
  9. I saw Ex Machina this afternoon. Great movie on it's own, and especially if you enjoy robots and AI with a philosophical undercurrent and a dash of tension. Writer/director Alex Garland has knocked another one out of the park and he is now officially on my Hollywood faves list. This is his big directorial debut but check out his writing credits (jeebus): 28 Days Later Sunshine Dredd Ex Machina That is a heckuva resume. This cat knows what he is doing.
  10. Furious 7 was a lot of fun! Big action, self-aware cheesiness, and some real good jokes and gags. What surprised me the most was the audience reaction, everyone had a good time. I don't see any oscars in it like Vin said, but who cares, enjoy it. What I really like is how the franchise has transformed from teenage street racing to full-blown action spectacles.
  11. I'm at the theatre now, sitting in my seat waiting for Furious 7 to start. Let the movie season begin!
  12. Haha. I've heard great things and love their PSA lol. I had no idwa it was a chain...I thought they only had one location, I'll have to hit up Ashburn then.
  13. That Mad Max trailer is bonkers. They had the previous MM trailer attached to Chappie when I saw it last week and it was glorious on the big screen. And for those that don't know, the guy who played Toe Cutter in the first Mad Mad is back as the big villain in this. *Edit - I mean same actor in a different role.
  14. Saw Chappie last week and Automata last night. Chappie was much better than I expected after all the terrible critic reviews. It just disapoints me that Blomkamp's vision and output is taken for granted by today's audience. I firmly believe that if his social-scifi trilogy came out 15 years ago, they would all be praised. Automata had amazing texture and world-building but lacked in coherent story/plot details. The visuals and mood are a cross between Brazil and Blade Runner.
  15. For one, it cant be Wolverine at all due to FOX owning the film rights to the character. A deal similar to what Sony had to do with Marvel to save face would have to happen with FOX. There was brief speculation that it was Klaw, but this scene shows a character from the back and connects to the next image of Hawkeye going out the door.
  16. I've been on an Aliens kick after hearing the news. So pumped up. Watched Aliens friday night and Prometheus last night. Somewhat OT- with Prometheus, after watching it nearly frame-to-frame, I found that if you mentally block out the 3D mapping scenes/references and the two guys acting like illogical out-of-character idiots to become lost, it becomes a decent movie. Kind of. Some of the best cinematography/visuals ever...with the worst script ever. Back to your post, Elysium is very underrated, suffering mostly from backlash of expectation following District 9. If it had come out first instead, people would be raving about it.
  17. Please. DC has been chasing Marvel. Every studio has been chasing Marvel for that matter. The only way WB could salvage the trainwreck that was Man Of Steel was to bring in Batman...a solo Superman sequel would have been d.o.a. And they delayed Batman vs. Superman an entire year because they announced it out of desperation to start a shared universe with nothing to back it up. Even less know about Morales, who was created quite recently. The GOTG were created back in the 60's and the current incarnation six years ago.
  18. I don't see Marvel going with Morales. They finally got their crown jewel/flagship character back and can now do the character right...they have to go with Parker. Plus nearly all of the general audience has never heard of Miles Morales or knows that he exists.
  19. Just got back a little bit ago from seeing Jupiter Ascending. An odd sci-fi "epic" that desperately tried to build it's own universe...kind of overwhelming to keep track of all the characters and their motivations mentally. I would descibe the narrative as being too convoluted in all the wrong spots with blatant exposition to ease the confusion. For some reason during the film, I kept thinking that I should have been watching a Wachowski-directed epic based on the 90's cartoon Exo-Squad instead. I think it was becuase of the personal drama, strife, action within the solar system, and human/alien rights that match up nearly the same. I honestly believe the Wachowskis missed their true calling.
  20. The newest trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road. OMG...absolutely glorious mayhem and vehicular carnage. Sorry, I can't figure out how to embed.
  21. LOL yes I will. Actually, I will see it for the scene at the end of the trailer, it leaves so many questions...what if the the raptors were on motorcycles too? And had leather jackets? Do they prefer Iron Maiden or Judas Priest? Now THAT would be cool! \m/
  22. So Jurassic World is just a big-budget syfy channel movie? I'll have to rewatch the trailer...I didn't really see enough there that showed it would be better than the last two trainwrecks I'm hoping it will.
