So… just a thought experiment… But if you’re Minnesota and you want to swap with Arizona… Do you offer Justin Jefferson? Get that look off your face. Hear me out. Arizona is going to have a hard time budging off of 4, they want (and need) Marvin Harrison. I very much doubt Jefferson is going to stay with Minnesota, though if he wants to this is kind of moot. And they’re probably going to stink anyways. Do they offer one of their firsts and Justin Jefferson to move up to 4 and get McCarthy?

I don’t know that Maye definitely has the higher upside. But he has two major factors that give him an advantage over Daniels long term: 1) His size limits injury potential. Now, I want to caveat that. He’s big, but he hasn’t outgrown his frame or his body and put his body in a compromised position with too much added mass (I think Anthony Richardson is too big for his frame and part of his injury situation is due to that… despite his size). But, I acknowledge injuries can be flukes and this may not matter. 2) His age. He’s much better than Daniels was at the same age. My 100% largest issue with Maye is how often he just casually jogs into a sack. Daniels has a better pocket presence and a bit more wiggle. But availability is a concern, like it or not. I find it interesting people who were concerned with Forbes size aren’t a little bit nervous about Daniels… but at the same time, Daniels weighs like 205 pounds more than Forbes (who last I heard was weighing in at 5 lbs.) and plays in a position where he shouldn’t take much contact. In theory. I don’t know. This decision would take a lot of inside info imo, but I’m leaning Maye now. Age and availability overtake the other factors.

I don’t pay attention to anything other than sports. And quite frankly I want this forum to be better than the “internet” in general. Having said that, I’m not naive. I know my pleas and hopes are falling upon ears that have biases and add the letter “s” to random names, like Mayes. But… I’m going to continue to stick my head in the sand.

I am really struggling why propping up the guy you want means taking shots at the other guys… One poster made a great post and then took a shot at McCarthy because of bad passes in the ‘22 season… but neglects to mention that Daniels wasn’t very good in ‘22 or really any season prior to this year. There is the idea that Maye regressed, but it’s ignored he had no talent. There is the convo that Daniels only had one good season, but that one good season was absolutely absurd. People hold it against JJ that Michigan was a running team but that team had the talent to be a running team more than a passing team, and as fans we always want our coaches to do what the personnel fits, don’t we? Why is that a major strike against McCarthy? In my opinion Michigan had the best back in the class, why wouldn’t you use him and Edwards with an OL built to run the ball? Stop looking at stats. Watch plays. Watch the way these guys move. Watch their playmaking. Watch their arm under duress and with a clean pocket. Just watch. Hold them all to an equal standard. Instead of completion percentage, look at % of completable passes. Why? Because receivers can screw that stat up. Instead of interceptions, look at % of interceptable passes. Why? Because defenders drop them, too. If you evaluate this stuff honestly, you’ll find that they all have strengths and all have weaknesses in their on field games. All of them. If you evaluate physical traits the board changes. Maye sky rockets in value. Penix would also, if injuries and age weren’t such a concern (but they are, so he won’t). McCarthy and Daniels could both stand to gain some weight and Caleb is small for a high end QB prospect. I keep saying this, and I mean it… if we get Maye, Daniels or McCarthy I’ll be happy. Why? I think all four, if put in a good situation, can develop and be a great quarterback. (I also think all four, if put in a bad situation can totally **** the bed) If pass playmaking is your thing it’s Caleb and it’s not close. If speed is your thing it’s Daniels, and it’s not close. If size/athletic combo is your thing, it’s Maye. If unmolded clay who did a little of everything above well and also didn’t do a little of everything above well is your thing, it’s McCarthy. im truly good with whoever.

I do not. Maye is sloppy and has a “run into sack” issue. But he has a beast arm, great athlete, seemingly well liked and is a beast over the middle. Daniels has a good arm, has elite speed, but small frame and takes a ton of hits. McCarthy is really well rounded but not really great at anything and hasn’t operated a full fledged modern NFL offense since HS. And he wears weird outfits. I have no idea. I think it truly depends on where each guy lands.

Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, Caleb Williams and JJ McCarthy have all made the collective NFL fanbase lose their minds… It’s really an interesting look into the human psyche. Personally: I don’t care. Give me any of em. It’s about developing any of the four. They’re not all that far apart talent wise (though there is a general perceived ceiling and floor gap among them)

No, it's not. It's experience within a type of system and depth of drops, etc. He was a highly recruited prospect and he spent a lot of his time reading the field from the gun in HS. Yes, pros and college are different levels of competition. But he played at Michigan. And while they weren't a spread type of offense, he still needed to read defenses. There are adjustments to be made, but it's not new ground. It's like riding a bike and learning a new stunt versus learning to get on it and ride for the first time. "There is zero chance JJ is more pro ready than Maye and Daniels" is an odd way of saying you're bias. Zero chance? Speaking in absolutes shows a lot of bias in your post, so I'd refrain from that when posting. Your screen name doesn't help with the bias. And, again, I'm not taking shots at Maye or Daniels. They are both incredible prospects. We'd be lucky to have either as our guy. Also, McCarthy is good at throwing the football. What an odd thing to say.

There is always an element to pressure and football work. A QB can’t drop clean if there is no place to drop clean. Having said that, no. It’s a mechanical issue for Maye. And those can be fixed. But how long is anyone’s guess. Could be fixed in a month. Maybe a year. Maybe two. But as long as it’s not fixed he’s going to air mail a few passes, miss the mark and find himself running into sacks. But it will evolve. As he cleans up consistency with his overall mechanics messy pockets will be less uncomfortable. They’ll still effect his drops at times. For sure. But the more consistent he is with his mechanics the less they’ll be effected.

I disagree with this assessment. I think he’s more day one ready than Daniels or Maye, personally. In HS he ran a pure spread. In college he ran an under center run heavy scheme. He is experienced in many, many schemes. He has great command and a huddle presence. His teammates, by all accounts, would run through a wall for the guy. I’m NOT saying he has a higher upside. The truth is that I have no idea. But I also think that people are making things up to make their personal biases shine through more. I don’t have a horse in this QB race. I don’t care. I’ll take any of the four. And I’ll have nice things and negatives to each. But all four can develop. Who matters less than how.
