  1. Parcells did it with Demarcus Ware in his rookie season. After a pre-season game where Demarcus had some big plays, reporters were asking Parcells of he is excited about what he saw. Parcells made a comment like 'you guys need to put away the anointing oil on him. He has a lot of bad plays too. He has a ways to go'. Something along those lines.
  2. I think the Rams have a strategy of trying to go around the salary cap to build their team. The most recent move for Miller included a large restructure that had the Broncos paying most of the contract for Miller. That is why the Broncos got so much for a player Miller's age. It costs them a lot of draft capital, but they seem to want the salary cap room more than they want draft picks. So, all teams get the same salary cap, but it is also possible to have other teams use their salary cap to cover players that are playing the season for you.
  3. I can provide a solid recommendation for Michael Gallup as a potential #2 WR behind Terry. He has about 1950 yards in his last two seasons, but is unlikely to stay in Dallas as a #3 receiver. Some team may throw #1 wr money at him, but if not, I think he can be a solid addition to most offensive systems. He is coming off IR due to a calf injury from the first game this season, but I wouldn't expect that to be a concern in the future.
  4. Adrian Peterson has been granted an unexpected chance to extend his career. He is 450 yards behind Barry Sanders on the all time list. He steps into Henry's role in the Titans offense tonight. Any predictions on if AD will pass Sanders this season? I'm rooting for it, but I put his chances at less than 50%.
  5. Dallas was due for a game like this. I'm just glad that it was against an AFC opponent. They just got bullied at home.
  6. On the other hand... he is 8-1 in his last nine games against Dallas (including 2-0 in the playoffs). He is undefeated in the Cowboys new stadium. He has only lost once in Dallas. That was in 2007.
  7. Amazing. The first seven drives ended in six touchdowns. The only drive that wasn't a td ended at the Jets one yard line. It is difficult, though not technicaly impossible, to be any worse than they were last night.
  8. A call from the Colts-Jets game just made me smile. The only season I ever played on a real tackle football team was as a freshman in high school. I was not a good player, but I was the starting center. So, I have an affinity for centers. I love it when the refs say "False start...offense... everyone but the center". The looks you get in the huddle after that call are priceless.
  9. If you saw Aaron celebrating in the Bears game, telling the fans he owns the Bears... he feels similar to that when he plays in Dallas. He likes to laugh about owning the Cowboys stadium, as I think he is undefeated in the regular season and post season when he has played there.
  10. He just made a fg for the Chargers a few minutes ago.
  11. He threw a pick six to give the Titans the lead, but then went 75 yards for the tying td in the final minute. Most of the 75 yards was on a pi in the endzone. Also, the pick 6 was a 2 yard return for the td. A screen from their own endzone basically
  12. I was going to put this in the "**** the Cowboys" thread, but I didn't want to ruin the vibe in there. Fun fact that I just found on pro-football reference: Dallas has not had a loosing record when their week 1 starting QB played most of the season since 2004. They have had 3 loosing seasons since 2004. The leading passers in those seasons were Kitna (2010), Matt Cassel (2015), and Dalton (2020). Cowboys have never had a loosing season when Dak or Romo played most of the snaps for the year. I'm guessing that I find this fact more interesting than most on ES do, but I just had to share it.
  13. Congratulations to Terry. His game last week brought him into the top 20 all time in receiving yards for Washington. He is now at 19, a little behind Crowder (will pass Crowder this week with an average game) He also moved to #22 in catches and #25 in receiving TDS.
  14. I probably rate Kirk higher than most here. He is a good QB, and I think he has been worth his contact for the Vikings. But he does seem to have a history of messing up things that seem like they would be automatic. When he was in Washington, I remember him messing up a hail Mary at the end of the half, when he threw the ball way out of bounds through the end zone. Then, he has another hail Mary the very next game, and does the same thing. He had to be thinking "I need to keep the throw in the field of play"... then misses the field of play. There was another play in the Gruden era where he and Gruden talked about just throwing the ball away if the play was covered. Kirk saw the play was covered and quickly threw the ball to the ground. He got an intentional grounding call, because he didn't think to just throw the ball out of bounds past the line of scrimmage. Gruden had to be thinking "I didn't think I had to specify to throw it away in a manner that isn't a penalty"
  15. The clock keeps running on out of bounds plays until 5 min left in the 2nd and 4th quarters.
  16. I'm rooting for a Dolphins comeback win. Philly has the Fins pick, and it could be top 3.
  17. Anyone know the last time Washington went through a game without a punt?
  18. I love GameDay threads. Just saw a huge stream of Chiefs fans saying Mahomes needs to be benched. LOL!
  19. This game is moving fast. WFT with only 3 possessions so far.
  20. I agree that the possibility of Tua still being in the process of healing is something to consider. I remember when Troy Aikman first went into broadcasting, if a QB in the game was coming back from a lower body injury, he would make a big deal about how that can make them really struggle with velocity and deep passes. Aikman talks about breaking his leg in college, and coming back from the injury. He always had a great arm, but when he first came back, he couldn't throw with velocity at all. There was a huge adjustment trying to practice or play with a below average "arm", compared to what he was used to. He says that until he had to focus on building up leg strength above what it was pre-injury before he got his "arm" back. Could be that Tua will have a better arm once he is further away from his injury. Also very possible that this is who he is at this point.
  21. Some speculation that Denver could have interest in Tua. That may make Bridgwater available. He is a vet, but I see him as a short-term placeholder at best.
  22. I think the Spanish army used a strategy when they invaded Mexico that forced everyone to go all in. Burn the boats, so there can be no retreat. It is win or die. Helps people stay focused on winning. WFT could make the kicker and punter inactive... keep them focused on scoring TDs.
  23. I know I'm a Dallas fan, but I do try to avoid as much bias as I can when I discuss WFT players here. I like TH. Romo is my favorite player of all time, and I see parts of TH's game that remind me of Romo. He has a bit of Houdini in him, where when everything goes wrong, he finds a way to extend the play. I am a fairly casual fan, mostly watching highlights, but I don't think TH is a starting caliber player. I have no idea about Fitz's health, but if he gets healthy, I think he might be the better option.
