The guy to keep an eye on in SF is Brian Fleury. He has already taken interviews for OC gigs despite spending most of his career on the defensive side of the ball. Look at his background - he spent a stint as an exec doing football research for the Dolphins. It is pretty easy to tell he is highly intelligent

This is exactly how I feel about Quinn. To your point, if he disappoints, the honeymoon period with ownership ends. If it is Macdonald and he busts, I think a good portion of the fanbase would understand. Separately, I think the only retread who would have the support of the fanbase is Vrabel. He is coming off two losing seasons but I think the fanbase understands that, besides Tomlin, no other coach has done so much with so little underlying talent. Yes, they finished 6-11 this year but this team realistically had an equivalent or perhaps greater level of talent than they had and we finished with 4 wins.

I can’t think of a situation in the NFL where the interim coach or GM stayed in a lesser role after getting passed over for the gig. The only exception may have been Joe Vitt when he filled in for a suspended Payton but that was different. There is an awkward organizational dynamic you build keeping that guy around. So there may be a contractual way to retain him but highly unlikely they hold him hostage

He stated around the trade deadline about how Harris and Shen directed this lame duck FO to find the best offers for Young and Sweat. He called it Snyder-like and was on an island with his opinion. One of the reasons we now have the #2 pick is because we had no edge rush after the deadline. If Sweat is the caliber of player he claims he is, we very possibly pull out a win vs the Jets or Rams. Give me the #2 pick + the 2nd + the cap room vs the #4 pick + Sweat
